Good morning friends! Today is Day of Giving Friday where I have a card to give away to one of my wonderful readers. I just love layering dies, it gives cards the extra prettiness and depth that say ‘this is special’ and beautifully handmade with care. Layering and the variety of textures leads the eye right in to the sentiment on this card for a special little highlight. Now you can’t pile everything on, but most of us have these dies in our stash and there’s nothing like layers to help you use those things you’ve collected.
The card uses those classic dies we love so I thought I’d give you a quick run down. The base of the card is made using Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight and Spellbinders Labels Seventeen. If you’re not familiar with how to make a hinged base for a shaped card – I have a quick tutorial HERE. For the frilly prettiness I’m using as the focal panel on the card I stacked from the bottom up using Spellbinders Delicate Doilies, Spellbinders Classic Circles SM, Spellbinders Venetian Motifs and lastly an element from the Delicate Doilies set. The background is embossed with a portion of Spellbinders Framed Petite Labels Embossing Folder.

What a beautiful card. I need to use more dies to make more layers. It adds such dimension to the cards. I have been making and sending cards for at least 10 years. It has become a way of life for me. Now instead of spending hours in the Hallmark store, I spend hours trying to come up with just the right card for each person that receives one.

five or so really going whole hog . If I know it is someones day they probably will get happy mail.
I’ve been card making 01 January 2005 and yes it is a way of life now. As soon as I hear of someone’s birthday or life event I think ‘I must make them a card’. Shop bought cards just aren’t personal enough.

I love the beauty of the card today. Your layers are perfection. I have been giving handmade cards for at least 16 years and have never bought a shop card in that time. But before that I made my own gift tags using dried flowers, leaves and fruit.
I have been crafting since I was a child for a total of at least 65 years – mainly sewing, knitting and crochet.

I started making Christmas cards 15 years ago. At that time I knew nothing about card making. Our friends all loved the photos of wildlife that we took so I decided to make cards using photos and I made up my own verses for Christmas cards. I also used construction paper as that was all I knew. Thankfully I discovered blogs and videos and I still learn something new every day. Yes, giving handmade cards is a way of life for me. I feel that is one way I can brighten the lives of friends and family. I love it when people tell me that they never throw away the cards they receive from me. I´ve been giving my handmade cards for the last 15 years I think, and it sure is a way of life for me, as it means a l.ot to both me, and those who recieve my cards, that they´re made very personal to the recipient. And I can´t imagine, what people would say, if they suddenly didn´t get a handmade card from me, and all our family and friends directly expect it. My grandkids always come running and asking, what I´ve made for them this time, even before, they get their presents, so it tells me, that they really do apreciate them.

I only make them for myself and not to sell, although if any friends want a special card made I will do that, on condition they don’t insist on paying for them. Good morning, Becca! Such a pretty card, this Friday! I’ve been giving handmade cards for oh, decades? Certainly more reliably in the last 10 years or so…maybe a little longer. I love being able to take the time to love and pray into the card I’m making – spend that time for the person it is going to. And I find the same even when creating for my business line – that care and joy going into my product, even though I’ll never know the recipient. It’s just as rewarding.

I didn’t give cards before on a regular basis, they were rare actually. I thought they were too expensive & I could NEVER find a sentiment I liked for the occasion, NOTHING FIT! NOW, I make cards & give them for whatever situation I am in need of! EVEN IF, I write my own sentiment/s! ;)

Your card today is so pretty and oh so special with all those perfectly placed layers. If you do not count the cards I made in elementary school, I have been making cards for about 1 1/2 years now and sending them to loved ones and friends. I guess it depends on how much longer I live, but my goal is to continue to make and send cards for as long as possible. I am really enjoying making and sending my cards and I pray I have lots of time left to do so. Such fun!
I love all pretty dies but am really challenged with thinking of ways to layer. Every time I see what you and others create I am inspired but most of the cards I make are much simpler. I have been sending handmade cards since the late eighties and it definitely is a way of life for me. It seems someone at my church is always in need of a handmade card and with being blessed with a large circle of friends and much family ( including 15 grandkids) I make and send many cards. As of late the most cards I am sending are thank you’s to all the wonderful outpouring of love for me and my terminally ill husband.

I’ve been giving handmade cards since 2008. It is a way of life for me. I can’t say 100% of the cards we mail are handmade but each year more and more of them are. This year my goal is for all family birthday and anniversary cards to be handmade (next year my goal will be to mail them on time. LOL).
Hi Becca. Fabulous card. Love the embossed panel. Been making cards for 5ish years after getting bored with buying shop bought ones as I could never find something to fit the person I was buying for, and when I did the words inside were awful for the most part. So I bought a kit and had a go at sticking things together. After soon getting bored with that I bought a die cutting machine and I’ve never looked back. You just can’t buy the cards we make. They are truly unique and that makes them a gift in themselves. Happy weekend.
I have been giving handmade cards ever since I started stamping. It’s been about 15 years. I give them for every holiday and special occasion to certain family and friends and to everyone on my Christmas card list. I also enjoy making sets to give as gifts. I missed Valentine’s Day this year and people noticed.

I began papercrafting in 2001 with the birth of my first grandchild, Noah. I actually resisted card making until about 5 years ago. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to give cards away, it was that I was just very passionate about preserving memories for my Grandchildren. I want to leave my view of their lives for them when I’m no longer around. When I finally made my first card, I was hooked! I love love love creating cards and giving them away!

Your card for today is absolutely beautiful. Making handmade cards for me started when I was young. My father did not want store bought cards so every occasion I would draw a picture card and he just loved them. When he passed away I was going through some of his things and there was every card I drew for him over the years. Also, I am so happy to be one of your winners on your Giving Friday. You are a master of layering! You amaze me with your elegant eye that can place these intricate layers atop each other so they work so harmoniously with each other.
Making handmade cards is a way of life for me now but it hasn’t always been that way. About 30 years ago I decided to make handmade Christmas cards. That became an annual tradition and has expanded from there. Now, I make cards for myself and others. Making beautiful cards really feeds my soul. I think my total well-being depends on it!

I was an amateur scrapbooker & started after I had kids. About 10 years ago I made my first card. It was for my sister in laws bridal shower. I just could not find one that was pretty enough. I was so scared people would think I was being cheap. But she loved it :D
Though it took my confidence another 7 years before I started to make more. I was always worried people would think I am being cheap, until one day I was trying to get inspiration & googled something. I stumbled upon your blog! That was 1 year ago! You have no idea, as it could have not happened in a better time in my life. A time I felt confused & lost my confidence in many aspects of life. Since then your blog has been a massive inspiration & I have learnt so much. People that receive my cards know they are receiving an original piece, made from the labor of love with hours and care taken to complete. My cards don’t always look as perfect as yours lol, but I can say I no longer fear what they think. Now I just get the odd comment like, “isn’t it just quicker to buy?” Lol They’re the ones that don’t get it!
I have only really been a card maker for 2 years but, I guess it has become a way of life as I find it hard to buy a card because, they are never pretty enough. Did I forget to mention how large my die collection is now ;)

Forgot my comment…..I’ve been making cards for about 8 years now. It’s a way of life now….my ‘therapy’.
I have been making and giving hand made cards for about five years. I had been scrapbooking for a couple of years, and seemed to progress into cardmaking. I now will not give anything but one of my well made homemade cards. I love to make the cards, giving everything I have to make the most beautiful card I know how to make. And I have learned so much over the last five years. My first cards were flat and uninteresting. Now I embellish and make them to a standard that I have set for myself. I spend every free moment working on cards. I may have several working at a time. It is now a part of me and I love it. It fulfills me and gives my creative side an outlet.

I’ve been a serious fan of yours since your Magnolia days and have been inspired by your cards. I’ve learned almost everything I need to know how to put together a card that displays beauty, thought and the collection of dies I just had to have because of you. Part of my weekly routine is to put aside one day to work on various card projects so I always am ready to send a card to someone for whatever reason it calls for. I’ve been making cards for about four years now. It took me about a year to work up the courage to actually give someone one of my cards. I give handmade cards for all occasions with the exception of Christmas. (I design a photo card on line and have it commercially printed because of the number of cards we send.)

For over 25 years I think. I really don’t have any other kind of cards to give. Sometimes I don’t have the “perfect one” so I have to stop and make one, but I give them for every occasion. Nice layers. My mind just does not think in layers….

I have been making cards for 30 years. It is definitely one of my favorite things to do for people and I do consider it a way of life for me. I cannot bring myself to send anything other than a handmade card so if I do not get one made in time they either do not get one at all or they receive it late. I’m hoping to eventually learn to layer dies like you do for elegant beautiful cards…but so far mine are mostly clean and simple. I have some dies, but not a lot yet…and am not good at this beautiful elegant look with the few I do have. I sure dream of figuring it out though cause I just adore your cards!
I have been making cards for about 25 years and just love it. I started by using stencils. then learned how to do parchment cards with inks, pens, piercing tools and now use embossing folders, punches and dies. It is a wonderful hobby and I just love it and always interested in taking courses to learn how to make different cards.

Oh, you went and did it again, another absolutely gorgeous card, and I love it when you create pink and white cards, they are so springy.
I have been stamping continuously for the last four years. During that time you have been a great inspiration to me. I have tried several cards with the Spellbinders that I have, only to have them not turn out very nice? So I keep practicing! Now, I just create something easier and when the recipient receives my card they are appreciative of a hand made card.
I’ve been giving hand made cards for about eight years and I so enjoy making a card for a particular person or occasion.
My dear mother-in-law threatened never to speak to me again if I ever gave her a shop bought card. She was so enthusiastic about all of the ones I gave her.
Another gorgeous card Becca! I started making Christmas cards about 18 years ago and haven’t looked back. I make cards for all occasions but Christmas cards are still my favorite. Yes it’s a way of life for me and my kids “shop” in my extras.

I have been making cards most of my 65 years and got fairly serious about it about 12 years ago just about the time I had my accident and series of back surgeries. Making cards was something I could do rather easily and it allowed me to keep my imagination moving forward and was so much better for me than just sitting and watching television.
Now I feel I am trying to go to the next level! The Becca level is more elegant and complicated but oh so beautiful.

I’ve been making my own cards (and lots of other things) for over 30 years. What I’d really like to thank you for, Becca, is your use of older dies in so many of your projects. The die industry seems to be all about what’s new and the latest release, and it’s not only hard to keep up, but expensive. Just when you begin thinking up projects to use the new dies, there’s another release by some company or other. It’s really a pleasure to see that these older dies still have a lot of life!
I’m a relative “newbie” card maker….a friend got me started 3 years ago and now I can’t stop! I love making cards and giving them as “paper hugs” to all my friends.
Stunning card. I love the embossed pink layer, but you are going to have to explain how you did that. Did you emboss first and then die cut????? However you managed to accomplish this, I love the effect. Please clue me in. Thanks.

Wow Becca !!!!! this card is stunning !! I adore all the layers, they are so pretty and layer together beautifully. I didn’t realise how you had got the corrugated background paper, I would never have guessed you had used this embossing folder, how effective is this !! I love it.

Yes, making cards is my way of life, my hobby, my joy! I think for about 8 years or so? I make my Christmas cards and almost all birthday cards (masculine cards I have to buy sometimes) and other occasion cards too. I love making cards for the special people in my life. :)
Your cards always amaze me! That embossing folder just makes the card (well that and the beautiful layers, your flowers and ribbon)! Really like how you used “not as new” dies for your beautiful card. Thanks for showing and telling us how to do this! :)

I’ve only been making handmade cards since I became disabled 10 years ago and had time on my hands. Now I can’t bear to send a store-bought card– not only because they cost an arm and a leg, but because I feel my friends deserve something better.

Beautiful card, giving handmade cards has been a priority in my life since 2000 for the last 2 yrs. I have not been able to make cards like I used too. I like to see the joy they bring to the receiver. It still is a way of life for me. Maybe not as much as I would like it to be.
Oh This is such a pretty card – I love it! I have been into this craft with all the fancy dies etc. for 3 years now and am loving every minute of it, but have always liked to make hand made cards and notes for people before that.

Better late than not! Attended my #3 daughter’s(age 46)graduation from the University of Texas San Antonio where she earned a Masters of Public Policy/Social Work. So proud of her! Just returned home to your precious Friday card. So diminutive!
I have been a hand weaver since 1986. In 1996 we moved closer to our #2 daughter who was hosting a Stampin’ Up party. I was invited and I was hooked. I found that I could make something pretty with colors and texture, satisfying that immediate need to create. Weaving a cloth takes weeks, but I’m still lovin’ that, too.
