Just last night hubby and I were remarking that lately everywhere we go, we’re just "chilled". You know, the AC is just on too high!! Lol, well as you may guess, that just begs for disaster. Sure enough, this morning our central AC died. A true testimony that you just might get what you pray for! I spent all day with the AC man so no card today but last week I promised I would have some blog candy to celebrate my recent milestone. What awesome blog candy. The song Celebration by Cool and the Gang always reminds me of my first dance in 5th grade. It was boys on one wall and girls on the other. I still remember being nervous that somebody might not ask me to dance (they did of course, but you never forget that feeling)! Good luck to your hubby on his surgery. I’ll be praying for him. :)
I have a favorite that makes me get teary-eyed every time I hear it or sing it in church: Great Is Thy Faithfulness. My dad sang it at our wedding; I was standing in the narthex trying hard not to cry and mess up my make-up before he came to the back to walk me down the aisle. I just love my dad and his voice!

Great topic! I have lots of songs that I love, but one that always reminds me of my children when they were really little is “You are my Sunshine”. Makes me want to cry!
“Blue Velvet” has long been a favorite.. I was in junior high school when the song came out.. the school dance is what I associate this song with, but why I remember it most, is that I had a blue velvet dress on that night.. my mom had remade (back in the days of altering clothes to fit younger members of the family) a dress my aunt had outgrown.. that school dance was the only time I got to wear the dress, as I quickly outgrew it myself.. ah the memories!

Thanks for another generous round of blog candy. A favorite song is Always. My parents danced to that at their 25th Anniversary party that my brothers and I had for them. Sadly, my father was ill at the time and passed away five months later. But, the song and memory are happy.

“You are my Sunshine” is a song I always sang to my kids, and now my grandsons. They all are my sunshine, along with my husband. My days would be dark without them.

My favorite is Imagine by Mercy Me. My daughter, Jennifer, and I loved this song. She passed away from Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 28, four years ago. This amazing song was sung at her funeral service. It will always be special to me!

Oh my goodness! How to choose? I have so many favorites. Too many lullabies for my girls come to mind but one favorite was “Hush Little Baby” – the mockingbird song. One daughter is 36 and the other is 24. I can’t sing a lick but that never stopped me signing to my babies. I can still feel them in my arms and smell their sweet smell. Thankyou for the memory!

Nov. 1974 – a Saturday. I was working and was anxiously awaiting news from my Dr. to hear if I was pregnant or not after giving him a urine sample on the Friday. DH left a message for the Dr. to call him at his sister’s house. As luck would have it, the Dr. called while DH was out with his BIL. So, my SIL was the 1st to hear the good news that yes, I was pregnant. When I came home from work, DH was there and shortly after I asked him if I was pregnant, he put on a 45 (remember those?) It was “Having my Baby” as sung by a young Paul Anka. That is how I found out that my suspicions were true. That song still brings back fond memories. My “baby” will be 35 in July and is expecting our 3rd grandchild in Nov. – her 2 other adorable children are Brooke who will be 3 in July and Sierra who will be 5 in June. I can’t wait to meet the newest member of our family whose due date is November 11 – Remembrance Day in Canada.
No surgery is a breeze – I used to be a nurse – I will be keeping your Hubby in my thoughts and prayers.
A song that never fails to bring back a memory for me is “Hey Jude” by the Beatles. For some reason, that song was always the last one played at our school dances…maybe because it was so long and everyone wanted the last dance to last as long as possible. The song for me would be Lean on Me. It’s our high school graduation song. It marked the end of an era for me since I left the country afterwards and came to US for college.

It was our wedding song (I still remember it seemed like it was FOREVER that day as we stood looking at each other) 10 years ago. My hubby has a beautiful voice and is constantly singing. One of his favorites, thus mine, too, is “Amazing Grace.” Of course, I love the song because it does speak of God’s wonderful grace for us sinners, but it has a second meaning to us. We have a developmentally disabled son. He has been in our home since he was 4 and is now 34. He loves Gospel music. He comes running to tell everyone when he hears “Dad’s song!” Often he will be wearing headphones and he’s the only one who can hear it. He thinks we should be able to, also, but we know what he’s hearing: “Amazing Grace!”
Happy Together is a special song for my husband & I– still enjoy hearing it after over 43 years together. My granddaughters also love to play and dance to it. My prayers are with your husband.

My favorite song would have to be “This Christmas” by Donny Hathoway. This song just seems to take me back to childhood. When my mom and dad were together….I love this song!!!!!!
One special song memory is the ABC song. Each time I was pregnant, my husband sang it to my tummy every night. When the babies were not wanting to go to sleep, he sang it to them and it soothed them. A simple song, but a sweet memory for me.
“At Last” by Etta James is one of my favorite songs. People used to ask me if I was too picky when dating….hmmm. I ALWAYS thought that was a silly comment because I think you should be picky if you are looking for the person you want to spend the rest of your life with!!! So my first dance at my wedding, with The Love of My Life, was to “At Last” which I think was appropriate. On the comedic side, my older brother shouted “it’s about time” when the song first started playing…..it was funny!!! I waited 37 years to find MY HONEY!!!
For me, it’s Smokey Robinson’s Being with you- it brings me back to my first job in High School working in a huge toy store called CHILDWORLD. That song play all the time…I made some great friends and had some great times. No Romantic attachments, but I love that song.

Oh wow… I LOVE music, but tying a specific song to a specific memory seems difficult at this moment… gotta get my brain in gear! LOL!! One of the first that comes to mind is the song “Paper Roses”. I sang it in a pageant in college and it does bring back lots of fun memories of preparing for and participating in that pageant. So many friends joined in to help prepare my stage set as well as other friends who formed my little band of musicians making it a wonderful and fun time in my life. And I also have to mention that my mother who was a professional seamstress made my costumes and formal gowns for the event and they were truly works of art. I was so blessed to have such wonderful people in my life.
Prayers definitely going out for your hubby’s cataract surgery! I have a retinal condition called RP and have had cataract surgery in one eye and I totally understand that depending on the person that kind of surgery is not necessarily the “breeze” that it is often thought to be. I wish him the best and a speedy recovery!!!!

A favorite song, geez they are all my favorite. I guess it would have to be “You’re My Soul And Inspiration” by The Righteous Brothers. It was played as the last song of every Blue Inn dance we had on Saturday night when I was in high school. You pretty much knew that if a guy asked you to dance he would be the one walkling you home.

“Silent Night” brings back so many memories. My father was a concert pianist so you can imagine music was and is extremely important at Christmas. The other thing about my father was his dry sense of humour. There were 3 girls in our family so along with my Mom we sang 4 part harmonies on many of the Christmas hymns. One of our best was Silent night. We would get our parts going and would be a bit over confident of our sound and my Dad would get this funny grin on his face and then change the key. We would all scramble for our new note and as soon as we were back on he’d change the key again. Dad has been gone for 12 years now and it’s up to me to play the Hymns, I change the key on them for old time sake but then we all remember Dad and miss him terribly. We all love music what a legacy he left.
“You’ve Still Got That Light In Your Eyes” – by Gerry Rafferty – my husband sang it to me while we were dating. After 27 years, he’s still singing it to me!

Hi Becca – for me the song is “Amazing Grace” which my Grandfather sang in his strong Scottish voice in church choirs and was played at his Funeral as everyone all remembered him singing this song at one place or another. Now there is a modern version out (can’t remember by whom) that is played on acoustic guitar and my eldest song sings and plays it. It’s just beautiful!
My Mum has just had her cataracts operated on and she can’t get over how amazing her vision now is! Blessings to you both.

Well, well……I’m hispanic and there’s a BIG possibility you don’t listen to spanish music, which is the one I mostly listen and dance to. But I do remember, all those years, when my mother used to send me for summer vacations to my favorite aunt’s house in NYC. I remember the BeeGee’s hits, Donna Summer, Madonna, and so on…..I can mention a couple more that I liked, but one that I still love is the Dancing Queen by ABBA. Didn’t it have a beautiful melody?

I think “Butterfly Kisses” is one I think of because it was the song that was played when my daughter and her dad danced at her wedding. There wasn’t a dry eye there…even the men had tears in their eyes.
“Morning Has Broken” sung by Cat Stevens. Whenever we sing this hymn in church it just sound wrong because Cat sang it better! It always brings back special memories of dawn moments outside, when it really is like the first morning.
I think one of my favorite songs is “Will There Be Any Stars in my Crown”, I can’t remember who sang it many years ago but Alison Kraus has it on one of her CD’s now. My father used to enjoy this song many years ago and it brings back memories of him. He has been gone eleven years in July. My, how time flies.

hmmm, favorite songs… I have trouble remembering song titles but glancing thru the notes above, The Rose sung by Bette Midler came to mind. My roomie in college and I used to sing along whenever I played it on cassette tape (back in the day) when we were feeling mellow, or just wanted to sing something we could handle, to some degree, that wouldn’t cause dogs to start howling. : )

As a former 1st grade teacher, it was my tradition to have a power-point presentation of my little students playing when the parents came for Open House. Playing would be the sweetest collection of our daytime activities all set to music…of course, “What a Wonderful World”! There would hardly be a dry eye in the room! From the first day of school, full of all the excitement and fear, to the fun release of recess, we captured it all…and what a wonderful world it was! I have since retired because of health problems, but every time I hear that song, all my precious babies come to mine! How blessed I am to have such priceless memories!

My favorite song is Josh Gruban’s “You Raise Me Up” but the song that brings back a wonderful memory is “Wanted, Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi. We spent a few days playing Rock Band on the Wii with my husband, brother and sister-in-law and niece on our last visit. Just seeing my normally laid back husband jamming out on the drums and actually SINGING makes me laugh now just thinking about it.

‘Fire and Rain’ by James Taylor is one of my favorite oldies … brings back memories of junior high.
The song that brings back memories are many, but the one the mean the most is “Give Me My Flowers it’s by The Consolers” my mother and my cousin sang it at a memorial that was held for my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother. It’s was the first time I heard my mother singing solo, she sang in the church choir but never alone. And I will said a prayer for your husband.
Oh, and I also meant to say – I’m keeping your husband (and you) in my prayers tonight.

A song that always brings a smile to my family’s faces is “You Light Up My Life”, popular when my youngest son was about four. On road trips we all remember him (in the back seat) singing you lite up my life, with long flat iiiii’s. It will always be a special song for us.
First of all praying for your hubby’s surgery…all surgery is a bit nerve wracking, but left in the Lord’s hands, praying for peace for you both. =).
The song that I thought of right away… “Oh What a Beautiful Morning”. I can still see my great aunt playing that on a little record player in her kitchen, while I sat at her kitchen table eating cinnamon graham crackers…just waiting for her famous baked custard to come out of the oven. I love that song to this day, over 50 years later. =)

Becca, thanks for offering up such great blog candy! One of my favourite songs is “Whiter Shade of Pale” by Procol Harum. That is the first slow song I danced to with the love of my love (more than 30 years ago!) We still love that song.

One of my favorite songs when I was in high school was “Once I had a Secret Love”. I would be out in the back yard in the swing singing it at the top of my lungs. Didn’t have many neighbors and that was a good thing. Never had a secret love but have many fond memories of singing that song.

The first song that comes to my mind is… How Great Thou Art. This is my Mothers favorite song. It was sung at my Grandmothers funeral and every time I hear it I think of my Mother and Grandmother with Love. Thank you for a wonderful memory.

I have wonderful memories of being a child and teen…playing that on the piano for my dad..at his (almost nightly) request..
it was HIS favorite song..
It would always start out the same way…
I’d begin playing…
he’d be silent..
listening..
then he’d start humming…
and within the first half page of the sheet music..he’d be standing next to me while i’d play…singing in that beautiful deep voice of his…
years later..when I was in college..he and my mom took a trip to vegas..san francisco and hawaii..
when they were in San Francisco..my dad picked up a music box for me that played “our” song…(I Left My Heart in San Francisco)
I had that music box for more than 30 years ..until it was ruined when we had a flood here in my home, a few years ago…..
my dad died soon after he gave me that music box…
and although he and the music box are no longer part of my life ..in a physical sense…….I am truly blessed…because my dad singing that song, while i played it on the piano…. in his beautiful voice…. will always be in my memory….and in my heart..

I hope your husband does well tomorrow. I have several favorite songs for different reasons, but my favorite song to sing in church is “The Old Rugged Cross.” Oh…it is a strong song! Gives me goose bumps. My favorite movie is Sound of Music, so I’m always singing tunes from that, too.
Oh Becca, this is a good one. The Turtles – “So happy together” brings back the hours my friend Denise and I sat and played this song (and some others) over and over and over again, singing with it at the top of our lungs. It brings back those warm fuzzy feelings whenever I hear it.

Someone mentioned America the Beautiful, which reminded me of God Bless America. I love the fourth of July and love nothing more than hearing Kate Smith sing this song. It brings tears to my eyes listing to her. I have it on vinyl and refuse to give up my turntable.
Unchained Melody by the RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS. memories of my husband and me dating and everytime we hear it we sing to each other. Our daughter is getting married Aug. 13, 2010 and that is the song we picked for our dance.

I am 64 and had been wearing glasses since I was 9—–now I have 20/20, all I need is reading glasses.
Years back I had a hole in the micula and later a tear in the retina and all went well. The LORD is so good.

The first song that comes to my mind is “It’s A Small, Small, World, because of all of the good times my family has had at Disneyland. When I was growing up we lived only 10 miles from Disneyland so I was fortunate to be able to go several times a year. After my kids were born, we would go everytime we returned to So. Cal. to see family and now, my kids are taking their kids. We all get on the Small, Small World ride in Fantasyland, and by the time the ride ends, we are all singing the song and have most of the people all around us singing it too. Good, fun memories. Becca, I am praying for your husband.
The song is “China Grove.” My teenage son was always playing his awful music too loudly and I of course always yelled at him to turn it down. One day I came home to music blaring and started down the hall. He came out of his room, big boots almost tripping over themselves, with a HUGE grin on his face…..BECAUSE the song playing was “China Grove” and he knew I’d not ask him to turn down classic rock.
My son was murdered in November of 2005, so whenever I hear this song on the radio I think of his big boots and his big wonderful smile.
One of my good ole’ days high school faves: Bay City Rollers – Saturday Night. I can still rember chanting “S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y (pause) Night! This was the first concert my parents allowed me to attend. And it was on a Saturday night. Oh my goodness. How excited our group of girls was to go see that group. How funny!

One song that always brings a chuckle from my husband and I is “It’s a Small World”. We had stopped at a restaurant one Sunday afternoon for a quiet dinner without the kids. A few tables over from us was a little girl and she sang this song continuously just about the whole time we were there. So much for a quiet dinner, but she sure was cute.
I’m going to Hire a Wino by David Frizzell……I remember my mom playing this song on the cassette player and her singing her lungs out. This was her favorite song. This was when my mom was the happiest, many, many years ago.

Now, a song that pops to mind is “In the Summertime” by Mungo Jerry – it brings back memories of walking home from the school fete with some girlfriends – we were about 10 years old, and obviously did not listen to the lyrics, but the feeling of the song mirrored how we felt that day, on a cooler summer evening after a scorching day.

Song that always sparks a memory – “Smoke Gets in your Eyes” by
the Platters. The Anglican church used to have a teen dance once a month and that song was always the “last song” of the night. Every time I hear that song I can remember that dance and all the fun we had there.
Please know that your husband is in my prayers many times when I do my prayer journal for the day. Stairway to Heaven is one that gives me tingles every time I hear it because of dancing with my hubby to it many times in HS when we were HS sweethearts. :)

I loved the song Running Bear. Brings back high school memories and me first love. And no…we never went Running Bare!!! He was the man I always wanted, but when I went to college… He went running for another Indian Maid.
My favorite song is Amazing Grace. It was also my husbands favorite. When he passed away I had it played with bagpipes at the cemetery. It was absolutely wonderful and I know that he loved it as well.

My favorite song is “How Great Thou Art” My mom loved that song. She really liked to hear George Beverly Shea sing it. My sister and I would sing with her when she played it on the piano. I love it even more because the song buts into words what I feel so often. It is so pretty outside today.

One of my favorite songs is the old gospel hymn “Precious Memories”. It was my grandmother’s favorite, I can still see her frail little frame sitting on the front porch of her house, in the rocking chair humming this song. When I asked her what it meant to her, she told me of her parents and my grandpa that had gone on to heaven before her. Today, if I hear the song or it comes to mind, I can feel her presence with me. “Precious memories, how they linger, how they ever flood my soul.”
When I was a little girl, my Aunt Josie waltzed me around the living room to the song “I’ll Be Loving You Always”. To this day, whenever I hear that song, it brings tears to my eyes . . . She was my special gal!
What generous candy!! “My Favorite Things” was a song I sang to our dd when she was little. I now sing it to our grandson.

I have SO MANY songs that bring back good ole memories. I am my dad’s caretaker. He is 92 and blind. Been with him since my mom died in 1999. He breaks out into song often. He loves the rhythm on the Jimmy Buffet song – Margaritaville. He has a hard time hearing the words and thinks the verse is “Wish it would rain again in Margaritaville.” :) If you know the song, you probably know the real words. I haven’t corrected him because I think it sounds better with his words. :) This song is special to me now and Forever when I hear the song, it will make me SMILE!!

Okay, my first song is the good night song we used to sing at camp after campfire and before bed. I still tear up when I hear it and still remember it though it was over 20 years ago that I went to that camp! Many wonderful memories of my two week camps at camp Firwood in Bellingham, WA. We had cabins with no power in them and just tarps over the windows and the door, outhouses, walking up trails to get to your cabin and having them be very treacherous when it rained as they turned to mud, seeing squirrels running down the trails with a piece of licorice in their mouths which they had stolen from someone’s stash in their cabin, water fights with the Hobart in the kitchen when it was your cabin’s KP duty, water skiing, skinny dipping on our overnights, growing in my walk with the Lord and many, many more wonderful memories. Where does the time go??!!

It would be BEST OF MY LOVE by The Emotions. I was able to sing it for the first time in a talent competition a few weeks ago, and I had a blast! Just the first beats of the song give me a quick burst of energy. And it was all the more better when I finally got to sing it on stage :D
My favorite piece of music–am listening to it now–is Pachelbel’s Canon in D. It reminds me of my wedding day… and still brings a flush of love to my face and heart each time I hear it. Hi Becca!! Oh, it’s so hard to pick a favourite…I have so many!! Is it acceptable to choose a musical?? I just love Phantom of the Opera, and picking one favourite song is almost impossible! However, if I must I suppose it would be “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again”. Whenever I listen to this music, it takes me back to my sixteenth birthday, when my boyfriend suprised me with tickets to see the Broadway production!! What a sweetheart…that boyfriend is now my husband! We dated through high school and then got married. We’ve been happily married for almost thirteen years now. We still love to put that CD on!

Amazing Grace. It was my oldest daughters and my favorite. She sang it in school at a choir competition. It is a happy and a sad one. We sang it at her funeral 2 years ago but I know every time I am down and I hear that song she is still with me. Making sure I am not spoiling her little boy so much lol.
The first song that popped into my mind was the Barney song, “I love you, you love me …” When my daughter was 2 and 3 she’d watch Barney everyday and when the song came on, she’d sing along as she ran to find me wherever I was to give me the biggest hug she could. She’s now 19 and a junior in college. As much as I love her now, I miss those days of the Barney song.
Hi Becca – I will be saying a prayer tonight and in the morning for good results for the cataract surgery your husband is having. As for a song – I have always loved the song “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton that has been sung also by Whitney Houston in Bodyguard and then as a duet by Dolly and I can’t think right now who sang it with her. It is a bittersweet song of love and losing someone close to you. I absolutely love it and never tire of it.
My favorite song is “Ain’t too Proud to Beg”. I grew up with this and still consider it my theme song! I will have you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow! Please give update as to how things went!
It would be “The bear went over the Mountain” a childs song we use to sing while driving in the country with my daugher. It kept her occupied and she was always lookin gover the next hill for the bear. She got married last year and maybe in a few years We will sing it to her son or daughter.

When we were living in The Netherlands, the military put on a wonderful “American” 4th of July festivities trying to give us a little bit of home with a BBQ, ice cream, watermelon, things for the kids, etc… One of the events we looked forward to each year was watching the fireworks and during the last finale, as all of us watched, tears would flow as they started play “Proud to be an American”. We were so proud to be Americans, that we were representing our country, rejoicing and thanking God for our freedom, and yet so homesick for our families. The first song that came into my mind was The Beer Barrel Polka . We were in Pensacola Florida and my father was home from being overseas and we were all having fun with a picnic at the beach. They kept playing this song over and over and I was so happy as my father was home..he was in the Navy and always gone.
He had me on his shoulders as he took me out into the ocean and was jumping the waves…I was scared but I was with my dad.

wow! talk about memory lane. I’ve been reading all the responses and taking myself back to so many memories. One of my favorite songs is It Is Well (with my soul). It was sung at my dad’s funeral just over 4 years ago. I still can’t hear it or sing it without getting all teared up. But I knew that dad was in heaven so we could truly say it is well with my soul. Still miss him and the past few weeks have been worse than usual. Maybe because of father’s day coming up and a friend of mine losing her mom a few weeks ago.

It might sound kinda weird, but Abracadabra from the Steve Miller Band brings up a lot of memories for me. When I was elementary school age, I did a lot of my school years in Germany because my dad was in the Army. Anyways, my parents always took us ice skating on the weekends and my dad would play the Steve Miller Band. Our favorite song to sing in the car was Abracadabra. Of course, we didn’t understand what the lyrics meant…we just liked saying Abracadabra. :)

My favorite song is “Baby Baby Dont cry” by smokie Robinson. Believe this or not but when I was 14 years old I went on a field trip with the Martin Luthur King Center to NY to Apllo theater were the Miricles were singing, smokie asked some one to come down and sing with him — girl I screamed so loud “I’ll sing with you Smokie” He picked me to sing and girl I knew this song because it was one of the songs my singing group used to sing, I sung the whole sung with him and he looked me in the eye’s as he was singing and I kept up with him cause at 14 I could sing :). When we got done with the duet together he hugged me and kissed me, I do not have to tell you I did not want to wash my face for weeks, and every one on the bus trip couldn’t believe that he chose me out of that whole place.. Baby Baby Don’t Cry, I love that song, and every time I hear it I think of Apollo Theater :)
I love these challenges!! When I was 9 & 10 years old I would catch the bus early in the morning during the summer to go pick strawberries. The bus driver always had the radio on and the one song that I heard many times those summers was “In the Summertime” by Mungo Jerry. When I hear that song now it reminds me of those fun times riding the bus and eating lovely warm strawberries.

Great question – I just heard this song the other day, and floods me with high school memories and drill team – “Grazing in the Grass”. Just a happy song, with fresh cut grass thoughts! One song that brings back fond memories for me is “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”. It played on the wind up “radio” I had when I was little – and I carried that toy everywhere!
When I was in college the words from “Great is Thy Faithfulness” became very real to me. The phrase… “strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow” gave me courage to face growing up and dealing with junk from my childhood. 20 years ago we sang that hymn during my wedding. Not the most traditional… but I love that promise. It is just as true today as it was then!

My song would be Somewhere Over The Rainbow, the hawaiian Israel Kamakawiwo’ole version…. every time I hear this song it makes me think of my dear grandmother who sadly has passed away but when I hear it I feel like she is somewhere just over the rainbow & always with me. When I was in high school, for some strange reason every time I drove somewhere I would sing “When I Fall In Love”, and it goes on to say, “It will be forever”. That turned out to be true because when I met my husband, I fell in love at first sight and married him just 2 months later. That was 41 years ago, and we are still together. My Mother took the whole family on a cruise some years ago, and our grown daughter, Beth, sang that song when they had talent night, and then she had another participant sing his song, My Girl, while she danced with her Daddy. It was quite a night. I thought it was really neat that she sang my old song.

I have so many songs I love. One of my favorites is In The Garden. I loved all the Motown records in the 60’s and Led Zepplin. Love ” I Heard It Through The Grapevine”. by Gladys Knight and I love “Stairway To Heaven” from Zepplin. I like the Big Band music. I grew up listening to it since my parents loved it. Then one of my all time favorite bands is The Platters. Even though I was a small child when they were big I know all of their songs. Just a lot of great music to choose from.
One of my favorite songs is “We Will Glorify” by Twila Paris. We had that song sung at our wedding, and it’s such a wonderful reminder of our purpose in life, which is to glorify (worship) God in everything we do.

The song from my earliest memory would be “An Irish Lullaby”. Both of my parents sang this song to us, and I then sang it to our children.

The song that sticks in my head is “Oklahoma”. When I was young, I belonged to the local 4-H club and each year we would participate in a county wide talent show. The winner at the county fair would them go to the state fair in Springfield, IL and represent the county. At the state fair you were judged and received ribbons. One year our group did the musical Oklahoma and won the right to represent our county and also received a blue ribbon at state. It was such a big deal to us. We learned the song “Oklahoma” and it remains with me. I often sing it to my youngest grandson who is 8 mos. I figure it offers a change from the farmer in the dell and old macdonald. : )
Your contests have to be the most fun to enter. All the nostalgia/memories just came flooding back and I got to reflect on some precious long forgotten moments. So my favorite song is “Summer Place” by Percy Faith. Young innocent love, slow dancing, crinolines, poodle skirts & bobby socks, 45 RPMs……a wonderful era. Now it’s the gray hairs, wrinkles and aches and pains but the memories sustain me and the Lord has been good. May he bless your husband with a healthy and speedy recovery.

Song – Bye Bye American Pie
I can still sing ALL the words to this song whenever it comes on (and now my kids can pretty much sing most of it too). I received this song on a 45 as a birthday present at a party for my birthday in sixth grade. I only had a couple of birthday parties (not counting my family) when I was growing up. One was a sleepover for my birthday in 6th grade and the other was a surprise Sweet Sixteen birthday that my boyfriend helped orchestrate.
whenever i must pick a fav song it takes me back to Olivia Newton J and John Travalto with Grease lightning, dont know why it just stuck in my head. its so vibrant and let me think of us being young, skinny and full of energy.

Hi Becca! My favorite song that has to do with memories is “what a wonderful world” sung by Louis Armstong. I don’t have a particular memory to go with this song, rather a whole range of “snapshots” and feelings that run through my mind when I hear (or hum) this song. A lot of them have to do with the beauty of nature, the wonder of living in this world and the absolute awe I feel watching my grandchildren grow.
It never fails to lift my spirit on a difficult day and renew my faith that everything always works out for the best.

Hubby and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in January. The time goes by so fast. Our first dance at our wedding reception was a song by Chicago “Your the Inspiration”. We so loved the words and just fit us both to a “T”. We are so lucky that our song is still played over the airways today.. Keeps the song fresh in our minds.

Oh Becca, this is so much fun!! Isn’t it funny how we can be driving down the road, a song will come on the radio, and with a snap of the finger, we step back in time to a moment that we have etched in our brains! It becomes so clear, we can almost smell the air we were breathing! My Mom used to have an old victrola that played the 78rpm records. There was a playroom in the cellar. My brothers and I would crank it up and play “Buttons and Bows” and dance till we collapsed laughing on the floor. 1957, it was her favorite song.

So many songs, so many memories. But, here is the first one that popped into my head, Close To You by the Carpenters. Funny, but I actually sang it to a dog,….my best friend’s, brother’s dog. I was able to take it out, alone, to a nearby undeveloped land area. We would play pretend and explore together. Her name was Glory; and, I LOVED her so much. :) When my second son was born, it became his song,….I do not know why but it became the song that I always sang to him to sleep.

Many of the songs that bring back memories are from when I met my husband. Carribean Queen is one of my favorites that reminds me of the night we met, out dancing, and was one of the first songs we danced to. We’ll celebrate our 25th anniversary this summer with a vow renewal and reception and will, of course, be playing all the old songs we danced to when we met and many other favorites from over the years. I do join with you in prayer for your husband. It’s an honor to share your life in this way.

One of my fave songs is that I am not sure of the title is called (I think) Touch Me Once. It was a song played in the movie Pretty In Pink (when I was in high school in the 80’s). The movie was a rich boy meets a poor girl & they try to fall in love but everyone keeps trying to talk them out of it & eventually they do what they think is right & go ahead & fall in love. Seals & Crofts “Get Closer”. It was the first time a boy had ask me to dance at a school dance.
Eric Clapton’s “You look wonderful tonight” is my favorite all time song. My parents used to have dance parties and I was the DJ, I played it and Dr. Hook’s “Just a little bit more” every other song. They are still slow dancing 40 years later and it makes me happy to think of their undying love every time I hear either of these songs.
A favourite song…hmmmm…..I guess it would have to be ‘Longer Then”….my DH and I chose that as our first dance at our wedding. We are still going strong 27 yrs. later.
My fav song is one my dad sang to me when we were in the boat fishing with my mom and brother. It was something about a bumble bee sitting on his knee (not the one about squashing it).

My favourite song/s are the ones from Michael Jackson. I was in my teens when his Bad CD came out, so between lessons, at school, I would crack all my classroom by joining a couple of tables, get up on them and imitate his dance movements…and sing… till a teacher caught me in the act!!! LOL
One of my favorite songs is “”Swiftly We’re Turning Life’s Daily Pages”. I remember sitting with my grandparents in church when we visited them and hearing them sing out. My grandpa didn’t realize just how loudly he was singing, but to me it was the sweetest sound and a treasured memory today!
“Happy Together” by the Turtles was the song my husband and I chose to be our song while dating in highschool. Now 40 years later I guess we still are!

Oh,my, there are so many. Well, “September” by Kool and the Gang as that song makes me want to dance like I did “back when.” Also, my son (now 21 and off in college) used to sing me the theme to “Aladdin” – “A Whole New World” on while playing it on his little cassette recorder. Cassette Recorder? What is that? Anyway, those two songs elicit different, but heartwarming responses.
I have said a prayer for your husband. My son who was only 40 when he had his cateract surgery has compromised health also and we were all worried. Well we got an answer to prayer and he flew through surgery on both eyes at different time. I wish you both the best. I love all your artistic creations.
My mother died at the young age of 39. It was in January 1960, I was in the 6th grade. The next year our Chorus teacher was putting 2 songs together, one of the songs was Sweet Chariot. When it came to the part “I’ve never been to heaven, but I’ve been told that the streets are paved with gold” I broke down and cried. They escorted me out of the room and sent me to the Nurses Office until I stopped crying. That song made me think about my beautiful Mother who had passed on to heaven. No she wasn’t my Mother by birth, but thank God that they wanted me. She was such a beautiful person and made me what I am today.
One of my favorite songs is “Does Jesus care.” My niece sang it at my mother in law’s funeral and the words to the final verse speak about Jesus caring when you’ve said goodbye to the dearest on earth to you. Oh yes, He cares, I know He cares. His heart is touched with my grief. These words spoke to me again this December when my dear mother passed away. Just knowing that Jesus cares, gives us hope to go on.

My husband and I renewed our wedding vows in 1999, with all of our children as our attendants. Our service was very spiritual, based on all of the trials we had come through as a blended family. Friends of ours played cello and sang “Only God Could Love You More”. There wasn’t a dry eye in the church at the end of our vows . . . When I was little, my family went to a Christian family camp in western NY. We had a special service for the smaller children during the adult service in the morning. One of my favorite songs was “How Great Thou Art.” I used to be fascinated by the stars at night, the vastness of the water, we were on Lake Ontario and that is a big body of water when you are 5 yrs old.

“sky high” brings back almost a pavlovian response for me. as a senior in high school when i would hear that song i would do 50 sit-ups. i would try to do them faster and faster and judge it from where i finished by what lyric was being sung. after about 3 months of being a popular song i lost about 3 inches on my waist. never could get as small as dolly parton … never thought i would. :)

Mine is “When a man loves a woman” this is the fiurst song my husband & I danced to when we were dating and it makes me feel wonderful every time I hear it knowing how lucky I am that God has graced me with him. I will say a prayer for your husband also. My husband just went through double catarac surgery and first time since he was 7 is glasses free. Don’t worry everything will be fine, Kurt had his surgery and is a high risk patient with his heart problems.

OK, my song is “The Big Rock Candy Mountain” – from the movie “Oh Brother Where Art Thou”. During this time is when my mother was dealing with ALZ – and she loved this song – she’d sing it, never missing a word (though she did not remember alot of other things) and she’d go and hit on the CD player to let us know that she wanted it on. She’s sing and clap as the song played, and I would also sing with her. Then the last time I visited her in the nursing home, they were playing this for them – and she looked better than the time before that I saw her. She was singing and clapping – and as I left, I told her I had to leave, but when I came back to visit her, I’d bring her back the BIG ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN. She clapped with excitement as a little child – showing how excited she was that I’d bring her the big rock candy mountain. And when I went back, it was to visit her in the hospital – and I took her one of those “rock candy suckers” and laid it on her pillow, though it was a week before she woke up. Though my mom was not the same person with the the ALZ taking over her mind, body, and soul – the kid in her was always showing excitemet over anything you wanted to give her. Though this could be a bad memory for most, I prayed my mother would not be like a vegetable the next time I saw her and I discussed this drug with the nurse, who stated they’d discuss it with the doctor and try to give it to her once a day, instead of twice a day. So the time I saw her enjoying this song, it was the first time seeing her after I discussed this with the nurse (because my mom was like a vegetable sitting there with her head leaned over). GOD blessed me that day, and I saw my mom enjoying herself to the fullest again, though she did not know us. During her funeral weeks later, we did have “I’ll Fly Away” sang at her funeral – this was another song on this CD of Oh Brother Where Art Thou. She loved all the song on this CD. It was sure a good memory that GOD blessed me to show me that HE was still with me, and my mom, and HE gave her back to me for a time, before taking her home to her new mansion with HIM.
Hmm, a song….you’re really making us think Becca. I grew up in a rather musical family. Played the organ, sang, etc. I love the oldies. I remember playing “Silver Threads Among the Gold” on the organ because my Mom and Dad loved it. I often think, now that they’re both gone, how I loved playing meaningful songs from their youth for them. “Blue Moon” was another one.

This sounds fun. My song is “I do not want to miss a thing” By Aerosmith. This song was popular when I met my husband 12 Years ago in the Middle East. I was visiting family and I met him. As soon as I met him I knew he was the one I was going to marry. We only had 2 weeks together then I was coming back home. The song says “I do not want to close my eyes because I do not want to miss a thing” I only had 2 weeks with him. We are now married with 3 beautiful girls. I have a newborn, and now I do not want to close my eyes because they grow up so quickly and I do not want to miss a moment with them. My kids are so special and precious to me, it is so easy to miss a moment if we just blink. Also with a blink of an eye they will be grown and on their own, so I want to cherish every moment. This is why the song is so special to me. Hugs.
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star… I sang this many times to my girls when they were little. Now I am 66 and going to be a grandmother for the first time. I think the name of the song is “Oh Evaline” – really old one! My Dad taught it to me and 2 girlfriends when we were teenagers. We sang it as a trio – great harmony. We recently celebrated his 97th birthday and one of the girlfriends came by – he requested we sing that song for him. What a great memory!

But once the loom is silent, our life done, the full glory and beauty is seen with the threads of dark and gold woven together by the Master’s Hand. My good friend used to sing this song when we were part of a gospel singing group – I love it still.

The first song that came to mind was Sweet Home Alabama by Lynard Skynyrd. I went to a Christian boarding school for high school and that “kind” of music did not “pass” and was not allowed. I remember my roommate & best friend listening to that song while playing backgammon and also trying not to get caught. That song to this day is one of my favorites. “You are my Sunshine” one of my fave’s because a little over 21 years ago the Lord blessed me with a beautiful daughter, it had been 13 and 10 years since I had my precious sons. Well, she was always a cuddler and like her back rubbed every night after prayers and this is when I had my chance to sing her this song.
She is still “Sunshine” in our lives!

The song “I’ll Fly Away” is a favorite of mine. It reminds me of my former pastor who always said there should be another verse. It just wasn’t enough–he wanted to keep singing.
My favorite song is “Mockingbird Hill”. When I was little I would accompany my grandfather when he went to the bread plant to get bread for his neighborhood store. The plant was located on Mockingbird Lane and everytime we turned onto that street we would sing and he would whistle “Mockingbird Hill”. I was Granddaddy’s girl and everytime I hear that song, which is not very often, I smile and think of him.
As an avid music lover I have a 101 songs that I love for 101 reasons but the one I think sticks out the most is “The Kid Is Hot Tonight” by The Cars. In high school I was part of a group of 6 very close friends and we went out on saturday night to hear the same band at the same club play the same songs from The Cars, VanHallen, etc. It was a wonderful time in my life and the freindships are still as close today as they were then. I miss those days went things were simple and uncomplicated.

I have a really old song that brings back memories of my Dad. It is one he always whistled and it is “In The Pines”. I think if any of us kids heard that song we would automatically think of Daddy and see him walking around whistling it no matter what he was doing.

I pray your husband’s surgery goes smoothly. My favorite song is Endless Love by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross. We had it sung at our wedding 29 years ago. One of my favorite Christian songs is He Keeps Me Singing, an oldie but goodie.
Oh, Becca, my favorite has to be a beautiful hymn called In the Garden. Everytime I hear it, it lifts me up and reminds me that He is always there with me, and that I can walk and talk with Him whenever I want to. It was also my grandmothers and my dads favorite. So it always reminds me of those who have passed from my life for now. I have to admit that it always brings tears to my eyes.

Thanks so much for the time spent down memory lane. I had to wait a bit to think of just “one” song that took me where I enjoyed life the most. I love music so that was very hard! But after much deliberation the answer is “After Midnight” by Keiko Matsuoi. A soothing jazz that brings back even the smells of the beach, the laughs of kids on the playground, just everything.
Love your work, have been following you for a while, really appreciate all your inspiration. Prayers have been said for both you and your husband, and the surgeon. The spouse often needs more prayers than the operatee, and of course the Great Physician needs to be in control of guiding the hands of the human one.

“Dwelling in Beulah Land” is one song that brings back memories. It is an old hymn, but anytime I think of it, hear it, sing it at church, I am reminded of a family vacation to upstate PA when I was a child. We were driving thru a forested area, I believe on dirt roads, looking for wildlife. The name of the area was Beulah Land. It was so beautiful with the sunshine breaking thru the forested area, so tranquil.

My next favorite song that brings back memories is “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Elivs. Besides being a BIG Elvis fan, when I’m feeling troubled I listen to that song to remind myself that I’m not alone and God is with me in troubling times.

How much fun is this I can’t wait Becca you are always so creative I will say a prayer for your hubby I work in surgery center where we do cataract surgery. It is a very simple surgery for the surgeon but I understand the patient’s view you are working on his eye. I have faith he will do well.

I have so many “favorite” songs, but one of mine is by Norman Greenbaum that came out in 1970 (yes I am that old lol). It is “Spirit in the Sky” It is sort of a rock n roll spiritual and I especially love the line “gonna raise me up to the spirit in the sky!” It is very uplifting to me.
Day Two Song: Is a song written by a friend of mine. It’s call Pressing On and calls us to press on to the high calling in Christ. Every time I listen to her CD I have amazing memories of my days at University, from the pranks we pulled, to the dreaded finals week, to wonderful times making new friends, the fabulous Christian group on Campus I attended, great walks up Seahome Hill and walks to Old Fairhaven for THE best cinnamon buns, and the fabulous friends I made and still keep in touch with. I could type for ours about those years :D
I know this will sound funny that it brings a good memory but “All out of Love” by Air Supply. My now hubby and I had broken up (things were going a bit fast for me) and he wrote this too me after a while, and we ended up getting back together, we have been married for 26 years so it brings a wonderful memory for me :)

As a child, I spent a lot of time at my grandmother’s house during the day. She played the piano by ear and many days we would have her play the piano and we sang to the top of our lungs. She always ended with her favorite song, The Old Rugged Cross. I still love that song. She died 29 yrs ago, 5 weeks after my youngest son was born.
As a teen, when I was dating my husband, Diamond Girl was a favorite. I have pale blue eyes and he said that song reminded him of my eyes. We have been married 34 yrs now and he still comments on the color of my eyes.

On to the song that brings back memories….I’m going WAY back to Paul Revere and the Raiders. The song is Indian Reservation. My sisters and I did this big performance for my parents WAY back then. We made our guitars from wood and cardboard and strung them with rubberbands. We made a stage with curtain to perform on and we had the time of our lives. I’m showing my age now because this happened back in the sixties.
I think my favorite song that brings back a memory is “Remember When” by Alan Jackson. It was played at my prom the year I was in America, and that night was amazing, just spending time with all my new friends and feeling cinderella pretty in my princess dress.. I really wish I could have relived that day!

Will keep your hubby in my prayers. I had to have cataract surgery a few years ago, and what they didn’t tell me was that my eye would feel like there was some sand in it. They only said it would hurt, which to me meant either something like a stabbing pain or maybe a dull ache, not something as simple as “sand” in my eyes!! Anyway, it went away by the end of the day. The hard part was keeping my eye open when I saw needles and things coming at it — very tricky!! There’s a natural impulse to get some “shut eye” right about then!!

My newest new favorite song is Hallelujah by kd Lang that she sung at the Olympic opening ceremonies. I love the sound of her voice, it is so rich. I didn’t understand the symbolism of the song until I looked up the Leonard Cohen poem it comes from. I could listen to this all day.

After days together in the car, I was a bit “testy”, so I announced that “No one can sing another song unless you know ALL the words”. The words were barely out of my mouth when my youngest began singing “A B C D”. His siblings joined in and before we got to Q everyone in the car was singing. We still laugh whenever anyone sings that song.

A song that brings back memories – “Leap of Faith” by Lionel Cartwright; I had it played unbeknown to EVERYONE at our wedding right b4 I walked down the aisle to marry the love of my life! Everyone else was in place; he was looking down the aisle towards me, there I stood and the song began to play – gives me goosebumps 18 years later!
To this day, Somewhere over the Rainbow is at the top of my memory list. It brings hope – something that we always need, but sometimes we need it more than at other times. I’ve sung this song to myself often…

Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” is a great song. My daughter teaches music for 4th and 5th grades and her students sang that song at a concert and everyone was touched – standing ovation.
I think I missed the first word this morning; I just forgot to look before we left for the hospital. But I love the word this afternoon.

I have a few favorite songs but the one that come to mind is…… Color My World by Chicago.
My Sweetheart use to play music and I always hated when he played this song because I always wanted to dance with him.
I recently had a dream that was the most real dream that I ever had.
My Sweetheart and I were dancing to this song.
I could feel the crispness of his shirt, I could smell his smell, I could feel his arms around me.
There were so many people ( family members that had passed) were there, standing all around.
But you see he had passed away on Halloween day 2007.
My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your Sweetheart.

One of my most favorite songs is Maggie May. Rod Stewart is my favorite singer and that song takes me back to when I was quite young.
My most favorite song is Amazing Grace. When I played the bagpipes, I use to play it for my mom all the time. And although sad, we sang it at the funerals of those I miss so dearly which brings back wonderful memories.

Day 2 song: this is a fairly new favorite for me called Follow Love by FFH. The song talks about moving on from things you’ve known and loved but that it’s time, I have to go. It really “speaks” to me because we’ve got our house up for sale and it’s time for us to move on. I will miss this place, we’ve been here 10 years. It’s the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere.

I have two songs the first is by Anne Murray – “You Needed Me” which was my husband and my song while dating, he doesn’t remember this of course but when he came into my life he was exactly what I needed, the words to the song explain everything (tears in my eyes) and then when I was hoping he would ask me to marry him my favorite song was by Neil Diamond “Marry Me” I think I played it 100 times, it worked, he did ask and we’ve been together 23 years and I still get tears in my eyes when I think of these two songs.

As for my favorite song, I guess I’ll try to write one in each time I comment, since I have so many. After reading through all of the other comments, I must agree that Amazaing Grace is an all-time favorite of mine as well. The words speak to so many in so many different ways. It’s timeless and says everything that needs to be said about those of us who are saved by Hisgrace.
One song that come to mind is Let just kiss and say good bye by the Manhatten it is a fun memory because my brother was in a school that year and won the contest singing that song and I was happy for him to win the prize.
“How Great Thou Art” has to be my favorite and most memorable song…it was my mother’s favorite too! My father, my brothers and I sang it at her funeral-it was so beautiful! Even though we all had tears running down our faces, we sang out hearts out!

Saying a prayer for your hubby. My husband actually had to get the same surgery 2 1/2 yrs ago at 30 yrs old. Image our surprise! But Praise God everything is well and he can finally see clear. I do warn you that your hubby will kind of a “cat eye” you know that glare that happens w/Cats that is because of replacement of the lens. It funny to see people say HUH when they first catch the glare :)

Lay down Sally – My name is Sallie and it came out when I was in high school. It was difficult to walk the halls without some guy singing it and my cheeks turning bright red.
Becca, what a treasure trove of “Candy.” I have lots of favorite songs.
One that I love is by Bing Crosby. Although I thought I had heard all his songs, it wasn’t until I saw the movie “The Lady in White” did I realize I had never heard this one. It’s called “Have You Ever Seen A Dream Walking.” It was played thoroughout the movie and I just fell in love with it.
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from Wizard of Oz – I saw a documentary on Judy Garland, and they showed a clip of her singing this on her television program. She was dressed as a hobo, in rags with a dirty face, and it changed the song from a young girl’s wish to the desparate separation between the down-trodden and disenfranchised and the rest of us. From the hobo’s point of view, WE are “over the rainbow” in terms of the hobo’s ability to have a good life. Really made me think, and the performance had tears running down my face.

Well, I could choose from a zillion Hymns and Choruses from church. But, I will choose the song, BECAUSE HE LIVES! It brings back memories of my childhood, singing around the piano as my mother played with my siblings and myself. Whether it be in practicing or in singing in church. My mom raised 4 children alone and there were many days for her I’m sure that were trying. But also for us as children, things were difficult on a different level. Singing that song through the hard times only reminded us that Gods’ hand was upon us and there was nothing to worry about. He would provide! And He did!!! Not only the everyday needs, but even the little prayers of a young child. One prayer? I had been gone awhile and came home and my kitty hadn’t been seen. I cried and prayed he’d come home and sure enough, he did! To many that may seem trivial, but to a child, it was everything!

Believe it or not, the one song that stands out in my mind is “How Much is that Doggie in the Window.” My dad use to sing this song to be when I was very young while sitting on his lap.
So glad to hear that your husband made out well with his cataract surgery. You two are an amazing couple. Even though I have never met either of you, it is very obvious that you are truly in love.
Dearest Becca, my favorite song has been and most likey will always be “Amazing Grace”. I had all was loved it when I heard my great-grandmother humming or singing it. Later it took on even more meaning to me when my cousin (just 7 days older than me and my very best friend in the whole world) at age 15 found out he had cancer and was going to die. He simply said “If that is God’s will so be it.” He never in the next serveral mouths lost faith and loved God with the same un-dieing faith. “Amazing Grace” was both of our favorite songs: and even 41 years later I still can feel my cousin’s love for God and God’s love for us when I hear this amazing song.
I can’t sing worth a hoot; but try and stop me from singing “Amazing Grace”. I even run it through my head every day especailly when I see a beautiful sunset, sunrise, rain strom anywhere God’s had has touched. It’s even how I run across your blog.

Today I have to choose a song that reminds me of my wonder father. My dad was a minister and his favorite song was the old hymn “Victory in Jesus”. I remember as a little girl in Sunday School hearing a story about a chicken that gave her life for her chicks during a prairie fire by calling them to her and hiding them under her wings. It gives such a clear picture of what our Saviour did for us!
I love music and enjoy many different types but will limit myself to sharing just one. Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up. I am going to have to play it right now, just thinking about it. There is no specific memory associated with it just that general time period that was so exciting for me. It was (and is) a great song to dance or exercise to.

Not really a ‘song’ as such. But one that has very deep meaning is The Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra in C major K299 by Mozart. It’s the first piece my father played as the pricipal flute for a major orchestra. It was also one of the last he performed prior to going into the army when he was later killed in action during the battle of the bulge in WWII. I was just a very small child but the piece is still deep in my memory banks.

When I was very young, I fell in love with a handsome fella. I was all of 6 and he was a younger (much-lol) man of about 4. Go figure-lol!! He (and his family, duh) moved away and I remember crying to the song ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane’, crying cos he was leaving, crying over him. I saw him years later when my brother and I visited his family and I don’t think he even remembered me-lol. Unrequited love at such a tender age… :)
Of course, there are several, several songs that come to mind, but I chose this one – with this story – because I think it is one of the first recollections I can make with song & story. Mind you, I do recall the theme song from the old 1962 TV western High Chapporal. I was all of 3 and nuts about westerns, horses and cowboys.

My Mom had a quadruple bypass and it was touch and go for a long time, but when she was in the clear, I bought her some dancing flowers that played that song. When I hear it, I am immediately transported back to this honky tonk in Tucson, Arizona where I first learned to 2-step and where I first danced with my soon to be husband (we just celebrated our 29 year anniversary). Anyway, favorite old song and memory? There are just so many!! I think I’d have to say Agnes Dei by Third Day because it was the first Christian song that caught my son’s rock and roll ear and turned him on to the possibility that music could have a positive message and still sound cool! He first heard it at the Methodist summer camp I had sent him to that year. I also believe this summer camp experience was one of the things that has helped him to develop a firm faith even if he has had some trials along the way. God is good!!
Prayers for you and your husband, too! Both of my parents had this surgery and never wore eyeglasses again afterwards. My mother had worn thick glasses from the age of 2!! I pray that it all goes well for hubby and that God gives you peace during the procedure.

Old songs from Air Supply. I used to have to take my little sister cruising town with me, (mom felt I would be out of trouble with her with me), and we would play Air Supply 8-tracks. When she grew up, her friends wondered how she knew the words to songs that were a little before her time!

My favorite song is “Blessed Assurance”. This always brings back to memory my wonderful Mom who went to be with the Lord last May at the age of 94. As she was so sick and didn’t respond to any of us, she lay there singing “Blessed Assurance” and never missed a word.

My favourite song is Leaving on a Jet Plane. It takes me back to my first teenage love. I was traumatized when my mom told me we were moving as I realized I would have to leave my first love and I would probably never see him again. My friends had a farewell party for me and this was the song my boyfriend and I danced to for the last time. He also sang to me when he came to see me off on my last day. I think you always remember your first love and the things that made you happy/sad.
The song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from Titanic, it reminds me of when my Grandson was 4yrs old. We were on holiday and he stood in front of all the holidaymakers and sung it perfectly. People were in tears listening to him. I was too because he was recovering from his second heart operation. He is 15 now and plays football for his school and county. The song still gives me goosebumps as it reminds me that my prayers were answered and my lovely grandson was saved by those operations.

Many songs remind me of my dear Grandma (Oma) who passed away a year ago. She lived with my family all through our childhood. She used to sing ABBA songs and also the English song “lavender Blue” but a half Dutch/half English version! Even when her dementia was severe she still recognised classical music – the name and the composer.

Re favourite songs, Puppy Love holds a very soft spot in my husband and my hearts. We started going out together when we were just 14 years old and Donny Osmond was in the charts with this song. Most people didn’t give us much hope for a long relationship, but we are happily married for 33 yrs and still going strong!!

I love hearing any of the Beatles’s songs from the White Album because it brings back memories of when my DH and I were dating and listening to those songs on his 8 track in his Mustang. We’ll be married 40 years this year!

Let’s see one of my favorite songs is In the Wet by Rolph Harris. I know, I am probably only one of the few who love his music. I used to spend hours singing and dancing around the living room with my mom.
My fiance & I started dating & listened to Alicia Keys when she was first starting out…. any Alicia Keys song reminds me of the beginning of our relationship & makes me happy :) Glad to hear your husband is doing good.
You Lift Me Up by Josh Groban. It reminds me of the strength of the Lord. I also got to see Josh in concert so I love anything he sings!! He could sing the phone book & I would enjoy it!
“Baby Come Back” by Player, the memory is when our first daughter was born she was very colicky and my dh would rock Amy cradled in his arms to that song and it would soothe her. She loves that song today and you can find it on her ipod. That was 32 years ago!
My favorite all time song is “Somewhere over the Rainbow” by Eva Cassidy. The first line of this song is printed on my guest bedroom wall as a reminder that no matter what the world throws at you, somewhere skies are blue.
Another favorite song that brings back fond memories is ‘Little Drummer Boy’. My parents had Andy Williams Christmas album and they would put the album on when we kids went to bed. This remains one of my favorite Christmas albums.
One of my favorite songs is a song I don’t even know the name of but it reminds me of my Mom & brings back some wonderful memories w/my children. It starts A your adorable, & continues through the alphabet. She used to sing it to me & my children & I in turn sang it to my children.
Well tonight I’ll go with DEEP PURPLE. When I was in high school, I had a great male friend, who was like a brother. On our way home from school(yes we walked) we would often stop at a little cafe and he would put a nickle in the jukebox and play my favorite song—DEEP PURPLE. I still have alot of joy when I hear it now.

Definately “I Can’t Fight This Feeling” – oldie but goodie. It was the song for me and my high school sweetheart, who is now my husband of 15 years!
Amaze by lonestar reminds me of my wedding day. DH and I danced to it, it had just come out and it summed everything so nicely. Everytime I hear it I think of the wedding and what a great day it was.
Why Lady Why by Alabama reminds me of when hubby and I were dating. A friend who taught western dancing had taught me to two-step and I had learned to two-step slow, to Why Lady Why and really really fast to Gloria. And, yes, you really can two-step to both of those songs, LOL.

But this song come on the radio, well, he had to laugh. He told me, that yes, it was his fault for driving too fast and God used this song to remind him to cool off, and slow down, and it is a wonderful world.

Becca, so very, very glad that hubby’s cataract surgery went well! I was sitting here thinking of songs when right outside my window some sort of new critter started sounding off. He (has to be a guy right?) sounds like the start of some really obnoxious car alarm! NAhhhhAA, then he waits till you almost think, oh he’s done, then off goes another bleat. About 15 seconds in between. Now, normally the song of nature is one of my favorites, but NOT just at the moment!

my favorite song that has a memory is can I have this dance from anne murray . my mom would make me sing it to her when i was a child and on her death bed I was talking to her and when she was nearly at her end I played with her hair and sang it to her. It always makes me cry thinking about the last time I sang it to her, and how I took comfort in it that her family was there when she went peacefully home to god . making me cry right now actually . I miss her but I love that song and it brings me peace everytime I hear it :)

Right before coming to your Blog, I was viewing some new photos of my grandchildren. When I was thinking of a song and a memory, the first one that came to mind is “Come and Play”, a song from a Sesame Street record album that I played over and over for my daughter. I would get down on my knees and hold my arms out. The song would start, “Come and play, happy day…” and my little daughter would come running into my arms. I can still hear her giggle. It seems like yesterday and now she has two little ones of her own. What blessings! I will certainly keep your dear husband in my prayers. God has given him such a blessing to have an “angel” wife like you. I know He will continue to keep him in His care.

Song, well its Happy Birthday, but what I loved is because its really not that easy of a song for a lot of people to sing …where i use to work we would always sing HB to that special person but the twist was to use your worse voice and believe me some of us did not have to try at it LOL what I liked is that EVERYONE sang and did not feel threatened they wouldnt sound good. Great memories were made and good times were had and for sure a happy day and lots of laughs.
The songs from Lost Horizon. When the two boys I babysat would go to bed, I would listen to the album and enjoy the quiet. They were great kids and were fun but tiring after hours of playing.
LOL, you come up with the greatest questions!! The song I have great memories of is Rockin’ Robin! My little sister’s name was Robin and I can remember riding my bike with her sitting on the handle bars and us just singing that song. I lost her unexpectedly 10 years ago (she was only 31) and I miss her so. I still love to hear that song and smile at the memories of the wonderful times we had. One of my true favorite songs is “Landslide” sung by Stevie Nicks. The memories of this song go way back to when I was first introduced to Fleetwood Mac and had a date with that first love. As I’ve moved through life, I relate to how we all go through “seasons” of our life. It is through those seasons that we grow as individuals.

I have been dancing since I was 3 yrs old so music has played a huge part in my life. Thru the years there have been so many songs that spark many memories. But I have to say there is nothing greater then watching your children having children of there own. So I have to say, my favorite song is “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw. The first time I heard that song I instantly thought of my son and the love he has for his little girl and vise versa. Every time I hear it, it brings tears to my eyes and warms my heart.

One song that will always bring back memories for me is “Lean on me”, since I sang it to my husband the night we met while we danced, and he has always remembered it. I’ve always loved that song.

This is the first song my husband and I ever danced to in college at a Frat party and we just Celebrated our 20th year anniversary on April 28th. Every time I hear that song it takes me way back to some wonderful memories my husband and college!

One of my all time favorite memories whenever I hear the song Under the Boardwalk by the Drifters is remembering my Dad singing it and dancing around the house then grabbing my Mom and dancing and singing some more. Dad stops whatever he is doing and sings along with that song, smiling the whole time. I don’t know what the meaning is for him, but for me, it’s all about happy memories of him and Mom dancing around the house.

one of my favorite songs is “when you taught me how to dance” from Miss Potter. My sister and brother and law used that song for the first dance at their wedding, so I always have happy memories when I hear it.
Glad to hear the Surgery went well. An old song that is sung only once a year brings back many memories for me. Every New Years Eve when I was growing up, my Mum and Dad held a New Years Eve party and it was huge! Being Church Youth Group Leaders as well as coming from big families, it was great fun. When the clock struck midnight we all used to sing Old Lang Syne (not sure of the spelling) and even though I would often be half asleep, I can still picture the faces of my aunts and uncles as they sang it out.
I love the song Love Me Tender. We don’t show enough brotherly love in the world. But all the crafters I have met are wonderful.

You should have made this one a week long – there are so many songs and not enough days! I think today I’ll tell about two that go together Spirit in the Sky and Sweet Caroline. When I was in nursing school we had to get from our school to the State Psychiatric Hospital where we were going to stay for 6 weeks. It was about a 45 minute drive and very few of us had cars. A male student in my class, Harry, drove a whole carload of us girls and blasted the radio all of the way there – with everyone singing the entire time. These two songs have always stuck in my mind and I can still hear us all singing them. We were so young and scared of what was to come – it helped us face the day.
“Amazed” by Lonestar, this is exactly how I feel about my husband. He is Amazing and I love him more and more each day. After almost 30 years he still gives me chills when I am with him. It brings back memories of the times we have had together and what is yet to come.

It’s a song that will just make me cry! My mother used to sing that song in church and she had such a beautiful voice! She had MS and in the latter stages she could barely talk let alone sing and I’ve missed hearing her sing that so much!! She passed away 10 tens ago and I will still cry if I hear that song. The second song in my many favorites would be “Close to You” by Karen Carpenter. I would sing the song to my first husband, Richie, every time I heard it on the radio. I particularly loved the phrase,
“On the day that you were born, the angels got together, and decided to create a dream come true.”
My dear Richie passed away in 1977 with a massive heart attack at the age of 37. The angels took him back.

I love hearing the old hymn ‘Will There be any Stars in My Crown’. I learned it as a little girl one summer at Vacation Bible school when I was visiting with my Grandmother. I would sit on the front steps after I went back to her place and sing it all afternoon while I played. I also fell down those same steps and landed on a cactus and ended up pulling cactus spines out of my tooshie since I was too embarrassed to tell my grammy what had happened! OK, I know I shouldn’t chuckle to myself when I hear a hymn but I can’t separate the two!

Camp songs. Don’t recall the words to most but when hear kids singing them the memories come flooding back.
The song that brings back memories in our house is Edelweiss. Even though we are of Irish decent, that was the lullaby that would put our kids to sleep all the time. My daughter now 23, plays it on the piano as her warm up song.

my favourite song is Hallelujah. I love that song. I think my favourite version of it is by K.D. Lang. Justin Timberlake sings a nice verson and even Lee DeWyze sang it last night on American Idol. for some reason that song has the ability to calm me down and put things into perspective.
We got to go to Israel in January for a Holy Land tour. Awesome! I will always think of Israel when I sing Holy Ground. Truly it felt like we were standing on holy ground. Have a blessed day.

I really don’t know why, but I like Elton John’s “Funeral for a Friend”. I have told my husband that I would like to have that played at my funeral – I know weird.
A song my children and grandchildren loved to hear was Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro….remember that? It always cheered them up when they needed to find a smile.
My wedding song was “Always” and the only place i hear it now is in elevators but it still makes me smile!

For me….”How Great Thou Art” will always remind me of my grandfather. My 4 sisters and I sang it at his funeral. (At least we tried. Two verses went well, then we started choking up one by one so that the organist had to start singing it for us). It was the most fitting final tribute we could give to such a wonderful man. Now, whenever I hear that song, I think of him :)

Today I am picking Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to do With It” because it brings back fond memories of one of my sons. When my kids were younger and we visited my in-laws, my middle child, Dan. used to like to ride a Big wheel down their long driveway as fast as he possibly could. So he’d slowly ride to the top of the driveway and then at the top of his lung and riding as fast as he could he would belt out “What’s love, what’s love got to do with it.” I still smile at the memory and remind him about it every once in a while. Yesterday, I wrote that as a child I went to a church camp in western NYS. Another one of my favorite songs is “When the Saints go Marching In”. In my mind’s eye, I see the pearly gates sung wide and those who have gone before us, cheering and welcoming us in to Heaven.
As an adult, I am not sure how theologically sound my image is, but I do expect to see a lot of friends, family and other saints ready to serve God, and another. What a joyous time that will be for all eternity.

My brother came home one day after church and sat down and started to play it. He did the first verse and then when he got to the chorus o he just started rocking it out. That memory has stuck in my heat for 40 years. Now the other night I went to a church to see a speaker and the worship team stared playing the song and the first verse was the traditional way of playin and then all of a sudden they did the same thing my brother did….LOL. I have to say it was amazing to her 700 hundred people singing it.

Your work is such an inspiration. I’ve started ordering JustRite Stamps and Our Daily Bread because of your creations – How beautiful! The song that brings back memories for me is “Soon I Will Be Done with the troubles of this world” by Mahalia Jackson. I remember when I was just a little girl going to the drive in with my mother and dad to see Immitation of Life and that song was in the movie. I still watch that movie to this day and I have had my children and grandchildren watch it also. I did not know my mother was ill (cancer) and shortly after that outing she was gone. While it sounds like I’m sad, I’m really not – realizing today that Mom no longer has to suffer and she’s done with the troubles of this world and enjoying being with her Lord!
Edelweiss from Sound of Music is one of my favorites. I used to sing it as a lullaby to my kids.

I guess I could go on for ever listing all my favourite songs but don’t think I ever will, I once saw a movie “Inn of the 6th Happiness” based on a true story about Gladys Hayward and in the movie the climax was a group of children singing “nick nack paddy wack” as they were led to safety by Gladys from war torn China, I still cry to this day if and when I hear this song,

Day 3 Song: I’m not sure of the name of it but I call it the “hot, hot, hot” song. It is a wonderfully upbeat song that brings back many wonderful memories of dancing at a restaurant my friends and I used to frequent for some dancing. I wasn’t into the nightclub scene at all, but loved to dance and when we found this great, classier restaurant had a dance floor (small though it be) a group of about 12 of us would head down once a month for some dinner and a night of dancing until they closed for the night (oh to be young and have that type of energy again!).
We got to know the DJ there and would bring him our “song list” for the evening and he would play away for us. Even more fun was being able to dance with couples celebrating their 40th plus anniversaries, younger couples just having a romantic dinner together and many others. We also got a lot of comments about how nice it was to see us having such “clean” fun and no doubt providing diners with some entertainment as we danced away with each other and pulled others in to join us.
Another song that brings back memories of dancing there is “Life is a Highway” (and I’m going to drive it all night long) as well as the Rasputin song to which we formed a large circle, arms around each other and did the high kicks. The group of us actually did this for three or so years and when I hear either of these songs I am immediately taken back to those wonderful times at Mulvaney’s. Unfortunately the restaurant isn’t there any more….but the memories live on :D
Julie Andrews singing “the Sound of Music” – that was my dear Mother’s favourite musical. My 3 sisters and I went with her to see it when the movie first came out. (Yes, I’m that old!) :) I am so glad she got to see the Broadway revival of it- I watch the movie every chance I can and think fondly of my Mother who passed last year.
Another song is Forever and Ever, Amen by Randy Travis. That is “our” song. Which is amazing since when I met my husband, I was into rock, not country.

Whenever I hear How Great Thou Art I get teary eyed… My Dad used to sing that a lot when he was still with us.
I like “Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain”. Well really only that one line. I remember as a teenager sleeping in a tent with my best friend and waking up in a thunder and lightning storm. I started singing that song, until my friend decided it was time to go in the house. We had a great laugh the next morning watching her brother trying to get us out of the toppled tent!

When I was a kid we went on vacation without reservations and when arrived at Virginia Beach late and couldn’t find a room. We ended up staying in kind of a yucky place and our room attached to the pool room. All night they played Band of Gold over and over and my mom sat in a chair all night because she was mad at my dad for getting that room. My older brothers thought it was really cool. Good times.
This one is going to sound funny but it is Itsty Bitsy Spider. My daughter is 16 and I will sing it when she is on the phone with her friends whe rolls her eyes and tells her friends I am nuts but it brings me a good laugh. It is so much fun when you can torment them in fun. HaHa. Glad hubby is doing good.
Hi again Becca! I know my replies to this question are way off the mainstream but I remember in our twice weekly glee club classes in highschool, we learned this song about Catholic youth. It started with the line “An army of youth, flying standards of truth….”. It was such a rousing type of almost marching song. It was a Catholic school and I can still remember the words to this very long song. Crazy, yes?

Great idea, one song that brings back memories is Lady in Red by Chris Deburg. It reminds me of when I was dating my hubby and we would dance to it.
Everytime I hear the song “You must be my Lucky Star” by Madonna, it reminds me of the days when my daughter was in the SunCoast Twirlers (a Baton group) when we lived in Florida (in the 1980s). It was one of the songs they marched and twirled to. I don’t hear the song much anymore (they don’t play it on Christian music stations) but every now and then I hear it playing somewhere. Brings a BIG BMILE to my face remembering my daughter when she was a young girl.

I don’t know the name of it, but there is a Lionel Ritchey song that when I hear it I really think of my step-father. Shortly after he passed away, my Mom and I heard it on the radio and she commented that it had been one of his favorites. I work in a grocery store, and every now and then it comes on, and I fight back tears thinking of how much I loved him and miss him. He was a great dad to me….

Boyz 2 Men song Mama reminds me of the first time my son came home from college for a visit and had this CD with him. He was so excited for me to hear it, because he said it reminded him of me!

Another song that brings back memories is “The Prayer” which has been done by various duos, my favs being Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, though Charlotte Church and Josh Groban are awesome, too. I picked this song as a tribute to my dad at his funeral–which unfortunately was 9 days before my wedding. We had a tribute at the wedding for him and it was pretty emotional for me. But I had the compassionate support of my two grown kids, which meant the world to me. The song is so beautiful, it’s hard to do anything else but listen to it when it plays.

As a child, my mother used to sing the chorus from “I love you a bushel and a peck” (from the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls) to me every night before I went to bed. She passed away when I was a senior in high school, but I can still hear her singing to me!
“As the Deer” was one of the first songs I learned as a new Christian, so that brings back fond memories for obvious reasons!

Okay, there was a cartoon when my boy was a baby(he’s 14 now). It was an OLD MGM cartoon called ‘Owl Jolson’ and the song was ‘I WANNA SINGA’- OMG, I would sing that song (even with the missing words) and gently bounce him in my arms and he would stop fussing- The funniest thing! Look it up on you tube- it has a real cute story line…

Natalie Cole released a beautiful album mixing her voice with her dad, Nat King Cole, “Unforgetable” and it always reminds me of my father and the special place he has in my heart.
Another song(s) that I love is anything written or sung by Dottie Rambo. Her writings are so inspired by the Holy Spirit. She makes my heart sing when I listen to her music. Can’t just give you one title, there are too many, but, “Midnight In The Middle Of The Day” gives me goose bumps!! :-)

On a sad note, another song that brings back a definite memory is the Eagles song “Best of My Love”. It came along after a breakup that affected me for many years to come. I remember getting that album and playing that song over and over and over. Just one in a long line of sad songs that I have loved over the years! LOL!!
Oh what a fun and hard choice. How many of us are going through our music singing a few of our Fav. songs. I heard Dick Clark say once “music is the sound track of life” So many songs hold cherised memmories. “Truly, madly, deeply” by Savage Garden was a song I played and both my then fiance now hubby knew had to be our song. Christmas songs, I love ” O holy night” and I don’t think I could pick just one worship song.

Another favorite is Chubby Ckeckers “the twist”. My dad actually did the twist for me one Christmas Eve and I had never seen my dad dance or cut up- he was always so serious. It was so funny!

My song is very, very old! It came out in 1965 and it was called, “I’ll never find another you” by The Seekers. My husband to be heard that song and told me it was his song for me. Long before he passed away, my grandfather had asked my dad and me to sing the old hymn “Blessed Assurance” at his funeral. When the time came, we honored his request and did got through it just fine. But to this day, I cannot sing it thru without getting choked up and thinking of Grandpa. What a blessing to have grandparents who passed on a legacy of faith.

There are so many songs that I adore in Broadway and Opera but the one that never fails to grab me is “Let There be Peace on Earth.” When the entire congregation starts singing this, it just gives me chills.
I’m so glad that your husband is doing well! My husband, also has health problems and I know how you worry about them! My husband sings and plays guitar and when I hear Boot Scooting Boggey, it reminds me of him. He used to sing a lot of Garth Brooks and Brooks & Dunn and he’s not able to as much and now when I hear them, it makes me think back w/such wonderful memories. Thanks, Becca :o)
I just had that surgery, hope your hubby does as well as I did. Oh, boy, picking a favorite song, how difficult!!! My favorite hymn is “Here I Am Lord”. It was almost a theme song of a little church we helped to start. It reminds me of all the really special friends there who were more like family. It too brings back wonderful memories of the ministers there who taught me and others to not just talk about our faith but to act on it. We were all about helping others and it was truly a glorious time in my life. It also taught me about my own husband, just watching him do for others so unselfishly made me appreciate how lucky I am.

MMMM….favourite song and what memory does it evoke? For me it would have to be Gun’s and Roses’ Sweet Child of Mine. In 1990 My second son was born 13 weeks early and we had an harrowing time with his health the 1st couple of days, Sweet Child of Mine was pretty big in our UK charts and was playing everytime I switched the radio on. The song always reminds me of that 1st couple of days and the comfort it gave us.

Fun blog candy Becca! Fun contest! I like instrumental songs, esp. piano but also string, bells and wind instruments. Pachelbel’s Canon is one of my favorites! I love many of the different arrangements done with different instruments also. It is so peaceful and mesmerizing. One memory I have is when I/we played the song with bells in college, arranged with a guitar, very cool. Fun memories of playing bells. It was cool to see & hear so many who never had played an instrument or couldn’t read music, get together (music/arts requirement for grad), learn their assigned bells/notes (2-4) and produce this beautiful song together. We had a great teacher, Dr Parker : )
Back in the fifties, my very first favorite singer was Johnny Mathis. The title that comes to mind is Chances Are but that might not have been the one that made me love him so much. My mother said they taught me how to use the record player so I’d stop bugging them everyday to play a Johnny Mathis album. Today, my daughter gets tired of Johnny at Christmas but will admit that it doesn’t feel like the holidays without his music. Thanks for the chance to reminensce and win candy.

I love the song “boogie woogie bugle boy” because when I was 18, I sang that song at disneyland with two other girls on my swing dance team. It was the first time I had ever been to Disneyland and it was really a magical memory.

My favourite (not a spelling mistake – I’m Canadian) song is “Halleluiah”. Oh, when I hear it sung, I just melt. One of the contestants on American Idol sand it, last night. Did an amazing job of it!
F.Y.I. The song “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” was written (as a poem) by a soldier named Joseph Scriven. He wrote it, to his mother, during his time in WWI. The music was written, later, by someone else.
The interesting thing is that he is from the area where I live, now. The next street over from mine is Scriven Street. There is a monument in the area to this man and his contribution to a lovely hymn that has heartened many souls.

When me and my boyfriend got together, I listened to “songbird” by Eva Cassidy a lot. And I’m the type of person that can listen to a song a hundred times without getting tired of it.. So that first week when my boyfriend came over to my apartment, I put that song on repeat and we’d just spend time talking and getting to know eachother with the song playing in the background. So now it’s kind of our song, and I smile everytime I hear it. And my boyfriend and I has been together for 4,5 years now and are still going strong. :)
Another song that brings back wonderful memories is Blackbird by the Beatles. My mom was a huge Beatles fan and had many of their albums (wish I knew what happened to them). :) So whenever I hear this song I think of my mom. Thank you for the chance of winning the blog candy!

I forgot to leave my song memory in my last comment- doh. My favorite song memory is September by Earth Wind and Fire…or at least I think it is them. I remember when I was a little girl I went downstairs for a drink of water in the middle of the night and I saw my Dad wearing these big gray stereo headphones and he was doing a funny two finger jazzy kind of dance to that song…he was getting down so much that he didn’t even notice me laughing hysterically at him until I pulled out the cord of the headphones and the music started blasting.
Another of my favourites is Last Kiss which is a song that I sang from a young girl. It just seemed so tragic and brought strong emotions to the surface. It is a great song about a tragic but very possible topic.
Carmina Burana by Carl Orff – it’s fun and raises the spirits every time – it never fails, and is a wonderful sing-along. I remember my eldest daughter ‘sleeping’ through a performance when she was 5 and the next day humming the lot. She is now 21 and it is still a favourite of hers.

Oh my when I was little my grandmother and my mother sang me a song called ‘Vovo’ in Portuguese. I loved it so when I had my own son I sang it to him. One day he put his little hands over my mouth and said “Mommy don’t sing you give me mares.” He was right I can’t carry a tune in a bucket. LOL! Still love that song although my very favorite song is ‘What a Beautiful World’. I can hear Mom, Grandma and Louis singing now.

I still get chills when I hear Mason Williams play ‘Classical Gas’. I remember hearing it on the Smothers Brothers show and to this day, still love it. He truly played that song to its best.
BTW, on my last post, I mentioned a TV show called High Chapporal from 1962. Not sure where my head was, but the show was actually from 1967 or 8. I do recall hearing the theme (Belle Star) when I was 3 but it clearly wasn’t from the show :)

Another GREAT song by (in my opinion) two of the most talented vocalists is “Tell Him” by Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion. Just a powerful love song that you can even imagine yourself praising God with the words. I do that often with songs that aren’t spirital by origin.

Another song that I love is the song mostly sung as a child “This little light of mine.” Our pastor’s message was on being a light. An example he gave was light bulbs – they give light but not unless they are plugged in – same as us as Christians we are light but our light doesn’t shine unless we are plugged in to the source & that is Jesus Christ. Being plugged in is by reading His word, praying & listening to Him. So may our light be plugged in daily & shine in this dark world for Jesus Christ.
Like Susan, another favorite is “God Bless The USA”by Lee Greenwood. We sure need God’s blessings during this time with so much evil in the world. Your challenge is a lot of fun. I so enjoy your blog and your postings. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us. God Bless.
Oh how I love hearing “Jesus Love Me” sung totally off key by my 3 yr old daughter…In our home she is the baby to 2 much older sisters. In our tiny house the older ones seem to monopolize much of the entertainment with Music from TEEN singers and such so hearing my BABY sing Jesus love me just made me cry…I am so thankful that she believes that HE does love her.

Hi Becca, Glad the surgery went OK. Another song that is a favourite is Sing, Sing a song – whenever I hear it I feel inspired to make sure that I make the best of life and enjoy every moment to the full – not really memories of a particular occasion, but memories of the inspiration I feel every time I hear it, particularly the lines “make it simple, to last your whole life long, don’t worry that it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear” – it is your life after all.

I’m going to pay tribute to my mom (she has dementia and in an assisted living facility out of state) and prior to her illness loved country music, Johnny Cash among her all-time favorite singer. As a child I remember hearing “Walk The Line” on her record player ALOT. Everytime I hear the song, I immediately think of mom and just how wonderful of a mom she is. I miss her. Pam

Oh goodness! I missed a day! It’s been so busy around here this week. Another favorite song of mine is, Yesterday I Loved You, from the musical Once Upon a Mattress. When we were dating my husband, then boyfriend was a Theater major in college, so he would sing show tune love songs to me. This was my favorite. Our anniversary is May 24th, 30 years, and he’s still singing to me! Hope all is going well with your hubby!

My all time favourite song is Up On The Roof by the Drifters. I have loved that song for years. However, it wasn’t a favourite of everyone in my family. I played that record over and over and over. I think you get the drift. Anyway, on a hot summers night, I would crawl out my bedroom window and sit on the back porch roof just listening to my song and watching the stars. Well one of those nights my brother shut the window and locked me out . . . for hours. That song is still a favourite even though I spent hours up on that roof.

Great to hear your hubby is recovering well. My dad used to sing “Que Sera Sera” when I was little. He would sing the female version ” When I was just a little girl…. …. Will I be pretty…. ?” etc. which used to send my sisters and I in peals of laughter.
Becca, I hope your husband’s surgery is as successful as my husbands was. He loves beging able to see again. Only drawback, is he has to wear reading glasses. Being a singer and music teacher I have a ton of favorite songs. My favorite hymn is The Church is One Foundation. Hope all is well with you.

You are My Sunshine wins hands down. It’s been a staple in the family through the generations. I remember my Gran singing it to me as a little girl, my mom sang it to us as kids, I sang it to my own and I now sing it to my granbaby! Just thinking about the song gives me a warm fuzzy … you are my sunshine, my only sunshine …
One of my favourites is I Feel the Earth Move Under My Feet – I can still see my flatmate when I lived in Australia, dancing around to that song as she vacuumed – totally oblivious to anything going on around her! Whenever I hear the song it makes me smile!
Do you know the song…I Come to the Garden Alone…it was a favourite of my Mother’s and she would sing it as a solo in church. I sang it to her as I sat beside her bedside in her last few hours on this earth, so of course it became a favourite of mine too.

A very moving song for me is “Mary did you know” but it has to be the one sung by Kenny rogers and Winona Judd. Its so beautiful and it triggers the true meaning of Christmas
New follower here. My song is a bit unusual. I was working as a banquet manager when I was planning my wedding 13 years ago so I “attended” a lot of wedding receptions. Everytime the bride and groom would have their first dance the staff would ask me what song DH and I would be dancing to in our first dance. Honestly it was a tradition I didn’t really want to include in my wedding so I would name the most insane song I could think of, Brick House. My DH being as quirky as I was requested the song from the dj and the dj announced it as our first dance. I can remember everyone dancing and having such a ball during that song. I still love the memory that song has, so much so it was the first song I downloaded onto my iPod!

I have so many favorite songs I’d have to say anything by “Chicago” especially,”Colour My World” kiss by my first puppy love. The rest of “Chicago’s” songs remind me of the summer of ’76 and going to the beach with the wind blowing in my hair and the music playing loud. I also have to say that one of my favorite Christian songs is ” How Great Thou Art”. I always cry when I hear that song, it reminds me of God’s goodness and His unfailing greatness. This was such a hard catagory, I have so many songs that remind me of different times, feelings and even exact locations of hearing “the” song for the first time. Songs can evoke so many emotions, I’m feeling emot ional just thinking of the emotions, lol!!!

My next song that brings back fond memories is “When Irish Eyes are Smiling”. My parents owned a farm and sold vegetables at several Farmer’s Markets. My dad stayed on the farm and my mother went to the market. I have 7 brothers and sisters (plus various kids from the Children’s Aid) but I was the smallest girl so I got to go to market with my mother. I loved it. On the way home she would often sing. (As I look back she was probably exhausted and sang to stay awake). Anyway, I loved it when she sang and I always asked her to sing When Irish Eyes are Smiling so whenever I hear that song it takes me back to my childhood.
My favorite is “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess. My mom would sing it in Minstrel shows and everytime I hear it, it makes me think of all the times that I heard her sing it and it brings back lovely memories.

Another great song that brings back memories is “It’s only make believe” by Conway Twitty. I have loved that song and watching him sing it brings back special memories. I am so glad that in my younger days I was able to see so many great artist. Thanks again for bringing back the memories.

I started praying right away for your dh, and will continue to keep you both in prayer. My song would have to be Good Night My Someone from The Music Man. My daughter and I used to sing it in the car into a pretend microphone (toy mic I found at a garage sale). We’d really get into it and ham it up…soooo much fun and so many laughs. Such wonderful memories. She now has a daughter of her own (five years old), and now is building memories with her. Of course, Nana (that’s me) is creating memories with her, also. One of my other most favorite songs is ‘Castles in the Air’ by Don McLean.
It was on the ‘B’ side of the ‘Vincent’ single record (does that date me?!!!), but I absolutely loved it. And I remember playing it over and over again when I lived in London in the mid-late 1970s. This September, I’m going to see Don McLean singing live at a small venue here and I’m so hoping he sings ‘Castles In The Air’, in addition to his more well-known songs like ‘Vincent’ and ‘American Pie’.
I guess today my favorite song would be “Happy Birthday!” (although at my age, one does not like to celebrate them!)
One of my favorite songs is “You Are My Sunshine.” My DH will call me at work (usually while I’m driving TO work), and sing it and hang up without saying anything else. Definitely puts a smile on my face and it’s a great way to start the work day. I’m glad your hubby’s surgery okay.
I also love “Mary Did You Know”, it’s so thought provoking and especially touching. However, I think the greatest version of it is of course from the one who wrote it, “Mark Lowry”. No one else can sing it with quite the same emotion and conviction as the creator of it.
One of my favorite songs is ‘In the Garden’. Lots of good memories.
Has to be the song from the film “Beaches” with Bette Midler – don’t know what it’s called but goes something along the lines of “did you ever know that you’re my Hero etc” – brings a lump to my throat every time I think about it.

one of my favourite songs- I have many – is an Australian singer from the 50s/60s/70s It’s called “She wears my ring” and it’s sung by an Australian Singer called Johnny O’Keefe- it reminds me of when my husband and I started dating and this song came on just as he gave me a ring with my initials on it. It wasn’t planned it just happened that way and I just remember that time everytime I hear that song.

Another song that brings back a memory to me is “Home” by Chris Daughtry. It was popular when I spent a year in America in High School and me and my friends listened to it a lot. After a year with new friends it felt like I had got a new home, but then obviously I had to leave to go back to my “old” home… So when I returned to the States to visit my friends last summer, I had that song playing on my Ipod during the plane ride. It makes me think of all the great memories I made in America.

Good morning, Becca! Another song that I love is from Sesame Street – “I’ve got A New Way to Walk”. It’s such a positive song and my happy memories come from just last year when caring for my 5 year old grandson. When we would drive back and forth to his home in the morning and late afternoon, we would play this song and sing as loud as we could. Just a happy song for us.
Becca, one of my favorite songs is Edelweiss from the movie Sound of Music. My son, who didn’t like to sing, sang this song to his babies as a lullaby. So it has special meaning to me and I’ll hopefully be able to sing it to my new little great-grandson.
“Ode to Joy” was our wedding song. What a memory! Each of our four children has learned and played it on the piano and my oldest daughter plays on the pipe organ — those are wonderful memories, too.
The other song is “The Warrior is A Child” which my youngest daughter is working on and will be performing in church soon.

A song that I enjoy, but don’t hear very often is one by Ron Hamilton – “The Joy of Jesus” because my daughter and I would sing this together as a special in a small church we attended in Katy, Tx She was only about 8 years old and it was a blessing to have her sing with me. Now she is 29, so that’s been a good many years ago.

Yea I know not real positive as I usually am but I was working at a really bad company and didn’t want to leave because I didn’t want to leave the people who depended on me in a bind but finally realized I had to do what was best for me as I was so unhappy and this song came on and made me laugh. SO I decided it was really time to pull the plug andthink of myself for once.

Occasionally when my brothers and my sister and I were young, my Dad used to sing an old song called ‘Red River Valley’ to us in the car. Although my father passed away many years ago, that song has a special place in my heart.
My last song choice as a favorite would be “Here I Am Lord”. I first heard it at a small country church we were attending and it so called out to me! When I was a junior in high school I wanted to become a minister; but back in those days, female pastors were not given many opportunities. My pastor convinced me that taking a different path might well serve God better. Years later I became an advocate for the elderly; and was told that I was a wonderful “minister”! And so ‘here I am Lord’!
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” – I have always loved this song! My daughter remembers me singing (or a version of singing) this to her when she was very small – gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling.

Even if he is on the dance floor with his own mother!! :) That song is one of our special ones. If I hear it alone, it is “just a song”. When I was a teenager, my parents would take me to see them when they came to town. I always felt special in that adult atmosphere with my Shirley Temple drink. How’s Mr. Becca doing today? Another one of my favorite songs is “You are my Sunshine”. I babysit my 4 year old niece & I taught her to sing it. There is nothing more beautiful than hearing a small child sing that song. :) She sang it to her Mom one day & her mom says are you my sunshine & my niece replied “No, I’m Nina’s (that’s what she call me) sunshine”.
Becca: Make sure in the next month or two your hubby doesn’t do a lot of bending over or straining. Sometimes they don’t tell you this. Two months after having cataract surgery on both eyes, I was in a store trying on jeans. Well you know all the tugging and pulling and bending that does with that. That day I suffered a tear in my retina. This happens to 15% of people who have cataract surgery. No one told me that and maybe it would have happened anyway but I think it’s good to know.
Another song from the past that I was crazy about was At The Hope. It sort of signified my entrance into my teenage years and is one I remember every word to.

And I remember from childhood my Mother would sing a song sometimes “I’m a soldier in the army,(On the battlefield for my Lord), I think is the title.

My song is “My Wish” by Rascal Flats. I’m usually a rock & roll girl but I have recently discovered lots of great country songs on blogs. This song is so special and made me cry as we prepared for our last child to graduate from college. It captures all those feelings as you send your children out into the world. My husband copied the lyrics in her favorite color (purple) and put them in her graduation card. She is our only daughter and is now in vet school @ Penn in Philadelphia. My DH’s still not a country fan and DD isn’t a RF fan but we all cry when we hear this song. I think they should dance to it at her wedding… as soon as she finds a husband.

The Christmas Song! I realize it’s not Christmas but I really, really love this song and thinking of Nat King Cole made me think of this. Plus, it’s one of the only Christmas songs I can still sing relatively well as my voice drops down off the soprano range!

Today’s song – an oldie – “The Way You Look Tonight!”
One of my favorite more current songs is Caleb Carruth’s “Beloved” – because it is an awesome reminder of God’s majesty and His great love for His children!
Another one that has memories for me is “I FEEL GOOD” by James Brown. Many times I sing this in the shower ‘cuz I love feeling clean. I don’t know the words but I try to fake them… dadda datta dadda dat da…however it goes… :)

Hi Becca, I love country music. Not very many of my friends have been country fans, but I do get them to listen to a few of the country artists. Rascal Flatts has always been my favorite and I loved when they performed on Jamie Olliver’s Food Revolution with the song “My Wish”…very moving. Thanks, Teresa E.
One of my favorite hymns is Amazing Grace. I cry just about every time I hear the song because of the powerful reminder of how Christ has saved us by His grace and how one day we will be able to sing His praises in Heaven with the angels gathered around the throne!! (and my off key singing will no longer be off key LOL!)s
Hi Becca, I have to say my favorite song is by MercyMe – I Can Only Imagine. When I first heard that song, I was in my car crying my eyes out. My thought was I needed to get out of my car and get on my knees. I still cry hearing it. The thought of that day coming is so welcoming to my soul.
Wow… too many songs, so little time! LOL!! But, on the last day of your blog candy entries I have to choose a couple of favorite songs that take me back to growing up. My dad was a minister and church was the center of my family’s life. I love so many of the old hymns that were sung so often back then. Two that come to mind first are Amazing Grace and The Old Rugged Cross. I really miss those days… I’ve just never been able to enjoy the music I hear in most churches now days. Oh well… I thought I’d never get old, but I guess this is a definite sign of it! LOL!
Well I love so many kinds of music that this is really hard but my song for today would be “Bad Romance” by Lady GaGa. It is now my ringtone on my cell. My grandson make me call my cell so he can sing the beginning of the song! Hope your husband is doing well. TFS and the chance at some fun goodies!
Okay, how could I leave out “Radar Love” by Golden Earring? My husband used to listen to this song when driving the hour to come pick me up long ago when we were dating, and then it became one of our “have to get up up and dance” songs whenever it played. One more song Becca – Phil Collins version of “You Can’t Hurry Love” brings me back to when I was going to university and living in the student dorms. Fun times!

Oops! forgot to post today’s 1 comment until right now! Today’s song that means alot to me is You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone. My sister when I was 5 had the idea to record me singing it and I’ve cherished that tape ever since cause when I was growing up, there were not any digital anything just laying around so I don’t have anything to show me what I sounded like back then except that tape. “American Pie” by Don McLean. What a great song for singing along on car trips! And of course it is lots of fun to speculate on how to interpret the lyrics! It begins when, as a boy with a paper route, he heard about the tragic death of Buddy Holly, and continues on with cryptic references to all kinds of musical artists. But the main thing is, it’s a wonderful song to sing at the top of your lungs in the car where no one can hear you! That is where MY singing is MOST appreciated!! :-)
The sound track from The Lion King. We listened to this one an entire 12 hour trip home one year from vacation when our children were very small. Then they would fall asleep we would try to turn it off and sure enough they would wake up, so back on it went.
Favorite Song – Amazing Grace (and I’m not just saying that because of your blog name :)) It brings back fond memories of my Dad as it was his favorite too.

Billy Joel sings a song, not his, Hey Girl …. oh, it makes me feel so warm in side … I told my boys when they are ready to get married, play that song for their love …. great song to make one feel special.

It was our wedding song and the song says so much to us that as soon as it comes on, no matter what we are doing or where we are, we stop and dance (after almost 23 years). If we are driving, we pull over and sing it. It always brings a tear to DH’s eyes when it comes on.

How difficult it is to choose just one song from my long list of favorites! One that was added to the list the very first time I heard it about three years ago in a contemporary worship service is “Before The Throne Of God Above”. I learned that the words of this wonderful message in song were written in 1863!
One song I can’t get enough of is My Savior, My God by Aaron Shust. The chorus begins with “my Savior live, my Savior loves, my Savior’s always there for me. My God he was , my God he is, my God is always going to be”.

I have a lot of the tunes from Mary Poppins going through my head right now.
We just recently watched the Mary Poppins dvd and a lot of those tunes are playing over and over in my head. We watched the extras on the dvd where they had a short video of “From Page to Stage”. It was fascinating to watch and now I find myself humming some of the tunes in that as well.
My husband has tickets for the two of us and our two children for the stage version in Tampa for Saturday night. It is my son’s 19th birthday and it will be a last hurrah with him. He is leaving for boot camp with the Air Force on Monday.

“At Last” by Etta James is one of my favorite songs. People used to ask me if I was too picky when dating….hmmm. I ALWAYS thought that was a silly comment because I think you should be picky if you are looking for the person you want to spend the rest of your life with!!! So my first dance at my wedding, with The Love of My Life, was to “At Last” which I think was appropriate. On the comedic side, my older brother shouted “it’s about time” when the song first started playing…..it was funny!!! I waited 37 years to find MY HONEY!!!
Hello Becca.. too many songs left to list… Al Green”Let’s Stay Together” (goodness, I love that song); “Passenger Seat” by SheDaisy, Josh Turner’s “Would you go with me”; and almost any song by my all-time favorite female singer, Alison Krauss.. “Stay”, “Baby, Now that you’ve found me”…almost every one of her songs with Union Station.
For the final day I think a dancing favorite of mine is “We are family”. It’s overplayed at weddings but so much fun to dance to. Have a great weekend and hope your hubby is doing better!

One song that gets us laughs and great memories is the Chicken dance played at weddings. A co-worker’s daughter got married a few years back and we set it up to have our supervisor called to the dance floor by the band. She was up there with the band doing the chicken dance. We still laugh to this day about “getting her”!
So happy that hubby came through the surgery…. I haven’t given my favorite song….there are so many that mean so much to me.

I have a long list of favorite songs. Bridge Over Troubled Waters is one, and I also love Hallelujah, especially when sung by K.D. Laing.

I love the song The Day the Music Died by Don McLean. Not sure why but I remember back when we live in St. Louis, MO hearing that song. I was around 7 or 8. This is really going down memory lane as that was almost 40 years ago.

My favorite gospel song has to “There’s Just Something About That Name. It is so beautiful and just saying the name of Jesus is so calming to my spirit. I love playing this as an offotory or special.

I’m a real Disney fan and love the ride called It’s a Small World…I don’t know if you can call it a song exactly, but love the idea of it.
And you know Becca, it is a small world too. One of the customers at the store I work in Ontario Canada, shares time with you through the winter months. She tells me that she taught you to make the card box with address book that I taught her to make at our store. Now that’s a small world isn’t it!

Hi Becca! Ok, one more favourite…Scotland The Brave!! Performed of course by the massed bands during the Highland Games!! You see, I was a competitive Highland Dancer growing up, and one of the highlights of any games was to march out into the field with dancers of all ages, surround one of the bands and dance a mass Highland Fling. What an awesome sight to see all those different tartans. My daughter now competes in the games…how special to see her out there dancing to those pipes!

I have collected the 6 words yipee (I was scared I had missed one!). One of my fave songs is Amazing Grace (a fave of many others too). IT reminds me of my need for God’s grace through all the years of my life and that His grace and love are constant and sure.
Hmmm another one…I guess Proud to Be an American. It doesn’t really have any specific memories other than it always made me cry and gave me chills after 9/11
Today’s song is Blessed Be Your Name by Matt Redman. We started doing this song in our church shortly after my dad had his stroke. A month and a half later he was gone. This song still stirs up lots of emotion for me.
Well I missed one of the words yesterday. Darn it! There is a new song our Church has started playing and it’s a Planetshakers song called “Like A Fire” and it is awesome! Tells about how in our individual faith, we need to be desperate for God and yearn to know Him more, but then as a Church let the Holy Spirit sweep through and impact hearts! It’s brilliant!

The part that says “fools rush in where wise men fear to tread”, well I guess that was my hubby and me.
He was home on leave from Germany, we dated 10 days, decided to marry when he returned to the states ( I know crazy) —but I did know and was good friends with his family.
We wrote for about 11 months–he came home , and we have been happily married for 37 years.
You can get to know a person by letter better than one would think.
Would not advise this–but it worked for us.

Hi Becca – One of my favorite songs is “Blue Velvet” – it was one of the first 45’s I bought when I was young. Whenever I hear that song it reminds me of being young and not having a care in the world!

Oh my goodness, Becca! We just returned from our oldest grandson’s 5th grade concert – directed by 3 music teachers – one of them is our daughter. Each teacher directed 3 songs that they chose for the concert and our daughter loves the effect of Black lights on white gloves. A group of 170 5th graders did delightful choreographed hand movements to the song “Dragostea Din Tei (Numa Numa)” That could be my new favorite song. I guess it’s on you tube, but I have no idea of that.
I was ready to list Andrew Lloyd Weber’s “Pie Jesu” as another favorite – and it still is……gives me goose bumps to hear such a beautiful song.

I’ve missed the deadline; a bit slow catching up on posts this week. But, my song may seem silly – It’s Sugar Sugar by the Archies. I remember my mom was ironing one day and I was sitting there when the song came on and she sang the entire song. I was shocked that she would know a song I liked, and totally at that. I remember saying “How do you know that song”, and her response was – “what, I’m not old, I like your music”. I lost my mom three years ago and this song always makes me smile when I hear it (along with so many others ~ my mom had a beautiful voice and she was always singing).
“Walkin on sunshine” was another of my favorite songs back in the 80’s when I met my husband. When I hear it, it takes me back to the days when we would go out dancing.
A Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini was such a cute song that I liked.
Amazing Grace …My Chains are Gone…………I have such a hard time singing this song. It overwhelms me ….I am tearing up typing about it….unending love …amazing grace. My chains are gone I’ve been set free.
God loves me the way I am. He loves me with all my faults. He will never leave me or forsake me. This is the grace that got me through many though situations in my life. I am forever his.

Hi Becca, Glad to hear so far so good for your husband. Keeping him in my prayers. My favorite song was when I was a teenager dating my husband to be. I always popped in the Best of Bread cassette and would bring up Baby I’m-a Want You. Played it every time we went some where. Still love it and Love him even more.
Let’s see…one of my favourite artists is Keith Urban. I love his song “You Look Good in my Shirt” which reminds me of the most awesome concert that i’ve ever been…just last November. He’s amazing! The entire evening was definitley a wonderful memory! Thanks for the chance to win!
