A good friend of mine emailed to ask where to get foil paper for making cards and boy did it open up a whole can of worms. You see, I was trying to resist seeing the foil, touching the foil, dreaming of what to do with the foil. I went on a foil binge not too long ago – remember? Well, to no avail, once I looked upon that shininess again, visions of Sketch Challenge 194 (SC194) danced through my head…shucks I’m foiled again!
Truthfully, I have had this Cuttlebug embossing folder for a while. It has languished in the corner of my craft room pouting. I admit, I had no idea what to do with it. It screamed for color but I had visions of me sitting down with chalks and years now from still working on coloring it in. Instead I decided to bling it up. I put holes where I thought they could be decorative using my Japanese Screw Punch (makes my top 10 list of tools for sure). Then in other places I just embellished with pearls and rhinestones. This weeks SC194 was awesome color blocks. I took the sketch very literally and followed it to a "T". Around each block of color I made sure to keep the black border which really gives the card definition. This card was ready yesterday but I floundered over what type of sentiment I could put on it without covering up all the wonderful bling. Big picture —> Card = 1 hour…Sentiment = hours and hours – ughhh!
Say, you all can’t tell that I’m excited Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming can you? Actually my Christmas tree is going up on November 1st IF I can wait that long – we have way too much to be thankful for! Last year was very difficult for my family and I, but God walks with us every day through the trials and continues to bless us day by day. You know what, He blesses you too!

I am still so tickled about how the Sharing the Comment Wealth turned out – thanks again. Also after my last Q&A post several people asked if I live in Georgia . . . I wish!! I don’t live in Georgia but I know Hartsfield Int’l Airport like the back of my hand, I used to be in that airport every couple of days. I am so envious of you that have stores like Archivers around the corner (umm, within 40 miles). Well, thanks to the convenience of the internet, remember wherever you live, I’m only a couple of keystrokes from you!

So we sound like little kids on Christmas morning….ohhhhh & ahhhhs…very pretty. Like you, I also don’t have scrap stores close… so where does a person obtain foil papers and all of these cuttlebug folders? I look at your work and wonder… what a scrapbook layout of yours would look like…amazing!

Ok, what is a “Japanese Screw Punch”, and where can I find a picture of one? Ok, had to say that first so that I wouldn’t forget to ask. This card is so dog-gone beautiful, I have now decided to get this embossing folder. Don’t you just love cuttlebug stuff? I know I do. Ok, I am also headed to Walmart this weekend to pick up some of that foil paper. Oh, I found out that the little bling jems are $1.00 cheaper at Michael’s craft store, than most other places, and they have a pretty good variety. Just a tip I thought I would pass on.

WOW!!!!!!!!! Absolutely gorgeous! But then I haven’t seen an ugly card yet from you. I have a Michael’s and a Hobby Lobby and a JoAnne’s and another homegrown scrap store within 20 miles from home and STILL have trouble finding things I want!!! Luckily I am a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator and it doesn’t take me long to get things from them!

I’ve subscribed to your blog and I hope you’ll visit mine sometime. You seem like such a wonderful God-loving person and I’d like you to “meet” my family – especially my daughter, Jessica. Jess was born with congenital heart defects and has been very ill her whole life. She is considered terminally ill and is on oxygen and in a wheelchair. Jessica wasn’t expected to survive past 3 yrs old when she almost died during her 2nd heart surgery (she’s had 5 heart surgeries total and has suffered 2 strokes). In June she turned 20 years old!!! We’ve seen God’s love and miracles throughout the years and are so grateful for the time we have here on earth and for the promise of being together again after this life.
I just started a crafting blog which I feel is far past due. I love being creative and have done a lot of decorative painting and scrapbooking in the past. As I said, I’ve recently gotten into stamping and I’m enjoying looking over stamping blogs and marveling in so much creativity!

Wow – I love the card. The bling, the gold, the bow – it all looks fantastic! I want to find that folder now. :) What is the name of the Cuttlebug folder? Also, the foil paper – is there a specific kind that works best? What exactly does foil paper look like – I don’t want to end up buying the wrong thing. My goodness Becca – this card is just gorgeous. I love the use of the bling on the card. I have the same folder and when making my sample for my book and thought “How will I ever use that one?…either I’ll hide the design completely, or I’ll leave it exposed and try to color it.” Now I know what to do with it!!! Thanks Becca.
May I share a tip with you that I’ve come up with for storing my Cuttlebug embossing folders? I use a 4 x 6 (or 5 x 7, if you prefer) photo album. One the first page, I have a cute sheet that says Debi’s Cuttlebug Folders, and then the back side of it (hopefully you purchased one that has a divider sheet in each sleeve), has a sample of the folder that is in the right hand sleeve. I take a Sharpie marker and write on the bottom of each page the name of the embosssing folder. I also write the name of the folder on the back side of the folder because I don’t want to keep the jackets they were sold in. When I want to get inspiration for a card, I just pull out my photo album and see which folder I want to use.

I loved this idea so much, I started experimenting. I didn’t have the Walmart foil, so I tried a few lightweight foils I had, but the embossing process almost tore them. Then in the hardware store the other day, I saw Duck brand faux foil shelf liner. It works great and has an adhesive backing and–best of all–you get 6.6 square feet for about 5 bucks. Such a deal! I was so excited, I had to go get that Japanese screw punch I’ve been wanting. So maybe I didn’t save so much after all. Thanks for the great inspiration & ideas.
GORGEOUS Where can I find 140 lb cardstock?…and my WalMart doesn’t have the foil paper :(.
I frequent a little scrapping store in my small city, but the poor gals don’t seem to know too much about their product. I asked the weight of their paper (I found it on the company website myself) and I also asked if it was Watercolor paper and they didn’t know. Is there a difference from regular cardstock. I am fairly new to this and LOVE it, but I want to do things right and not waste a lot of money on things that are not great.
