Hi there friends, so I wanted to change up things just a teensy tiny bit and offer a new card and oh, a crafting tip! Also, this is the card that’s up for grabs! The back story is that I simply needed to play at my desk, I pulled out one my favorite ever quotes from Quietfire Design called the And the Day Came. I had this design in the back of my mind and it turned out better than I thought it would. I’ve been cutting new dies too and shuffling them all over my desk – it’s a good feeling. (Just leave a comment on this post and I’ll post the winner on the Giveaway page tomorrow.)
I used one of my all time favorite dies – Spellbinders Antique Corner – I have quite a few cards on the blog using this particular die template – and while you can see all the choices HERE, this time around I changed it up and made a rectangular card instead of square. The size for this card is 5″ x 7-1/4″. What I did different is I made three tiny snips in the die (see picture) so that I could slide it over the corner of my cardstock on the bottom four corners. On the top, I ran the die through with two thicknesses (success depends on your machine and paper thickness) – just as I do in this Hinge Technique so that the two corners are connected (see picture). Top front and top back are inserted into the snipped corners and the inside of the card is lined with the same pattered cardstock. The pretty oval element that I threaded the sentiment though is called Spellbinders Victorian Tags Two.
Designer Tip:
Sometimes when you cut a die, especially the more intricate dies, tiny whiskers may be left behind. No worries! I simply grab my Tool-N-One with the Ball Tip Stylus Attachments and run some adhesive on my non-stick sheet, then run the ball on the end of the stylus over the adhesive to pick some up on the tool. Now it’s as easy as running the stylus around the curve of the cut to whisk up a whisker; the adhesive picks it right up!

True story, I was at a scrapbook/stamping convention where they had sample cards in the booth and they did not say who made the card. After some checking, she agreed it was one of your samples.

Gorgeous card. I love how you used the corner die – what an inspiration you are. Thank for the Tool-n-One tip. Love that tool. My DH picked one up at the stamp show we attended over the weekend and said, “This looks like something you could use.” I said, “It is and I do.” He is an enabler when it comes to finding stuff at stamp stores or shows. He’ll say something like, “You’ll kick yourself later if you don’t get it now.” And he’s usually right.

Loved your tip on removing those pesky whiskers from intricate die cuts. Will give it a try. I keep a can of compressed air in my craft room and lightly blow the die cuts with it and it works pretty well for me….just don’t hold it too close.
Beautiful card Becca. I’ve learned so much from you, but one thing is the way to snip, cut, and tuck all or parts of decorative die cuts to add around the sentiment or center frame. I’ve gotten very creative with my scissors. :) Thank you.

Lovely card! You have inspired me to get my corner dies out and give your clipped corner die a try. Love the effect of placing your cover layer over and under on the corners on this card. Without sounding all over-enthused and gushy, I’ll just say “I love them all”. I’ve been following you since 2/08 and have 3 3″ binders full of photocopies of your cards. This is such a beautiful card Becca although my brain is being slow at working out how you made the top complete across the front and bac. I get the fold the card and cut it like I would for your usual filigree cards but this is just a corner that has to copy itself back to front as well as east to west at the same time? Will need to read again when I have my brain back in gear instead of it being away sight seeing and leaving the rest of the body at home. I love how you transform your ideas into reality and make such incredible works of art. Thank you Becca for making so many peoples day and cheering so many people up

Norah, I think it is an optical illusion. The corner is mirrored front and back. That simply means for the top pieces to fold before cutting insuring your fold line is ‘inside’ and not laying across the the cut line. It will yield a double piece. Then you simply but your card front (left side) and card back (left side) into that double piece. You need two double pieces. The second double piece will take care of the right side of your card. Hope this makes sense :-)
