Hi there blog friends! I was running around all day but had a chance to sit down late evening to make a card. A simple card – the paper is doing the heavy lifting for me here. This is another piece from the Crafty Secrets Creating with Vintage Patterns CD. Since I’ve been so busy this week, these papers have sure made my life easier. Just like people read through cards for hours to find the right one, I’m that same way with choosing papers (I drive myself crazy with it). Having a variety of styles in my favorite look makes that particular habit of mine a little bit better. As you can tell, I’ve been very happy with my purchase.
I simply printed out my base paper and printed out a second to cut out the music sheet which I popped up to give the card dimension. I love this piece of paper and I’ll keep this in the back of my mind any time I need a quick card, I’ll just change out the sentiment. The sentiment I’m using today is from the Large Scrapbook Words set from Our Daily Bread Designs. I cut out this sweet, unique tag from the new Spellbinders LF-002 Creative Book Pages Two. There’s not much to do because in the case the paper is so charming!
Since many of you have asked questions about what I’m using to print these papers, I thought I would itemize them here as well. I’m not an expert on digital from a scrapbooking perspective but cardmaking is a little bit different. I’m not worried about acid free and the like because I’m probably looking for not as great a longevity. Last Christmas I gave out a scrapbooking set of calendar pages to my stamping friends so I purchased an expensive little inkjet printer. Mine is an Epson. Do me a favor – look for a printer that has good color and cheap cartridge. Calculate how many pages you can get per cartridge and decide if you can afford it. I was hesitant to mention what I’ve been using because I think you can do better. Here’s what I’ve been using:
Cataloging and Editing: Adobe Elements 9
Printer: Epson Workforce 323
Paper: Georgia Pacific Cardstock (Walmart)
(I’ve also been using Neenah Solar Crest because I have a ream of it on hand – this is a pricey option though and you don’t need to go near this expensive)

You all have asked for a number of tutorials and I’m putting them on my list :-) This week has been a huge set back for me as far as technology – I don’t think I have anything else that can break, lol. My router situation is not solved, I have temporary internet. Tomorrow will be better, bear with me :-)
Hi Becca your card is gorgeous and I love the colours that you have used….also that gorgeous lace. I have a few CDs in my stash….one of our favourites here in the UK is Joanna Sheene but there are so many more and as you said they are so handy for quick cards.

Temporary internet is rough—I know all too well about it. One year recently my cable was knocked out by a storm and it took them well over a month to get it fixed. The cable wires outside in the backyard actually caught on fire. I remember having to use dial up as a backup with an old computer I had packed away in the basement. UGH!! The experience made me wonder how in the world we ever dealt with that in the first place. Needless to say, it was a long month =)
I love your card!! But, I must admit, I have not embraced the whole digital thing yet with card making. I have only a handful of images purchased online, saved to my computer. I don’t know the first thing about Adobe and I don’t even have the program. I suppose the one thing that turned me off to the whole digital thing from the get-go was purchasing a couple of sheets of 1″ circle images online, and when I printed them out, they printed out only a half inch (or less). I don’t know how to fix it due to the frustration of not knowing what I’m doing. I keep saying ‘one day I’ll learn it’ but, so far, I have avoided it….lol

Good morning. I love the card. What is the advantage to printing out your own paper rather than buying paper? Is it the variety factor for someone like you who is very fussy about paper? I’m curious why. Regarding your router, hang in there. You may want to consider having a whole house surge protector installed in your circuit breaker panel box. Also install one each in the circuit panel box for your cable and telephone lines. They add a layer of protection on all the computerized equipment in the house. We also have the wall plug in surge protectors. My husband thought it would be about $500 to have someone install it.

Hi Becca: Another stunning card; the colours are gorgeous. I know exactly what you mean about spending hours deciding on what papers to use! Digital is not something I’ve been interested in because I’ve been afraid it will use too much ink, and there isn’t an inexpensive brand that will last a decent time out there. Up here in Canada items are so much more expensive. Does your printer have a 13″ print head, or just the regular 8 1/2″? That is another reason I haven’t gone digital – trying to find a printer that will print 12×12″ papers for scrapbooking. Thanks for all your work, and your willingness to share. Becca, Your card is jsut gorgeous!! I am crazy for this digital paper you have been using but am not sure I want to try it. My printer does have very reasonable prices for the replacement cartridges but am not crazy for how the colors turn out. I am thinking about getting the CD from Crafty Secrets and having some printed out at Staples– just to see how it goes. Your pins on your cards are so pretty. Where do you find them so long?? The ones I find are shorter. Thanks for all the inspiration

This is lovely!!! I used Crafty Secrets DP most of the time…..and I love it….I love using Digital images also….you can manipulate them so easily…
I was thinking about the getting this CD…..but I must admit…..my computer is 6 years old and I don’t think it can handle it…… and I do not like Adobe….
Love your card & the softness of it. I also LOVE paper & collect it wherever I can (but I am fushy about what I collect-Prima & “Special” unique papers). I started using my copy machine to “copy” all my favorite papers a few years ago. I don’t always know how many times I will decide to use some papers & they are not always available again. So I have been making my own copies. (I also do it because printer paper is much lighter weight than some card stock papers. I do not like a heavy card.) I have my CD on order & am very anxious to see all the patterns. I am looking forward to more of your creations with all the new Spellbinders. I have learned so much from you about layering them. You have just opened up my brain to more creativity. LOVE it !!

Your cards are always amazing and I love the tutorial you provide. You are an amazing, talented woman. I would like to know where you buy your stick pins. I haven’t found the long ones you use to create the ones you use on your cards. That is a very nice touch to your already beautiful cards. Sorry to hear you are having tech problems. I had 2 months of off and on problems that finally got resolved. It’s one of those can’t live with them – can’t live without them issues.
I just love this CD and have been experimenting with it. I just love it. Your card is lovely and am thankful for the info you shared. Haven’t tried the Georgia Pacific yet (not a big Walmart fan), but I might have to give it a try.

Becca the card you made is beautiful but I am not sure I can wrap my mind around digital made vs handmade. In the Rubber Stamp group I belong to many have voiced similar opinions about digital stamp images vs hand stamped. I guess I simply enjoy the process and am not sure I will be on board in the near future with digital paper. Always willing to read about and learn more tho so I thank you for sharing what you learn and experience.
I really like this card but have been very hesitant to print my own papers. Yours are beautiful. Maybe I will give it a try.

Thanks so much for adding your digi printing comments–you saving me! By playing around with Adobe Photoshop, I was finally able to use my Crafty Secrets CD (they were also checking with their computer person to see what they could advise to help me). I was so anxious to use those gorgeous papers! Its so hard to find delicate, vintage style floral paper.

I love, love, love this card – vintage is my favorite style. I would love if you would consider a tutorial using the CD showing exactly what you can do – I have not gotten into digital yet – don’t know what other programs, if any, are needed to create cards with this CD. Gorgeous card Becca, I have quite a few papercrafting CD’s. Some digital images and printable papers are gorgeous. I hope it’s okay for me to mention a couple of other programs you would probably love:
I bought the Serif Craft Artist program, and it is a joy to work with and I can create my own very arty papers with some backgrounds with very arty digi stamps placed hoewever & wherever I like, to suit myself. Craft Artist was designed for scrapbooking but also caters for car making and other papercraft ideas. It does tonnes of stuff I’ve yet to discover but you feel you can do somnething straight away as soon as you get it. There’s lots of video tutorials available online too.
If anyone is stuck for cash and would like a program to get creative I would recomend the Google Picasa program which is a FREE download (I have Picasa 3).
It’s super easy to use -edit, crop, straighten, change size, focus, colours even changing to black and white or sepia for example, you can even add text into an image in any font or colour you like which you can move about to the position and angle you want… to name but a few things you can do.
