Hello sweet friends!  I have a card to share today but first I wanted to tell you how excited I am to be teaching at One Crazy Stamper in Toronto on May 4th, 2017.   How cool is that?  I’m rarely on the road teaching, but I feel so blessed to be getting out.  We’ll be creating an elegant yearly journal gift set with my new Filigree Booklet/Mini Card Die and just peek at the video that was made using the die —> HERE.  This is one of my personal favorites and I’ve designed additional inserts and accessories to go along with this die – coming later this year.  At any rate, I hope so much to meet some of my Canadian friends and northern US friends are welcome to drive in too.  For more info pop over to the OCS website and you can see the project. :-) Now on to my card for today…

My project today is one that created to display in the UK.  Typically their cards are much larger than ours but I used it as an excuse to make a card I would use for a ”grand” occasion – like an big anniversary or something where you really want the card to stand out over the other cards you send.   More importantly, the size of this card matches the scale of this grand border I used – Spellbinders Graceful Floral Lace.  At 8.5″x 8.5″ I’ve decided it will either reach its destination in a regular bubble wrap envelope or I’ll make a special envelope with my Envelope Punch Board.  This is a two color, two die card made using Spellbinders Graceful Frame Maker and the Spellbinders Graceful Floral Lace.  I’ll give you a hint the cutting of the floral frame was done the same way I did in constructing a scrapbook page frame in this technique video at the 5 minute mark.  With this technique I used the entire length and width of the die cut.    Today I opted for a sweet sentiment from Quietfire DesignFollow Your Dreams.

    Hello Becca,
Congrats to you on teaching in Canada, those folks are so lucky, sure wish I could take one of your classes but Canada is too far from Florida. Lol might as well be Australia like NOELENE said.
Now that I am finally done with my thirty-two, that’s right 32 cards for the 2 card swaps at Scrapbook Expo, I must get my Becca dies out and the frame maker and try them. Only had for a little over 2 months so now is the time.
This is such a georgous card, as are all your creations. Have a Blessed Easter, my friend.

I’m excited to hear about new dies coming from you, Becca. I love the variety that can be created using your Border Collection and will definitely be purchasing your new dies. This card is lovely and I love the size I know A2 cards are more common here in the US but I’ve always preferred larger cards so this appeals to me a lot. I think a larger card makes a bigger statement and allows more creative space.

Friendship Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken Using Quietfire Design - I Don
Sweet Peeps, Happy Friday.  I have to say that just as much as giving a card on Fridays and reading your heartfelt sharing, I adore Fridays for many reasons.  This day gives me pause to analyze the week, complete with my shortcomings and the triumphs I experience.  This week is no different, I fell short in so many ways but also I had a personal triumph that makes me thankful.  This year I’ve been doing my inner homework, cleaning up some emotional tarnish that I thought could not be recovered from.  To my amazement, once through the dirt and sour deposits that threaten, I find the original layer is still shiny and that gives me great hope!  Creating is such a catalyst for soul searching and giving – I hope you use it to your sweet advantage.   In that vain, today’s card was created to give away for Day of Giving Friday – I hope it brightens someones day.  (By the way yes, I have a backlog of cards to send out – no worries – they will come, I promise!)

Today I built my card on a base that is 5-1/2″x 7-1/2″.  The die I choose is another that has sadly hit the Spellbinders discontinue list and  I don’t think I ever had the chance to share a public card – although I’ve seen stunning cards on the internet made with this one – it’s called Spellbinders Regal Allure.  The quantities of this die set are quite limited and no more will be manufactured – I promised I’d tell you :-)

Friendship Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken Using Quietfire Design - I Don
So I took an unconventional approach to this die and split it in half horizontally, scored and folded it.  I’m a little bit on a dimension kick so I wanted to create a valance above and below that brings your eye to the center.  To decorate those, I used the detail piece in the set to add a flourish to the flaps I created from the Regal Allure die.  For my sentiment I cut the banner from Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags and smudged it with Ranger Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink before taking the paper out of the die – by default that gives the banner a nice border.  Then I finished up by stamping a sentiment from Quietfire Design – it’s part of a double sentiment but I simply used You are the Best!

Friendship Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken Using Quietfire Design - I Don
For new readers, every Friday it’s my pleasure to give away a card.   The card goes to a randomly picked reader (worldwide) who leaves a comment in our conversation. Want to know more about Day of Giving, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11. You can check the list of winners HERE!   For your comment: What do you consider to be your greatest weakness?

I love this card Becca! Sorry to hear spellbinders is discontinuing this and many other dies. My budget cannot keep up so know I will miss quite a few. My greatest weakness is not being able to figure out how to make myself a priority and still do for the others in my life. I am continually “chastised” for putting myself in last place, especially since I have some serious health concerns right now–just not in my nature or maybe I am lazy–either way I need to figure it out! Thanks for all your inspiration! I love to “case” your work!ReplyCancel

Wow, Becca! What an awesome testimony that God is helping you through something you thought couldn’t be fixed. Such an encouragement.

What a lovely card. I love your creative use of the die cut. The soft colors on this card really speak to me. My greatest weakness is impatience both with myself and my husband. He’s a very methodical thinker and is slow to make decisions. He really likes to think things through and I’m the exact opposite but I’ve learned that trying to speed him up just doesn’t work. I am learning to give him time to work things out at his own pace. So happy to have found your blog. You do beautiful work.ReplyCancel

  • Karen M. RothApril 7, 2017 - 5:09 pm

Oh My! This card is so lovely and very Springy :D I love it so much.

My greatest weakness is that after my truck wreck that did kill me I am unable to do even simple math in my head. I require a printable form to keep track and our Printer ran out of ink and six months later it still has no ink. This has caused me to put us into a Deep Debt that we can never repay. Right now I have three Credit Cards that have gone to Collections. I had been trying to get my Website and Boutique up and running and well, then I ended up very ill and the bills just kept adding up and now I have a Domain Name paid for the next ten years but will not have my Professino0nal Website Design that I love so much. Because of this I continue to watch each Dream I ever had fall to the ground in shattered pieces along with my heart…..ReplyCancel

      Dear Karen,
Just wanted you to know that someone is praying for a miracle for you. That the shattered pieces of your heart and dreams are used to create something precious and beautiful. God bless you.ReplyCancel

  • RachelApril 7, 2017 - 5:13 pm

Beautiful card Becca you are so talented. You actually inspire me when I am feeling blank when it comes to creating. But your sweet thoughts of what you share whether is good or bad also helps as I know that others are having some questionable thoughts. I think my biggest weakness is time. I feel that time just goes by so fast and I need to slow down and enjoy the good that God provides. Enjoy sometimes the tears and know that those tears will dry and that for that brief moment I was weak but He was with me. More time to pray and thank Him for his gifts of family, friends good health and love.ReplyCancel

I’d like to say that doubt is my biggest weakness but when I really think about it I think that arrogance is really my biggest weakness. Most of the time I don’t even realize I’m doing it. Go figure. It’s usually not until after the fact that I may perceive any arrogance on my part.ReplyCancel

    Happy Friday, dear Becca,
Your post today is a shining example of why I so appreciate who you are and how you nurture this community. Card making is a kind of meditation in my life and it creates a space for peace and insight. When I read your words and the comments from others, it does invite me to sit with the questions and listen to what comes up. There is such a sense of like mindedness, that sometimes I read my very thoughts coming from another’s words. Do you hear our cheers and feel our hugs of support in your newfound hope?

Weakness? Over commitment! You mean, I can’t do everything??? No dear, you cannot. Isn’t it obvious? (Well, yes it is!)

Such a lovely card. That pale pink detail piece really caught my eye. That, and the lovely piece of lace peeking out from under the sentiment!
    Love and blessings,
    SandyReplyCancel

My weakness, and it is a BIG one, is buying so many Spellbinders, scrapbook paper and other craft items. Thanks to you for sharing your cards each week so I am using more of my things. • SuzzieQApril 7, 2017 - 7:49 pm

Well, well, let’s see. I have many issues that need work. But currently my greatest weakness is “procrastination” in getting my house work done and straightening out the clutter that built up while my husband was so ill and there was no time, or energy, for anything but taking care of him. Now all I want to do is make cards. I have been procrastinating on my house work for so long now, it seems I don’t care wheither I do it or not. I know, I must change my attitude – SOON. I can not continue this way. I used to be a neat freek and I was so well organized. Now where did that girl go?ReplyCancel

Your card is absolutely lovely! There is an exquisite feel to it that is so elegant. I am seriously considering adding this die to my collection.

My greatest weakness is putting myself last and struggling to ask for help. This leaves me feeling isolated and alone too much of the time. I guess admitting that is a step toward change. Thank you for thought provoking questions!ReplyCancel

I consider my greatest weakness to be collecting craft supplies! I tend to buy much more then I have time to use, thereby taking up more room than I have. I am doing something about it though. I have undertaken the job of “clearing out” and letting go. It’s hard, but I’m getting there. It will always be a constant struggle, because I love creating.

I love your cards Becca. They are so pleasing to the eye, and very comforting to look at! Thank you for sharing your God given gift.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card Becca. I love that you have been dealing with those inward issues that often affect how we live our lives. My greatest weakness, or at the moment, the one I am working on, is comparing myself to others, and finding myself lacking. In teaching the book of John this year, one of the greatest lessons was seeing that we all have different gifts, talents and abilities, but all for the common good. So I am learning to be content ??ReplyCancel

You´ve just done it again here Becca, and made the most gorgeous card. It is sooo beautiful and would definitely light up anybodys day to recieve a card like this, that´s for sure.
My biggest weakness?? That must be, that I just can´t say no, when people ask me for help, even I know, it´ll cost me a lot afterwards, as my health just can´t keep on anymore, and my back gets worser and worser, so sometimes I really wish, I would learn to say no, as people don´t seem to see it, so I can only blame myself ofcause.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, This is a stunningly elegant card, shabby chic and beautiful.
My weakness is that I am too sensitive and too emotional, I sometimes wish that I could keep my emotions in check, I cry far too easily and get emotional far too quickly, if I feel something it shows in my face.

Another very pretty “Becca card”! What a shame that this die is retiring. Us international folks, who have to deal with high exchange rates, haven’t even had a chance to get this one! I have so many weaknesses that I am aware of, but I guess one that tops the list at this stage of my life is a lack of patience.ReplyCancel

  • Anne(UK)April 8, 2017 - 4:19 pm

I love the way you have cut and made 2 sections to frame your card! It certainly does draw the eye into the centre!
Your question made me think of Dorcas Lane in ‘Lark Rise to Candleford’. The first episode I watched had Dorcas saying – ‘Cake is my one weakness!’, but the more episodes I watched, the more I heard Dorcas saying that other things were her ‘one weakness’. I’m much like Dorcas in that I might want to believe that ‘cake is my one weakness’, but in truth, I have many! It is a wonderful series and at the end, she tells Gabriel that she has many weaknesses and we love her all the more for her confession!

I have so many things that could use some work on ….but if I could only change one thing it would be to stop having such a critical personality. I am a perfectionist in so many things and my entire family is not. I am in the process now, with many prayers, learning to just keep my mouth closed and move on. I tell you, I have the worst time with this . I am not where I need to be but I thank God I am not where I used to be. This is defiantly a work in progress. It’s a wonder The Lord doesn’t loose His patience with me. Hugs, Denice with a “c”ReplyCancel

Happy April Fools!    So today I’m blogging over on the Spellbinders Blog, no kidding!!  Over there I’m showing you step-by-step how to bring beauty to edge of your cards.  It’s one of the ways I use borders to enhance a card and it rests safely in my tool box of card tricks.  Technically when I’m designing a card I start by thinking about the edge or edges and then move my focus to the center and what I’m trying to highlight.  Here’s the link over to my post – HERE – you’ll need to see what I’m talking about for my post today to make sense.  So, pop over so you can get a look at the technique I used and then come back so I can tell you about my cards today.  I’m answering comments and questions over there as well, so sound out about which style you like best :-)

Okay, you’re back . . . lets talk about edges so you know which one works for you best.

Today I decided to turn my original thinking on it’s edge :-)  There’s more than one way to get this look and I definitely think every orientation has a lovely look!  For my first card, it’s just like the card on the Spellbinder Blog, except turned on its side with a left hand fold.  I rarely make side fold cards but I’ll tell you, it’s a very easy way to get this look.  For my card I’ve used Spellbinders Graceful Damask Border and the beautiful oval I’ve used to highlight my sentiment is Spellbinders Oval Regalia (I used Spellbinders Classic Ovals SM  to cut the aperture).

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Graceful Damask Border and Spellbinders Oval Majesty - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
For my second card, I used the Hinge Technique I created.  Simply put, you cut your die, with die hanging over a folded edge a tiny bit.  The folded edge you use to cut over only needs to be 3/8″ to 1/2″ – you only need enough to as a basis to glue a layer to and hold it with some stability.  So that’s exactly what I did – for the back of the card I cut one border over the fold the cut the second border along the bottom (just as is shown step-by-step in my post on the Spellbinders Blog).  For the front of the card I cut at the top of the paper and then again at the bottom of the paper.  To put the card together I glued the front piece to the back piece that has the tiny flap facing toward the front.  For my card I’ve used Spellbinders Graceful Damask Border and the lovely oval I’ve used to frame my sentiment is Spellbinders Oval Majesty (I used Spellbinders Classic Ovals SM  to cut the aperture).

As a designer, I take delight in giving you more than one way to use my designs.  I hope you will add these two border orientations to your repertoire so that you can stretch your choices into a couple of beautiful options.

Hi Becca, what a beautiful card. Simple and elegant. I was wondering one thing. You state to cut both pieces of the card base 7 x 5 and score 1 inch down one 7 x 5 piece.. The picture shows the 2 card bases different sizes. Is this incorrect? I’m anxious to get started.ReplyCancel
