 
Hello sweet friends! I’m popping in today with a new card and simply to say hi. I’m ticking along in the background, while savoring some of the good weather that is coming my way. Today I’m using a color I don’t often use and I’ve reached for a border that has been in my stash for quite some some. If you have or are curious about the Spellbinders Graceful Frame Maker, the border that I’ve used here practically cuts itself. I have a video that shows how the tool works – HERE. I’m using Spellbinders Renaissance Border One. Since this border cuts its own straight edge, that means you don’t have to trim it and makes it extra easy for use with the Frame Maker.
This card is 6.5″x 6.5″and goes together so, so easily. I simply cut my frame with the 6″x 6″ Frame Maker and layered it with two frames cut using Spellbinders 6 x 6 Matting Basics A. The largest mat made with the largest two dies in the set are simply glued to back of my frame. Then I cut a smaller square frame to highlight the aperture. Two banners cut from Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags and stamped them with a sweet new set of sentiments from Quietfire Design called You Are.

Whoa Betty, it seems like we just turned the corner into a new year and now the days are flying by like there is no tomorrow! I’m tickled to be here today and wanted to share a card created last fall that will fit the bill for many of the holidays coming up. There’s still time to make Valentines Day Cards but as soon as that is done, it’s time to collect ideas for Easter and Mothers Day. My card today was created with some of the extra special pieces that go along with the Spellbinders Graceful Frame Maker; those are fairly big accent pieces. I simply love the flourish that is included because it’s a strong enough accent to bookend with any other shape to make a great focal point and I was able to thread ribbon through it. A regular in my stash are the cursive sentiments that fit almost any occasion – this one is Spellbinders Spellbinders Sentiments 4, and it is mounted on the double ended tag from Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags. So let’s run through this. . . I created a cream card base, added the matted text panel, positioned two of the Crisscrossing elements from the Frame Maker set (cut in gold) then on top added a pointed element like Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants (cut in black) with the points at the top of the card. Then, I threaded ribbon through the appropriate holes. Next I added the matted lady element, added the double ended tag and topped it with the cursive words. To finish, I glued a bow on top :-)
This is a huge card (will measure and post the size) that requires a custom envelope – I either send in a bubble wrap catalog envelope or I make a special one using one of the envelope boards on the market. I have a host of digital elements that I use quite often, so the background digital paper is a free download and can be found HERE and the lady digital is a purchased element that can be found HERE.

conversation. people today don’t seem to know how to converse with each other face to face. as a child it seemed silly sitting around talking with the folks. now I wish I had spent more time doing it. beautiful card.
Wow! This one took me a minute to think about Becca! But, I would say, once all stores were closed on Sundays so that the family could focus on the Lord’s Day. I remember having dinner/lunch at home & not running to the malls or anywhere else. Maybe, only to a friends house for dinner/lunch, but that was about it. It was also family time. I think that would be such a nice custom to make a come back. Giving the Lord honor & His place of respect is so much needed in our country. This would be one place we could begin. (Not to mention his place in our schools.)
Another beautiful card as always Becca. A custom that is for gotten is calling people on the phone so many people text and email anymore that simple phone call is falling by the way side. Christine S.

Sitting together as a family to eat. As a child we did very little of that. When my children were little we got to do this and it was wonderful.
Granny used to say you made time for what was important to you.
I’d love to bring back the custom of looking someone in their eyes when they talk to you. I call it being present and it says I’m listening to you. Second, I love the tradition of talking to someone one on one in person or on the phone instead of delegating it to an email. Hard to keep it to one custom but, I’d love to bring back the tradition of going to church, of saying thank you, of hugging, of shaking hands and of saying I love you and of doing the right thing even when it isn’t the easiest. Can you tell how close this question is to my heart?

The current generation has lost the custom of sending had written cards–especially Thank Yous. They seem to communicate mostly by text message.

I love this week’s card and I’ve been playing with different borders and my frame maker too.
Well, this will really sound ‘old’ school but I’m actually a “young senior” but comes from a time when we did almost everything by hand. My granddaughter actually thought I had flipped when I sat to sew a top on the sewing machine. She is living in a world of instant gratification, instant communication and instant everything. Now I am on a mission to expose her to sewing, crocheting, tatting, embroidering, cross-stitching, knitting and even cooking. If anything I hope this will even a little expand her world and knowledge to what made this world function.
Very pretty card Becca. I like the teal or turquoise color. It makes a very pretty card. The velvet ribbon adds a nice elegant feature as well.
WOW, this card is a beauty! I believe that communication, in general, is rapidly becoming lost. Spending time together. Actively listening to another without distraction. Sending/receiving a card or note. What passes for communication these days is impersonal and distracted. So sad.

We always had Sunday dinners at my Mom’s and when she was not
able to cook for that many people we kept the tradition at my home. We still now have all the Sunday dinners with our smaller group and no cell phones allowed at the table. So miss all the
good phone conversations with family and friends. Too many
protesters of everything now and very sad to see our precious
country in such disarray. Thanks for sharing your god given
talent with all of us.

I think they made a huge mistake by taking the Home EC Classes out of the School system where I live . So many children are what we term “Latchkey” Kids and have never had the time with their very hardworking parents to learn the basic life skills they need to just get through every day things. I know , I was one but I was determined to learn what I needed to survive and I had wonderful home EC Teachers that taught me more than just setting up a house. They taught me how to respect myself and others, taught me how not to give into the Peer Pressures, how not to judge myself so critically since I came from a very traumatic background. Taught me how to actually see myself as a lady worthy of love instead of just an object to be misused, neglected and abused. They gave me a love for life and the crafts I now enjoy immensely. So I say Thanks to Virginia Higgins (Sewing Class) and Ms. Ragsdale (Cooking Class, YAC).

I really feel I am the good company of kindred souls. Why? It touches my heart to hear of the outpouring of love and caring from your dear readers. Women of such generosity. Women that send cards, handmade cards…sending love in an envelope. So much today is focused on the fastest and easiest…emails, Facebook. I think we should be mindful of how we spend our life. It’s good to ask myself, “What will feed my soul?” “How can I live in integrity with who I am?” Okay, I’m not fast and I do things in a time-intensive way. I really feel out of “synch” with most of the world but being connected with this community has made me feel less alone.

Oh your question today, WOW, I could answer it in so many ways, I totally agree with your comment, you are so right on with thoughts.
The current society (young adults) and our future (students) is self centered and have no clue how to say, do, express themselves unless its to “whine” that they aren’t being given what they want now.
I would love to see respect for life return! It would mean more family time, dinners around a table, actually pay attention to your children, teach your children life skills, including respect, please/thank you, remove all the “horrible” video games, teach your children what the outdoors is like.
I won’t rattle on and on and on, I love all your bloggers posts, it seems to me all these paper crafters understand what is needed in our world to make it a peaceful, loving society!

Back when I was a young girl we used to go every weekend to visit my granny’s house. I remember all us girls, young and old, sitting on the porch stringing beans, pealing apples, cracking nuts, sewing, or whatever … and just talking. Just talking and laughing and getting what choirs needed to be done but doing it as a family and with so much love. How I wish I could go back to just one of those days and just see everyone again. I make sure when the grandchildren are here spending the night that we just sit and talk. I tell them stories, we sing, we picnic in the kitchen floor but we spend time together with out the electronic gadgets. They sometimes pretend they don’t like it but they always ask for more stories , picnics on the floor and they always ask for the good night song we have sung since they were babies. They are 11 and 9 now. I hope they remember Me-Me with as many happy memories as I remember of my granny. God bless…Denice : )

I’m wholeheartedly with bringing back family traditions: eating together as a family (electronics free), studying scripture together as a family, raising a family garden, etc., and even extended family get togethers. A society is as strong as its families are.
Love the frame maker! So many things to do with it.
I’d love to see 2 things come back. Regular family dinners at the dinner table, and Thank You cards. It seems like less and less people send Thank You cards these days to acknowledge receiving a gift for a wedding or new baby, etc.
I love, love, LOVE the blue in this card – as well as the new You Are sentiments! Oh, so pretty :) I think the thing I miss the most is true letter writing – pen to paper, pages long letters. I know – it’s faster to type, and email is so quick and there is something to the connectivity in that. But there is also something to the process of pen to paper as well and snail mail. I miss it.

As far as crafts, I think knitting and crocheting are not being passed down as they used to be. Fewer of the younger generation seem interested.
I also think handwritten thank you notes are becoming a thing of the past. Sad that email has taken the place of something more personal.

I loved the card, I have ordered the frame maker die, and I can’t wait until I can play with it. I have to say, I was not a big fan of the cell phone when it first came out, yes it is great for when you had an emergency, but now all you see are people bent over their phones, even my son and I go out to eat, he pulls out his phone and I my tablet and read my book.Sadly these are the habits the younger generation will pick up. I grew up in a small town in N. Dak. and everything revolved around either church or family and some really really good food,sad to say those days are gone too!!

We have a young family next door who have the MOST polite young children. Even to each other! I agree there just aren’t enough of the old-fashioned traditional please, thank you and you’re welcome. Not to mention holding a door open for a mom with a stroller or an older couple with walker/cane. Sigh. Beautiful card. The new color is a nice touch.

About the customs, I agree with most here on everything, and I especially think, it´s sad, that young people are not taught about the very normale manners now a days, as it´s the young people, who we despite, while it´s actually the ones, who raised them we should , as it´s them who forgot to teach them.And sooo many old customs goes missing now, because noone hand them down to the young ones anymore,and my expirience are, that they actually really want to learn, but the adults are always too busy making money or being on the next vacation, they saved for and just never takes any time to spend with the younger ones, and that is sooo sad.

Beautiful card, as always. I think the old custom of sending a hand written “thank you” note has been lost in the present generation. Texts and emails don’t make up for a truly personal written message of thanks.
A lovely card! The background looks like one solid piece because you mitered the corners with your Frame Maker die. It does an amazing job!
I’d like to bring back church on Sunday and a family meal after then family fUn and relaxation after. If you are in church, seems like everyone goes out to noisy restaurants after or runs off in different directions. I would also like letter writing personal letters to come back. I have my Grandparents love letters from 1919 and cherish them. People aren’t leaving that kind of legacy behind anymore.

I echo your sentiments on customs you would like to bring back. Also, in my opinion, the younger generation don’t seem to have the same values that my generation were brought up to have. They seem to live their lives on Facebook or equivalent, which in turn makes them unhappy and depressed that their lives are not the same. Also, they don’t have the art of conversation anymore, I know that texting and emailing are brilliant, but the words that the ‘sender’ uses may not be the same as what the ‘recipient’ thinks they mean, because the interpretation may be different. I also wish that more people would go to Church, they only seem to go for Weddings, Funerals and Christenings, and don’t seem to realise that the Churches have to ‘survive’ and rely on people who patronise them on a regular basis. My final ‘moan’ haha, is that the whole ‘meaning’ of Christmas is non-existent, the main focus is now on how many presents they can buy or receive, instead of the Glorious day that our Lord was born, the majority of Religious occasions seem to be forgotten and people only see them as days off work or similar, the whole occasion is forgotten. I will get off my ‘soap box’ now hahaha.

Our America is so violent and full of anger anymore. This is not the America I grew up in and do not want my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing up in such an angry environment. The only solution to this, as far as I can see, is to put God back into our lives. One parent families are not good for children and it just continues the problems through the generations. I love the card. You should use color more often. It is beautiful. Someday we may wish we knew how to preserve food. If something were to happen to our good sources many people would not know how to preserve food.
I wasn’t going to chime in on this post because I am a day late in getting to read your blog. The advantage of being a day late is that I got to read everyone’s comments. I did think of something that no one else has commented on. I would love to see the return of a good work ethic. Of course, there are many other important things already mentioned, like prayer in schools, going to church, listening to others, good conversational skills, and the ever waning properly written thank-you note. (Aren’t we sick of opening a thank you card that has only one line written in it?? If we are fortunate enough to even get a card, and not a text….) But the good work ethic is becoming extinct.
May I also add, the card you have featured is lovely, Becca. I think it is so creative in how you have used the velum over the frame with the pretty gold ornament off to the left of the sentiment. Absolutely perfect.
I love your card. The colors are beautiful and you did such a great job on it.
I would like to hear “Thank you” more often. We give Christmas and birthday gifts and if you are not present when the person opens the gift, you never hear whether they appreciated the gift or not.
Saying thank you. I have found young people quite often do not acknowledge a card or birthday gift but just take it as their right. I sound picky I know but sometime you don’t even know if it arrived!

Love this card! This blue is a favorite. All the comments have been great customs to bring back. And I’d love their return. Would love to see more genuine kindness and willingness to help others. When I was a kid we weren’t rich, but if someone was in need you did what you could to help. There’s too much ‘all about me’ mentality today.
Pretty pretty card Becca. It so happens I love this color. The custom lost I believe is family dinners on Sundays. Everyone is going their own ways and doing their things. When we do have a holiday dinner it seems everyone is on their cell phones. Next year there will be no cell phones allowed at the table. People need to talk to one another.

So many customs are going by the wayside. One that comes to mind is the younger generation does not put flowers on the family graves on Memorial Day or any other time; write thank you’s; sit down to meals as a family, say Grace before a meal or offer up a prayer before bedtime, must be looking at their cell phones all the time, want instant satisfaction now, and they don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions. It’s a sad place today.

What a beautiful card. I could say so many things about this topic. Wow where do you start? I would bring back the custom of eating together everynight as a family (so many families do not do this anymore due to work commitments), saying grace & giving thanks, cursive writing in schools, Less computer learning & more craft in primary schools, Getting a phone call when you get the job instead of an email, less txts more phone calls especially when its inportant.

Hi Becca! I’ve admired your work for several years now. I’m always amazed at the beauty and elegance in your cards. This card touches me heart. The world seems to be ever changing and we live such busy lives. Sometimes it’s just nice to stop and let someone else know just how much they mean to you. You never know how much so few words could mean so much.
It was always so lovely to see us (my children) around the big table playing games or cards in the evening time in winter, just as my parents did with us. Now families have nearly lost that my grandchildren and their mums An dads are so busy playing their own games I think it’s sad.

Your card is gorgeous. What I would like to see happen is no stores open and no sport activities on Sundays. Sundaysshould be time for church and family like it was when I was a kid. We raised our kids like this.
