Hello sweet friends!  I’m popping in today with a new card and simply to say hi.  I’m ticking along in the background, while savoring some of the good weather that is coming my way.  Today I’m using a color I don’t often use and I’ve reached for a border that has been in my stash for quite some some.  If you have or are curious about the Spellbinders Graceful Frame Maker, the border that I’ve used here practically cuts itself.  I have a video that shows how the tool works – HERE.  I’m using Spellbinders Renaissance Border One.  Since this border cuts its own straight edge, that means you don’t have to trim it and makes it extra easy for use with the Frame Maker.

This card is 6.5″x 6.5″and goes together so, so easily.  I simply cut my frame with the 6″x 6″ Frame Maker and layered it with two frames cut using Spellbinders 6 x 6 Matting Basics A.  The largest mat made with the largest two dies in the set are simply glued to back of my frame.  Then I cut a smaller square frame to highlight the aperture.  Two banners cut from Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags and stamped them with a sweet new set of sentiments from Quietfire Design called You Are.

conversation. people today don’t seem to know how to converse with each other face to face. as a child it seemed silly sitting around talking with the folks. now I wish I had spent more time doing it. beautiful card.ReplyCancel

Wow! This one took me a minute to think about Becca! But, I would say, once all stores were closed on Sundays so that the family could focus on the Lord’s Day. I remember having dinner/lunch at home & not running to the malls or anywhere else. Maybe, only to a friends house for dinner/lunch, but that was about it. It was also family time. I think that would be such a nice custom to make a come back. Giving the Lord honor & His place of respect is so much needed in our country. This would be one place we could begin. (Not to mention his place in our schools.)ReplyCancel

I’d love to bring back the custom of looking someone in their eyes when they talk to you. I call it being present and it says I’m listening to you. Second, I love the tradition of talking to someone one on one in person or on the phone instead of delegating it to an email. Hard to keep it to one custom but, I’d love to bring back the tradition of going to church, of saying thank you, of hugging, of shaking hands and of saying I love you and of doing the right thing even when it isn’t the easiest. Can you tell how close this question is to my heart?ReplyCancel

Well, this will really sound ‘old’ school but I’m actually a “young senior” but comes from a time when we did almost everything by hand. My granddaughter actually thought I had flipped when I sat to sew a top on the sewing machine. She is living in a world of instant gratification, instant communication and instant everything. Now I am on a mission to expose her to sewing, crocheting, tatting, embroidering, cross-stitching, knitting and even cooking. If anything I hope this will even a little expand her world and knowledge to what made this world function.ReplyCancel

Marilyny, I am thinking the very same thing. I am only 44 and have one grandson my daughter refuses to let me see at all.

I think they made a huge mistake by taking the Home EC Classes out of the School system where I live . So many children are what we term “Latchkey” Kids and have never had the time with their very hardworking parents to learn the basic life skills they need to just get through every day things. I know , I was one but I was determined to learn what I needed to survive and I had wonderful home EC Teachers that taught me more than just setting up a house. They taught me how to respect myself and others, taught me how not to give into the Peer Pressures, how not to judge myself so critically since I came from a very traumatic background. Taught me how to actually see myself as a lady worthy of love instead of just an object to be misused, neglected and abused. They gave me a love for life and the crafts I now enjoy immensely. So I say Thanks to Virginia Higgins (Sewing Class) and Ms. Ragsdale (Cooking Class, YAC).

This would be my Custom to bring back. Mentors for young girls who may not have the support at home.

Becca, I am actually weeping right now as this card is so lovely and the saying is all I have longed to hear all my life and still do…..Thank You for the reminder {{{hugz}}} P.S. I would love to have this as it is my favorite color and I love the lacy look.ReplyCancel

  • Sandy ArtmanFebruary 24, 2017 - 6:32 pm

What a lovely card, Becca, the color really gave my heart a lift. Just beautiful and what could be better than receiving a message filled with love?
I really feel I am the good company of kindred souls. Why? It touches my heart to hear of the outpouring of love and caring from your dear readers. Women of such generosity. Women that send cards, handmade cards…sending love in an envelope. So much today is focused on the fastest and easiest…emails, Facebook. I think we should be mindful of how we spend our life. It’s good to ask myself, “What will feed my soul?” “How can I live in integrity with who I am?” Okay, I’m not fast and I do things in a time-intensive way. I really feel out of “synch” with most of the world but being connected with this community has made me feel less alone.
Thank you, Becca, for being who you are,
    Love & blessings,
    SandyReplyCancel

WOW, I am over the moon in love with your card today, your turquoise is just so refreshing and your ribbon with the pink flowers is a perfect pair, ahhhh!
Oh your question today, WOW, I could answer it in so many ways, I totally agree with your comment, you are so right on with thoughts.
The current society (young adults) and our future (students) is self centered and have no clue how to say, do, express themselves unless its to “whine” that they aren’t being given what they want now.
I would love to see respect for life return! It would mean more family time, dinners around a table, actually pay attention to your children, teach your children life skills, including respect, please/thank you, remove all the “horrible” video games, teach your children what the outdoors is like.
I won’t rattle on and on and on, I love all your bloggers posts, it seems to me all these paper crafters understand what is needed in our world to make it a peaceful, loving society!

Back when I was a young girl we used to go every weekend to visit my granny’s house. I remember all us girls, young and old, sitting on the porch stringing beans, pealing apples, cracking nuts, sewing, or whatever … and just talking. Just talking and laughing and getting what choirs needed to be done but doing it as a family and with so much love. How I wish I could go back to just one of those days and just see everyone again. I make sure when the grandchildren are here spending the night that we just sit and talk. I tell them stories, we sing, we picnic in the kitchen floor but we spend time together with out the electronic gadgets. They sometimes pretend they don’t like it but they always ask for more stories , picnics on the floor and they always ask for the good night song we have sung since they were babies. They are 11 and 9 now. I hope they remember Me-Me with as many happy memories as I remember of my granny. God bless…Denice : )ReplyCancel

I love, love, LOVE the blue in this card – as well as the new You Are sentiments! Oh, so pretty :) I think the thing I miss the most is true letter writing – pen to paper, pages long letters. I know – it’s faster to type, and email is so quick and there is something to the connectivity in that. But there is also something to the process of pen to paper as well and snail mail. I miss it.ReplyCancel

  • Judy BennettFebruary 24, 2017 - 9:24 pm

Absolutely stunning card Becca. The roses are such a lovely touch.

As far as crafts, I think knitting and crocheting are not being passed down as they used to be. Fewer of the younger generation seem interested.

I also think handwritten thank you notes are becoming a thing of the past. Sad that email has taken the place of something more personal.ReplyCancel

I loved the card, I have ordered the frame maker die, and I can’t wait until I can play with it. I have to say, I was not a big fan of the cell phone when it first came out, yes it is great for when you had an emergency, but now all you see are people bent over their phones, even my son and I go out to eat, he pulls out his phone and I my tablet and read my book.Sadly these are the habits the younger generation will pick up. I grew up in a small town in N. Dak. and everything revolved around either church or family and some really really good food, sad to say those days are gone too!!ReplyCancel

Your card is as usual very beautiful Becca and I love the teal color on it too.
About the customs, I agree with most here on everything, and I especially think, it´s sad, that young people are not taught about the very normale manners now a days, as it´s the young people, who we despite, while it´s actually the ones, who raised them we should , as it´s them who forgot to teach them. And sooo many old customs goes missing now, because noone hand them down to the young ones anymore, and my expirience are, that they actually really want to learn, but the adults are always too busy making money or being on the next vacation, they saved for and just never takes any time to spend with the younger ones, and that is sooo sad.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card, as always. I think the old custom of sending a hand written “thank you” note has been lost in the present generation. Texts and emails don’t make up for a truly personal written message of thanks.ReplyCancel

  • Sandra SmithFebruary 25, 2017 - 5:07 am

A lovely card! The background looks like one solid piece because you mitered the corners with your Frame Maker die. It does an amazing job!

I’d like to bring back church on Sunday and a family meal after then family fUn and relaxation after. If you are in church, seems like everyone goes out to noisy restaurants after or runs off in different directions. I would also like letter writing personal letters to come back. I have my Grandparents love letters from 1919 and cherish them. People aren’t leaving that kind of legacy behind anymore.

  • Patricia HowarthFebruary 25, 2017 - 9:58 am

Hi Becca, A very beautiful card with your gorgeous dies and the flowers are so pretty !!
I echo your sentiments on customs you would like to bring back. Also, in my opinion, the younger generation don’t seem to have the same values that my generation were brought up to have. They seem to live their lives on Facebook or equivalent, which in turn makes them unhappy and depressed that their lives are not the same. Also, they don’t have the art of conversation anymore, I know that texting and emailing are brilliant, but the words that the ‘sender’ uses may not be the same as what the ‘recipient’ thinks they mean, because the interpretation may be different. I also wish that more people would go to Church, they only seem to go for Weddings, Funerals and Christenings, and don’t seem to realise that the Churches have to ‘survive’ and rely on people who patronise them on a regular basis. My final ‘moan’ haha, is that the whole ‘meaning’ of Christmas is non-existent, the main focus is now on how many presents they can buy or receive, instead of the Glorious day that our Lord was born, the majority of Religious occasions seem to be forgotten and people only see them as days off work or similar, the whole occasion is forgotten. I will get off my ‘soap box’ now hahaha.
    Enjoy your weekend.
Lots of love from Patricia xxReplyCancel

Our America is so violent and full of anger anymore. This is not the America I grew up in and do not want my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing up in such an angry environment. The only solution to this, as far as I can see, is to put God back into our lives. One parent families are not good for children and it just continues the problems through the generations. The Lord is the only one who help us. beautiful card. Wish you had a frame maker for a A2 card. Thanks for sharing your card and your thoughts with us.ReplyCancel

  • Chelsea JohnsonFebruary 25, 2017 - 8:10 pm

I wasn’t going to chime in on this post because I am a day late in getting to read your blog. The advantage of being a day late is that I got to read everyone’s comments. I did think of something that no one else has commented on. I would love to see the return of a good work ethic. Of course, there are many other important things already mentioned, like prayer in schools, going to church, listening to others, good conversational skills, and the ever waning properly written thank-you note. (Aren’t we sick of opening a thank you card that has only one line written in it?? If we are fortunate enough to even get a card, and not a text….) But the good work ethic is becoming extinct.
May I also add, the card you have featured is lovely, Becca. I think it is so creative in how you have used the velum over the frame with the pretty gold ornament off to the left of the sentiment. Absolutely perfect.ReplyCancel

  • AlisonFebruary 26, 2017 - 12:28 am

Saying thank you. I have found young people quite often do not acknowledge a card or birthday gift but just take it as their right. I sound picky I know but sometime you don’t even know if it arrived!

Love this card! This blue is a favorite. All the comments have been great customs to bring back. And I’d love their return. Would love to see more genuine kindness and willingness to help others. When I was a kid we weren’t rich, but if someone was in need you did what you could to help. There’s too much ‘all about me’ mentality today.ReplyCancel

Pretty pretty card Becca. It so happens I love this color. The custom lost I believe is family dinners on Sundays. Everyone is going their own ways and doing their things. When we do have a holiday dinner it seems everyone is on their cell phones. Next year there will be no cell phones allowed at the table. People need to talk to one another.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card. Just rec’d my new frame die and so glad you added the link so I can review how to use it before I wasted my paper.

So many customs are going by the wayside. One that comes to mind is the younger generation does not put flowers on the family graves on Memorial Day or any other time; write thank you’s; sit down to meals as a family, say Grace before a meal or offer up a prayer before bedtime, must be looking at their cell phones all the time, want instant satisfaction now, and they don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions. It’s a sad place today.ReplyCancel

I would bring back the custom of eating together everynight as a family (so many families do not do this anymore due to work commitments), saying grace & giving thanks, cursive writing in schools, Less computer learning & more craft in primary schools, Getting a phone call when you get the job instead of an email, less txts more phone calls especially when its inportant.

Hello there today!!!  Peeking in to share a card for Day of Giving Friday.  This is one of my oldies but there are few that are closer to my heart.  This week I’m working on new dies and it’s a little bit like dreaming with your eyes open.  I always think about what I don’t already have and what I’d like to have and what I’d like to go with what I already have.  In other words, my mind is always churning and full of ideas.  If you’d like to leave a general suggestion – pop up to my contact tab (please do not leave as a public comment) and leave me a little note in the form that pops up.  Even though I can’t answer every note, I do read them.

For new readers, every Friday it’s my pleasure to give away a card.   The card goes to a randomly picked reader (worldwide) who leaves a comment in our conversation. Want to know more about Day of Giving, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.  I’ll be updating the list of winners this weekend so be sure to stop back by to check the list of winners HERE!  When I started out blogging many years ago, I predominantly used scripture stamps.  For your comment: I’m curious . . . in your card giving do you have a preference of scripture or everyday sentiments or a balance of both?  Do tell…

I’m doing very well!  It seems 2017 is off to a slow start for me but I’m taking time to think, process and feel instead of the constant panic and hurry that has been life for a long time.  I call this savoring the good things and being present.  And, one of the things I truly savor is the sweet people who pop in and out of my life online.  Know you are treasured!!

This is so beautiful Becca. With regard to sentiments in my cards I use either a verse of scripture or an encouraging quote. I love to make the sentiment the focal point of my card. I have a friend who calls me “the quote queen”! I’ll go with that because it it so true! Hugs Christine xxReplyCancel

  • DottieFebruary 17, 2017 - 3:28 pm

I just reread your post and saw the question. I use more scripture sentiments than any others but Birthday ones. I find it really hard to find sentiments that aren’t all about bucking up, just do this or that and you’ll be fine. It’s hard to be encouraging when most sentiments are all the same out there. I spend too much money on a packet of stamps for just one that works.ReplyCancel

What a beautiful card, love the feather embellishment! I usually use everyday sentiments, only because that is what I have in stamp form. I would love to have a few nice scripture verses to use in my cards. Those are hard to find where I usually get my stamp sets. Sometimes I just write in a scripture passage that I like. Thanks for sharing and for the chance to win one of your gorgeous cards.

Oh Becca, this is a most beautiful and loving card. I have all of your dies now and look forward to using them with this sentiment. We lost so many family and friends last year and I only wish that I had had such a beautiful saying to send. Usually, my cards contain a quote appropriate for the occasion, which I place on the left side or top of the inside message sheet. My inside sentiment is personally designed for the individual or occasion and includes a Poem with the mention of the person’s special interest or a connection somehow to the design of the card. I have been sending hand made cards since 1996. I hope I never run out of ideas. Thanks to you and Quietfire (to which my kids gave me a gift card) I think I’m OK for now. I use my computer word program to categorize occasions so I don’t send the same thoughts twice to the same person. Hugs, SaraReplyCancel

BEAUTIFUL CARD, BECCA! I LOOOOOVE this Scripture! I’ll HAVE TO look for it! I like a nice mix between Scriptures & just general sentiments. The one Scripture I want, isn’t out there though. So, what is a girl to do, but write it out on her own! LOL It’s my favorite Scripture. There are times that a Scripture is the only thing that works, & other times, a general verse fits! ;)ReplyCancel

Good news indeed to hear you are well and getting some down time. Such a necessity, but many times we treat rest like a luxury, especially if we want to do our best creative work.

Hi Becca, You have used the best of the best from dies gone by but you always put a fresh twist on them and that added bow is deal maker. Thanks for sharing and using past items–doesn’t feel as though it was wasteful spending when I added those dies to my collection.

I always use scripture when appropriate for the recipient. If I don’t know the person that well I revert to paraphrases of scripture or generic sentiments. It’s the contact that’s important even more than the thought sent. Just remembering them speaks volumes.

I hope and pray all is well with you and your family. You are a treasure and I appreciate your expressions of love displayed through your designs. BarbaraReplyCancel

  • SuzzieQFebruary 17, 2017 - 7:13 pm

Such a precious card! Are those “bells” I see on top of the bow and around the flowers? Mostly I use everyday sentiments. I also use scripture and Quiet Fire sentiments. This week I made a similar card to your “If kisses were snow flakes”, Day of Giving, 16 Dec 2016. The lady I made it for likes RED, a lot! So I did the background in red and layered the red on white. I cut the Spellbinders Fabulous Fretwork out of white card and pieced them together. I used your SP Arched Swallowtail die and cut it in red. I used a SP tag that has roses on it to hold my greeting which I cut out of white card. Most of the rose tag was red, but I cut one out of white to use the roses as an applique after I sponged red through the die. I added a lovely white satin ribbon and bow and adorned the bow with a handmade deep red rose that I had glittered. Of course, I had to add lots of white pearls. I think it’s very pretty and I can hardly wait to give it to this lady. Thank you for your inspiration for this card. I hope you were able to watch “John Next Door” demonstrate on Hochanda your dies made for Spellbinders. I think he did a great job. If you missed his shows, you can still see the shows on “catch-up or “replay” for a week or so more. Wishing you a blessed weekend.ReplyCancel

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Graceful Frame Maker Tool, Spellbinders Sentiments 4, Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags , Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants - see fully supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
News flash:  I’m getting caught up – Nine new card winners have been listed on my Giveaway Page – they have an * in front of their names so that they are easier to find.   Slowly but surely all the prizes are being sent out – please bear with me – it was a busy, busy fall :-)

Whoa Betty, it seems like we just turned the corner into a new year and now the days are flying by like there is no tomorrow!  I’m tickled to be here today and wanted to share a card created last fall that will fit the bill for many of the holidays coming up.  There’s still time to make Valentines Day Cards but as soon as that is done, it’s time to collect ideas for Easter and Mothers Day.  My card today was created with some of the extra special pieces that go along with the Spellbinders Graceful Frame Maker; those are fairly big accent pieces.  I simply love the flourish that is included because it’s a strong enough accent to bookend with any other shape to make a great focal point and I was able to thread ribbon through it.   A regular in my stash are the cursive sentiments that fit almost any occasion – this one is Spellbinders Spellbinders Sentiments 4, and it is mounted on the double ended tag from Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags.   So let’s run through this. . . I created a cream card base, added the matted text panel, positioned two of the Crisscrossing elements from the Frame Maker set (cut in gold) then on top added a pointed element like Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants (cut in black) with the points at the top of the card.  Then, I threaded ribbon through the appropriate holes.  Next  I added the matted lady element, added the double ended tag and topped it with the cursive words.  To finish, I glued a bow on top :-)

This is a huge card (will measure and post the size) that requires a custom envelope – I either send in a bubble wrap catalog envelope or I make a special one using one of the envelope boards on the market.  I have a host of digital elements that I use quite often, so the background digital paper is a free download and can be found HERE and the lady digital is a purchased element that can be found HERE.

What a lovely card, Becca. I like the way you used the flourish, and I really like the newsprint and black digi.

My favorite time to make a card is nearly anytime, but I really like after dinner – I can escape the basketball games or whatever the boys are watching, head for the cave and have some Mom time alone – it’s quiet in that part of the house, and it’s just me in my space, no distractions.ReplyCancel

  • LoisFebruary 10, 2017 - 2:50 pm

Such a Victoria look to your card today. It is quite pretty. My favorite time to make cards is whenever the spirit hits. But I try to have at least some of the housework done and supper planned. Have a good sunny weekend. We are digging out of 14 inches of snow with more to come over the weekend.ReplyCancel

    AFTERNOON BECCA,
This is such a pretty compulation of your bits and pieces that you make into something so lovely.
My favorite time to craft is well in advance of an event I have to make something for. Procrastation is not in my dictionary and I hate to be rushed so like to get at it well in advance of needing it. I don’t however get that much time to get things done and to have a stash on hand. Unfortunately!
Have a great weekend and glad you are getting caught up!!

This card is elegantly beautiful. I’ve found that working on my card projects after lunch the most relaxing peaceful time of the day. The daily household chores are done, fed the husband and it’s nap time for all including the dogs. With my tummy full and my mind at peace, I’m able to casually take my time creating another card project. This isn’t every day but when situations permit midday is best.ReplyCancel

Another gorgeous card here from you Becca. Soooo beautiful and elegant as always hun, and the diecuts are also as usual just perfect and makes the most amazing card.
My favorit time to sit down and make a card, can be anytime at the day, and it´s different from time to time, it´s more about to get the spirit for it, and it can be the most weird times, that I suddenly get an idea, that I just have to try right away. I think, the most weird has been once, I woke up in the middle of a dream and just had an answer to a problem, I´d been playing around with for a few days, and suddenly I woke up and just knew, how to solve it, and went straight dowwn and finished it in a heartbeat.ReplyCancel
