Hello y’all!  Spring really faked us out, hunh?  No worries, one thing I know for sure is that it is coming – I have good authority on that!  I’m curled up today with my hot coffee in my toasty sweats, looking outside and eagerly waiting for that day to come.  Even though it’s nippy outside, inside my desk is full!

Today I’m sharing an easy card.  I used one die and I used two colors of paper.  All I did was cut the die, add some matting layers and add a sentiment, a bow and pearls.  That’s it!!  So often I get comments that say something like I wish I could make that.  My whole point today is that you can and I want to encourage you to do it!

So on to my card for today.  This is a 6-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ layered card – I used Spellbinders Fleur De Square using the large square for my bottom latter and turning the smaller medium square on point for some dramatic contract.   Oops, I fibbed, I pulled in another die for the sentiment – I used Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants.  Lol, there’s not much else to say except that this die is absolutely gorgeous – how easy it was to work with and I love making a card in less than an hour!!

For new readers, every Friday it’s my pleasure to give away a card.   The card goes to a randomly picked reader (worldwide) who leaves a comment in our conversation. Want to know more about Day of Giving, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11. You can check the list of winners HERE!

This is going to need an explanation – and the question this week is a tough one.  Don’t answer if you don’t want but I think about these things.  A sweet friend of mine passed away this week.  I’ve been travelling quite a bit and have been so unbelievably busy lately that I didn’t have the chance to talk to her since December.  I didn’t even know how sick she was.  Of course, in retrospect I regret that I was so busy.  I can’t tell you now much she has been on my mind this week.  I do wish I had had an opportunity to visit her in person.  Had I visited, I know I would have gotten the sense of the gravity of her illness.  I’m full of prayer for my friend and at peace that she didn’t have an extended time of suffering.  For your comment: What would you say to your friend if you knew you wouldn’t see him or her again?

Beautiful card Becca – very ELEGANT!
Actually an easy question for me to answer – I would tell my treasured friend that ‘I LOVE YOU’! Simple statement, but I know we do not say it enough to those we care about. If I could see the person face to face, I would add a great big HUG! Hugs have meant a lot to me in the recent home going of my husband….even people who could not utter a word to me said it all in a hug to show they cared.
Paper Hugs…real ones too if I could come across the miles Becca!

Becca: I think you are long overdue to make another Becca bit about your bows. This bow is amazing with the middle loop larger than the outer loops-how did you do that?. I have your bow maker and my bows don’t look like that. Please, please, please! I love your bows and they are such a focal point to your cards.ReplyCancel

If I could see them in person, in this life- I would tell my friend, “I love you!” And then ask them how is their relationship with God. Knowing we are loved by God, and loved by our family and friends are the most important things in life.
I love your card. This one is such a beauty!ReplyCancel

After caring for four family members during terminal illnesses and having lost so many family members and friends of various ages over the years, I’ve learned to make each good-bye like it may be the last. There is no time like the present to let our loved ones know how we feel! So sorry, Becca, for the loss of your friend. You are such a thoughtful caring person, I am sure your friend knew how you felt.ReplyCancel

A good friend of my husbands passed a week ago after repeated surgeries on his intestines. It was tragic because his mind was 100% there. We knew he had no hope but it was sad. I knew him for close to 20 years. A little crazy, but a good man with a good heart, and very happy. It’s not so much what I/we would have said, but I wish we would have visited him more when he was hopping around to the many hospitals he was in. Hospitals can be so boring. I feel really bad we didn’t go see him more often than we did the past 5 months.ReplyCancel

  • Christine MillerMarch 17, 2017 - 1:06 pm

So very sorry for your heart-breaking circumstances, Becca. Hopefully my answer will not seem too simple for such a serious question. My first thought is to say, “I love you.” Even more, I would want to say, “Thank you.” I think love is clearly understood between close friends, but there are innumerable things to be thankful for: forgiveness, openness, wisdom, patience, laughter, and shared experiences no one else truly understands.ReplyCancel

  • Wanda ThomasMarch 17, 2017 - 1:07 pm

It goes without saying that the card is beautiful and one I could try easily.
A good friendship is based on years, not days. The lifetime of friendship that you had does not get passed over because of a few days/months that you were busy. And a true friend realizes that. What they want most when they are on a short timeline is to be treated normally. Many don’t want those “last time” conversations; they want death to be as normal as their life was. So don’t feel badly. If she wanted something other than that, she would have reached out. What you do for a friend all the time is much more important than what you didn’t do one time. Give yourself a pass on that one.ReplyCancel

    Dear Becca,
I first want to extend my condolences for the loss of your friend – my heart goes out to you. It’s a shock to receive news like this. When you think of her with the love and appreciation you have for her, that communication transcends the boundaries of time and space. Love never dies.

Having this experience is a reminder to let our loved ones know how much they mean to us every chance we get. It’s an illusion that we ever know how much time we have with others.Communicating love and gratitude to the people in your live is something you do sooooo well!

Watching the video on your new dies made me excited to see all your new creations. I loved, loved, loved the re-positioning of the rectangular dies for custom applications. In your characteristic style, the possibilities are endless!
    Love & blessings dear Becca,

    Hi Becca,
    |Such a wonderful and fun card (easy peasy) today. Happy St. Patty’s Day! One of the new dies that is on my list.
I would tell my friend that I loved him or her and would see them again one day! Meaning of course, in heaven! This happened to me just a couple of weeks ago. I met this fellow in the post office and as his had was bandaged, I asked what happened. Said he had a skin cancer removed and went on telling me the whole story. Said they wanted to cut some more on him but didn’t think he was going to do it. Within 2 weeks he was gone, So Sad!! Only in his early 60’s.
Hope you have a great weekend and slow down just a little and smell the roses, girlfriend.
    HUGS

  • Denice with a "c"March 17, 2017 - 3:34 pm

First of all, I wanted to tell you how thrilled I was to win one of your beautiful cards last month. I haven’t received it yet but I patiently wait as I know you are always so busy and I don’t want you to feel rushed at all. What a wonderful blessing you are to so many. Now , as for the question of what to tell someone you will never see again here in this present earth …… I have been faced with this situation quite a few times in my life. Always, I felt uncomfortable to admit to them that they were dying and because of this I didn’t address the most important issue at hand…. Have You Accepted Jesus as Your Savior ? Now, I have matured enough to know that this is the last chance they might have to hear about God’s promise and the fact that He said , there is only one way to The Father, Jesus. When my mom was dying I knew she was saved and only her body was lingering. As she was breathing her last breaths, I held her hand and told her it was okay to let go …. we would miss her but it was okay, we would be alright . I believe she passed away peacefully and that she is at rest now. I look forward to seeing her again someday. I believe if we have a chance in life to spread God’s Word and we don’t, we are making a big mistake. I look at death differently now and I look at this short time on this earth differently. This earthly life is short and will soon be over, even a hundred years that you might have goes by so fast. I pray with all my heart that anyone reading this , if you haven’t accepted Jesus as your personal savior, please , please, do so now. God bless…Denice with a ” c”.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
I always love your cards with gold & white. Always gorgeous!
I only discovered your new collection last week. I definitely have them on my wish list.
My condolences on the loss of your friend. Don’t feel bad about not getting to see her.We are all guilty of letting life get in the way. I am sure she knew how much of a busy lady you were & would not want you to feel bad about not seeing her, but rather remember the good times you shared together instead.
The answer to your question is, I probably wouldn’t say much but that I loved them & give a huge hug. That is what I did with my grandmother that I visited many years ago overseas. I was blessed to meet her twice & never knew if I would see her again when we left. Sadly I wasn’t blessed with all the wonderful technology of today to be able to keep in regular contact like skype.
Take care, Sending hugs & prayers.

I experienced something similar when my mom died suddenly. I was so busy on the last Saturday I spoke to her that I didn’t take the time to really appreciate her call. I never knew it would be the last conversation we’d have on earth. Wish I’d had one more chance to tell her how much I loved and appreciated her. Hi Becca
It is so hard to lose a loved one and no matter how much we have loved, cared for or supported them, we seem to have a sense of guilt that we haven’t done enough or been there for them at their point of need. Your candid post has touched a nerve and I’m sure that your gentle reminder will bear fruit amongst your followers. Thank you so much for sharing – a difficult thing when carrying a burden of loss. I pray that you will find peace. After reading your post I will try to make sure that in future I don’t part from family or friends without saying something loving and uplifting. Our Church house group is following the 40 acts of kindness during Lent and there have been several nudges about appreciating others and showing that appreciation. I will try to do better.
Your card is stunning! Ivory and gold make such an elegant combination.

I was so lucky to have had the chance to speak my heart to a very close friend the night before she passed. She was in a morphine haze and had not been awake or speaking for several days. I thanked her and the Father for coming in to my life. We had gone to the same church and had broken in to small groups that met at peoples’ homes. She was in another group, along with her husband. Something told them to switch groups. That was the beginning of a new and very special relationship. When I told her how thankful I was that they switched groups and that I consider that one of the best days of my life, she moved her arms and I believe she tried to say something. I am so glad that I was moved to visit that day.ReplyCancel

I see my friends once a fortnight, different friends on different days, and when leaving I always kiss, hug and tell them that they mean a lot to me. One of my friends I’ve known since 1958 when we worked together and we have gone through life together, she’s extra special and I make sure she knows it.

A beautiful and elegant card today, Becca. The bow is lovely and really finishes your card.

I would tell a friend how blessed I was to be their friend and that I love them. I would tell them that I will cherish our memories and will not forget the friendship we shared. I would also try to share a memory that would bring a smile to both of our hearts. I would also share the love of JESUS with them and encourage them to be sure their heart was right with GodReplyCancel

Sooo sorry for your loss Becca. I actually had a very dear friend passing from terminal illness here back in January, and even we all knew, she was sick, we had no idea, it was this close. She spent Christmas eve and New Years Eve til late with her entire familky and tuesday evening the 2nd she went in peace. I´ve known her in almost 40 years since our very first youth, and we had our kids together and she and her husbond visited us here sunday before christmas, and she seemed better than ever, so it was a chock, and I know exactly how you feel, as I´ve been through it all myself here lately and kept asking, if I could´ve done more. But we often talked about her illness, and I told her directly,. that I jnew I couldn´t say or do anything, that would make things easier or better, but she should know, I would be there for her at any time of the day or night, if she needed me to talk to, and that I loved her dearly and would miss her terribly, when it was time, and we became really good huggers, that´s for sure. We always gave a hug, both when we met and when we left, every single time.
But at least none of our friends are in anymore pains now, and that comforts me a little.
Your card is as always very very beautiful Becca and I love your gorgeous work.ReplyCancel

Another beautiful one, lady! I’d tell my friend how much their friendship has meant to me. I’d thank them for being such a godsend in my life, and how their presence had impacted my life. Then we would reminisce about some good times we had shared. Laughing together is always good. A person’s laugh is something I’ve always cherished. I wish I had recordings of those closest I’ve lost.ReplyCancel

So sorry for the loss of your dear friend. Please remember all the blessings of having her in your life, rather than your dismay.
We are dealing with knowing my hubby’s time here on earth is very limited, Knowing we are in others prayers is the very best blessing of all. Please let her loved ones hear from you with a special moment the two of you shared, for their hurting hearts (and yours).
And to answer your thought…how about ‘see you with our Lord’, hugs
With much respect and enjoyment of your creations,

This tradegy did happen to me as I lost my teacher friend of 40 years. She was told that she had 4 weeks to live and I visited her everyday as she grew weaker and weaker. I told her that she would always be in my heart . I shared with her that she was my role model in life regarding how to treat one another. She was an inspiration to everyone that she encountered. I was so blessed to have her in my life and if I encounter a bad situation I always think what would Marj would say and do. Hello sweet friends!  Truly, grace be with you . . . this is a stamp that has been sitting on the counter for some time.   I’ve always thought this was a lovely wish and a sweet thing to say to someone, so I’m saying it to you all.  I’m sharing a card with that sentiment today for Day of Giving Friday.  I’ve just finished a deadline that I’ve been working on for some time so today finds me optimistically looking forward to the days to come.  The days have been so full of ‘have to do’s’ that maybe, just maybe in the next week or two, I’ll be able to squeeze in a ‘want to do’.  I hope you do that too!  ‘Me’ time always makes you tick better.

So on to my card for today.  This is a 5.5″ x 7.5″ layered card – I used Spellbinders Graceful Brackets for the petite scallops in the cream for a pop of color at the top of the card.  Next I layered on Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants in cream – the largest one, cut in half.  Next I layered on the second largest Arched Swallowtail Pennant (kraft colored) and then glued down  Spellbinders Oval Ironwork (in pink) on top.  Then lastly three layers of the third largest Arched Swallowtail Pennant.  I split one of the cream Pennants in half vertically and spread so that I would get a mat layer and then I did the same thing horizontally for a mat layer.  The last pennant (kraft colored) sits on top and is the place I put that lovely sentiment.

Beautiful! I would love to win one of your Cards!
On Ash Wednesday I decided to follow a posting I read on Facebook and began puting an item a day in a box to take to Angel View. I got so into doing this that I had my closet cleaned and a box filled in three days! I then began filling a box with craft items that I haven’t used in a year. This is more difficult to do than giving away my clothes! The papers are so pretty and the tools are ones that I bought or I wouldn’t have them. It’s hard to be honest and admit that if I haven’t used it in the last year, I won’t be using it.ReplyCancel

    Beautiful Card.

I have a Painting that just says, “Grace”. I have had to learn to give Grace to myself which is very hard for me to do, but it is so easy to give to others. I have come to find out that God can still use me no matter what my conditions are or finances, or even circumstances I am in.

For my time, it is all about the Crafts. If I am not able to craft I am in a foul mood and my depression returns in full effect. I am finding more Joy in Giving than Receiving because in the giving you end up receiving anyway :). These are the riches I store up.ReplyCancel

    Hi, Becca,
What a beautiful card! This is one that takes some time to savor because there is so much going on.
I know I witness acts of kindness many times a day, but the one that came immediately to mind is this: My office is next door to a vet and my window overlooks the parking lot. An older couple came with a dog but I noticed they were leaving without it. The woman was sitting in the car and I saw her husband approaching with the vet. The vet squatted next to the car to be at eye level and touched her in consolation. This is a busy, busy doctor and so taking this time with her really touched me.
No matter how busy you are, dear friend, you take the time to reach out to all of us. I feel touched by your grace and it is so appreciated.
    Love and blessings, SandyReplyCancel

A beautiful card. You seem to come up with so many wonderful cardmaking ideas. I have two acts of kindness that has always stuck with me. When I taught pre-k one of the little girls was very upset and could not stop crying. Her twin came over and offered her thumb for her sister to suck on. The second act of kindness was also in my pre-k class. We had a special needs child in our class and we said nothing to the other 21 children about him. The children have a good sense about situations. No matter if we were changing rooms, going out or a fire drill all 21 children from day one always made sure there was someone to help and care for him. It was so sweet.ReplyCancel

Grace be with you, too, dear Becca. Lovely card and lovely sentiment. This past Christmas I was a witness to an inspiring act of kindness while in the check-out line at a big box store. I was behind a mother pushing a cart. She had a toddler in the child seat and a young child that was hanging onto the front of the cart. Both children were past their nap time. There were groceries in the main cart. After the checker rang-up the contents of the cart, the mother started searching for her money to pay. The checker told the mother that her groceries had been paid for by the man who had checked out before her wishing her and her family a Merry Christmas. This mother could hardly speak and tears quickly ran down her cheeks. What a beautiful gesture this man made to help this family. I must remember to do the same.ReplyCancel

    Lovely card!
I went to a big sale recently at a stamp store that is about 90 minutes from my house. The store is closing and things were marked down to 50% off. I made my selections and paid, after putting a few back on the shelf that I knew I didn’t really need! A couple of days later, I was regretting putting a die back that I really liked. I emailed a friend who lives close to the store and asked her if she had a chance to swing by the store and see if the die was still available. She not only went and picked up the die for me, she stood in a long line to pay for it… for over an hour! And the die she got for me was the only item she was getting that day!ReplyCancel

What a beautiful sentiment for your lovely card today.

I’ve visited the US from the UK a few times in the last ten years or so. On my first visit I was attending a Red Hat Society convention in Wichita Falls, Texas when I became so ill with the ‘Texas Crud’ that I was taken into hospital there. The convention came to me in hospital, nearly everyone came to visit. After my stay in hospital a very special lady came to collect me from over 100 miles away and I stayed with her until I was passed as fit to fly. I had only known her a few days before this and her kindness to me in opening up her home and caring for me will stay with me forever. This card would be for her.

You are such a treasure! May grace be with you too!
Not something I witnessed, but a story about my aunt when she was a little girl that confirmed my view of what a special person she was. My aunt was 6, it was her first sports day and she was a very good runner. As she neared the finishing tape well ahead of the other children, she turned, stopped dead in her tracks and then ran back to hold hands with the little girl who was bringing up the rear. They crossed the finishing line together :o) I lost her 2 years ago and I think of that story every time I think of her!

What a wonderful card here again Becca, it’s really beautiful.
An episode of random kindness, I can mention one, that really hit my heart, was a fellow crafter friend fron Norway, who made christnascards for all the elzers on a home in hef hometown, because she knew, that none of them had any relatives, who came by there, anf for easter she made eastercards and eggs for them too, and the joy we could see in all their eyes on the pictures were awesome. That was really a wonderful thibg to do, and she is doing it again this year.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
saying hello a little late this week. This card is cute!
I received your new dies in the (happy) mail last week. They look so gorgeous, I can’t wait to make “me time” to get to play with them! Wow I do not know how I missed it, but I never saw your Vintage Elegance collection. They look stunning as well. Looks like I have to go shopping again ;)
My inspiring act of kindness has to be from my 9 yr old daughter this week.
We were out last Saturday & she happened to find a $20 note on the ground. As there was nobody about who may be able to claim it I told her she may keep it. She asked me if she was able to do whatever she wanted with it or spend it on whatever she wished. I told her that was ok. (I always tried to teach my kids with birthday money etc to spend a little & save the rest).
In Australia during Lent season we get little money boxes from church (project compassion) to donate money from sacrifices we have made during easter Lent season eg:place money in box for that cup of coffee we gave up.
My inspiring act of kindness was when I saw her place the whole amount when we got home into the money box. Her words were, “I do not need to buy anything & I have enough things I want. Somebody else needs this more than me!”
I have to say it melted my heart! Being a parent in this day & age can test you, but at least I now know I have done something right!
    Have a lovely week xReplyCancel

So on to my card for today.  Every once in a while I love a tall card (this one is 8.5″ tall by 4″ wide) – they are so different and really it is so easy to fill up the space, because of the narrowness.  Today I’m highlighting one of my new borders Graceful Floral Lace.  It takes up a lot of real estate on the card and that’s exactly what I wanted.  I simply cut two pieces, backed them with silver foil and adhered the pairing to the top and to the bottom   I stamped my sentiment from Quietfire Design onto vellum paper with Versafine Ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The sentiment is cut with Spellbinders Classic Ovals SM and framed with Spellbinders Floral Oval.  The tiny filigree piece on the bottom is Spellbinders Corners and Accents One.

For your comment: I’m so loving the fact that spring is here!  What’s your favorite part of spring?

What a beautiful card! I love the sentiment..I have never heard it before.

The two things that are my favorite things about Spring are :

All the Flowers, trees, and shrubs starting to bloom with color after such a dreary season ( I live in the PNW). The biggest one of all–is that my Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) lifts and I start to have energy again, to a point, considering all my health issues :) .ReplyCancel

I have the new dies except for the words so should be able to do that card! It is awesome.
I love spring because I know it will be awhile before the severe heat gets here in beautiful Florida and we actually live in a “near Paradise!”
Have a good weekend and look forward to another card next week. My hubby said “My you sure are engrossed”. I said, Yeah, it’s Becca Friday, honey!! lol

I love the freshness of Spring, the flowers blooming, everything turning green! The weather is perfect and it feels like everything is new!

Your card today is so elegant and I am so impressed by the fact that you used a die from your border collection to create this more narrow card. I also love your HUGS card on Spellbinders website and the tutorial. I always benefit from your tutorials and videos so I appreciate the time you spend on these things for us. I wasn’t quite sure how to use the Hugs die so I really appreciate seeing you use it.

Thank you so much for being an inspiration in so many ways, not just card making but your faith and commitment to your craft.ReplyCancel

This is a beautiful card! I love the tall dimension as well. I have lots of standard sized envelopes that I never use. Long and skinny is a great change of pace. And I love the lace design – it’s on my wish list! Very pretty to layer on the silver. Thanks, Becca!
Oh – for my comment – spring is not here yet. I think we are expecting snow this week!! Spring is my least favorite season. The best part about it is that summer is on the way!ReplyCancel

  • LoisMarch 3, 2017 - 5:35 pm

The best about spring is watching the bulbs sending up the green leaves. We have a Lenten rose that is blooming (new hampshire) and still was blooming after 16 inches of snow covered it. Happy Spring and thanks for the beautiful cards.ReplyCancel

Your card is so lovely. I have the Graceful Floral Lace die that you designed for Spellbinders. I am pleased to see the Spellbinders Corners and Accents One. I could not visulize how beautiful and petite this die is from the package photo. Springtime, oh Springtime — when will you arrive? So glad you are enjoying Spring. For me, I have snow on the ground here that arrived last night and this morning. I have a few daffodils that popped their joyful heads out and shined with sunshine yellow to excite me that Spring may not be too far away. My favorite part of Spring has to be that the earth comes back to life and renews itself giving hope to all. And then there are those gorgeous flowers and their fragrance. Spring is definitely my favortite time of the year.ReplyCancel

What a stunning card Becca. Absolutely love the colors!!
I love flowers so much so they are a big part of spring, but the green grass and trees are so beautiful. After living all my life in California, I cherish the four seasons we now have in Indiana. You never need to water your lawn here and it stays green!!! Many of my cards have flowers… and my other favorite… butterflies!

P.S. I’ve left my address in your contact email as a winner, but I don’t see the notation that you received my address. Where should I be sending my mailing address?

So Beccalicios !!! Love, love, love this card. It has most of your hallmarks (bow, pearls, etc.) What I love about spring is the actual ‘feeling’ of renewal. I attribute that to God’s design – the earth’s proximity to the sun. He’s so good!!!ReplyCancel

Oh Becca! This is beyond gorgeous! I just love it! Your card on the Spellbinders site is beautiful too. The frame maker is on my wish list!
Spring is certainly on its way. My favourite part is to go out in the garden these lighter evenings, seeing the new shoots and finding those plants which have made it through the winter and are just beginning to wake again. The snowdrops showed a few weeks ago, the daffodils began to appear last week and blossom is out on the cherry plum trees. Just hope we don’t have a cold snap here in the UK to set things on their heels!
