How Beautifully Leaves Grow Old

Fall Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design How Beautiful Leaves Grow Old and Spellbinders Oval Bliss and Sparkle
Good morning sweet friends.  I’ve been diligently producing Christmas cards left and right and I looked up for a moment to be mindful that the seasons seem to be flying by (except summer, summer lasts forever).  I don’t think I’ve savored a fall more delicious than the one we’re in right now.  Although the leaves aren’t changing here yet, the air is crisp and the sky seems bluer with frothy clouds that  tumble through the sky without the threat of rain.  Yep, it’s fall and today I’m sharing a sweet fall sentiment from Quietfire Design called How Beautifully Leaves Grow Old.

Fall Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design How Beautiful Leaves Grow Old and Spellbinders Oval Bliss and Sparkle

I have to be honest folks, I’d be hard pressed to find a great orange in my stash.  But fall has browns and golds with the tips of leaves colored with a splash of purple or or yellow.  I’m sharing a card with an awesome pairing of  Spellbinders Oval Bliss and Spellbinders Sparkle topped with Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG and embellished with Spellbinders Moroccan Accents.

Here’s how I made it – step by step:

  1. Start out with a 5-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ card base.  (Card base is made with two pieces of 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″‘ paper scored and glued as in this Hinge Video.)
  2. Mat a 5-1/8″ x 6-3/4″ piece of cream cardstock with gold cardstock cut to 5-1/4″ x 7-1/4″
  3. Mat a 6-5/8″ x 4-1/2″ piece of design paper with gold cardstock cut to 4-5/8″ x 6-3/4″ adhere to previous layers with two layers of foam tape.
  4. Place ribbon and lace across card and two matted layers horizontally and tape on backside.  Adhere to card base with two layers of foam tape.
  5. Cut/emboss Spellbinders Oval Bliss and attach with two layers of foam tape.
  6. Cut/emboss Spellbinders Sparkle, adhere to card base, add two pearls.
  7. Cut/emboss Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG and stamp sentiment, distress with Brushed Corduroy Ink.
  8. Trace around outside of oval with Krylon Gold Leafing Pen
  9. Adhere oval to card base using two layers of foam tape.
  10. Glue a bow embellished with flowers and leaves to the right side of oval
  11. Cut one corner with Spellbinders Moroccan Accents, adhere to card and add pearl.

    Hello Becca

I really like this card and will look forward to the release of these Dies so that I can copy you lol!

    Another stunning card!
Enjoy the lovely fall days, Becca! Autumn is well and truly here in the UK and the colours are glorious. We have had some lovely mild days, but with the tail end of the hurricane, there is a definite chill in the air and the grass is damp. But I am still picking my autumnal raspberries – yellow in colour (so the birds don’t notice them so much!) and seedless. Everything is still in full bloom, but maybe not for much longer. Our clocks go back this weekend, so winter is well and truly just around the corner!
    Hugs

Great card – love the sentiment and adore that oval. I am currently trying to finish off 7 bday cards using the watercolour technique background card I made – although I didn’t really like my watercolour efforts when you cut them up and mount them on black – hey presto – they dont look bad – It’s a miracle of sorts me thinks – will send you a foto when they are finished – 2 down 5 to go! That will then sort all the Bday cards needed till 2015 so I can focus on Christmas – I’ve also used sequins on them and they are a great tone on tone embellishment – I didn’t cover the holes up as you can hardly see them and a tiny weeny pearl just didn’t look right I thought. Thanks for sharing and inspiring as you always do.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
How beautiful is this card? It is breathtaking and your accessories are always so pretty.
Autumn is all lovely colours and conkers, hot chocolate and warm clothes. Gorgeous. I think the only time that I use an actual orange card is Halloween, another great time.
Wrap up, keep warm and happy crafting xxReplyCancel

    Good morning Becca,
What a beautiful card and the leaves, well they are exquisite in their colours. The Sparkle border on top of the Bliss oval looks so lovely that you wouldn’t know that it could turn into the hugger at the top and bottom of the oval. So pretty and different, thank you Becca,
    Love and crafty hugs

I guess I’m late because unlike Mary before me, I usually reply within the first 10-15 bloggers. This is beautiful and I guess no one uses orange very much – except for Halloween. I love, love love the oval bliss dies and will have to put them on my want list. We just came back from a “foliage” trip to North Carolina (Cherokee) on Sunday and the leaves were getting really pretty!

    Hi Becca,
Just surfacing again after 5 deaths (3 very good friends and sister and niece) plus having to have my lovely cat put to sleep (I know she was a good age but it’s so heartbreaking – but I didn’t abandon her).
Your card is lovely (as is your previous post), I hope you are enjoying life a bit more now and that every day will bring sweet memories and a smile remembering.
