Oh wow!!  So many of you asked how I used the triangle ruler with my Tonic Cutter so I thought I would give you a very brief demo and more of an explanation.   Cutting is something that used to frustrate me, but now I have a little groove going.   As I mentioned before I make the first cuts on the big Tonic and then when layering papers I use the small Tonic to fine tune and to cut a scant edge.  I hope you enjoy the tip and it gives you a tool to make crafting more fun!!

Hi, Like the way the triangle ruler works and think I’ll be getting one. Good tips. My friend has 2 guillotine cutters and will try hers out.
We tried your bows that you made 5 petals and the covered button in the middle. It didn’t turn out as well as yours did, but we were able to do it. Probably takes a little practice. Thanks for all your tips. EdnaReplyCancel

What I like about the cutter you use is that there is a “built” in place to hold the cutter when you slice. Often when you hold down the the guide moves a little and will change the alignment. Thanks for the tutorial. I appreciate the information on the cutter and the triangle ruler.ReplyCancel

Becca thanks so much for the visual. When I left my comment a couple of days ago, I thought that your used an additional cutter besides these two, which I own. But instead I now see you use the same two I use but you add this additional help tool. Love it! Will be getting me one of those ASAP! My large cutter has been, up until a couple of days ago, giving me “obvious” not straight edges. The same day I saw your post, I made a call to Tonic and he said that the screws that hold the arm down have tension springs and that I should try tightening the top screw on the arm slightly. Like he said half inch turns. I did that. And now it is back to perfect accuracy! And when I get the help tool too that you suggested? Stand back world! LOL! Thanks again!ReplyCancel

Having to cut ‘anything’ has always been a scary prospect for me because I just can’t recognise the difference between straight v slant! My guillotine is wood and not really accurate though. I bought one online and got really carried away with the heavy duty thing. I could cut a tree stump with this thing but not accurate at all. I keep it for the thick card board though. ha ha. I’m going to buy a tonic when I’m done with all the holidays and my hubby’s 50th and other family things this month. Sorry so long. Hi there blog friends!!  I have a card to share today using a newly released JustRite Stampers set in their Cling collection called Forever Friends.  It is the epitome of elegance; the swirling frames are absolutely beautiful!   It’s a bonus that it was designed to match Spellbinders Ribbon Tags Trio Three.  I wanted to pull together a simple card to highlight the sophistication of the frames in this set.    I’ve been on quite the kick using pink these last weeks so I tried to go with another palette instead of pink, to change things up.

My card is essentially a large medallion!  On the bottom I started with Spellbinders Labels Ten embellished with elements from Spellbinders Parisian Accents.  On top of that I added Spellbinders Parisian Motifs and decided to make it into a square frame using Spellbinders Classic Squares Large.  I layered the sentiment on the bottom and a square border on top.  I added a little bit of color to the square frame using Antique Linen distress ink which I smudged on while the frame was still in the die.

I tied my ribbon onto one of the loops on the frame and was able to thread it down the backside of the medallion.  A couple of pearls for highlights and sweet flowers for decoration and I was done :-).

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite Stampers – Forever Friends
Paper: K and Company, Bazzill
Ink: Antique Linen Distress Ink, Adirondack – Denim
Accessories: Spellbinders Labels Ten, Spellbinders Parisian Accents, Spellbinders Parisian Motifs, Spellbinders Classic Squares LG, Pearls, Ribbon, Recollection Flowers.

Be sure to check out what some of the other JustRite Design Teams Members have pulled together to show this stunning set:

I meant to comment on this card earlier when I first saw it, but after scrolling your blog to see if I’ve missed anything, this one caught my eye again. I’m such a fan of the way you layer dies, and the fancy elegance of your style. This card is another perfect example of why you are the first blog in the list that I follow!ReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends!! I have another video to share with you today – it covers a quick frugal embellishment. I put it to use today because I didn’t have quite the right embellishment for my card. So, let me tell you a little bit about my card first. This new Flourishes set caught my eye – I’ve been planning on how I would use it and finally just sat down and played around with it a bit. The most exciting thing is that it’s a set that matches Spellbinders Nested Pennants!! The Flourishes set I’m using is called Birthday Pennants and the matching set with borders called Strips and Stripes.  The sentiment came from the Flourishes set called Paperwhites.I stamped the sentiment and cut/embossed it using Spellbinders Parisian Accents and backed it with Spellbinders Fancy Tags Three.  I stamped the border from Strips and Stripes and used an EK Success Border Punch for the scroll border.  I cut three of Spellbinders Nested Pennants then stamped with the pennant shape from Birthday Pennants.

I had nothing in my embellishment bin that matched the colors I needed so I broke out the buttons.  I decided wanted to a flower made of buttons so this one came together in a jiffy.  Here’s a video to show you how easy it was:

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Flourishes –  Birthday Pennants, Srips and Stripes, Paperwhites
Paper: My Minds Eye
Ink: Colorbox Pigment – Chianti
Accessories: Spellbinders Nested Pennants, Spellbinders Fancy Tags Three, Spellbinders Parisian Accents, Buttons, Ribbon, Pearls, Clear Embossing Powde

That’s all for me today friends!!  I’m enjoying the rain and getting ready to go and fix a cup of Chai Tea.  I hope you’re cozy too!!

I’m not a big fan of buttons on cards, but this is cute. I never thought of using buttons as being frugal… they are pretty expensive where I see them. Any hints on good places to find them at good prices? I cringe when I think of what happened to all of the buttons my mother had when she passed away… I’m sure they were just all thrown away. She had been a seamstress for many years and had many, many buttons in her stash of notions.ReplyCancel

Love the button flowers Becca. You may have told us before, what type of seam binding did you use for the bow? Where do you buy it? Another suggestion, maybe making a list of “most used” supplies and where you buy so we can link and buy as well!:)

  • ClaudiaMarch 30, 2011 - 2:54 pm

I think your work is lovely but I have one thought – the embellisments for some of your work is too thick & weighty to send through mail without paying extra postage & that gets to be alot of $$ when sending out lots of cards. That’s just a thought, not criticism.ReplyCancel

  • Mary H.March 30, 2011 - 2:55 pm

Really neat card. I always enjoy seeing buttons used, as I collect buttons, family & friends collect buttons for me. I’m always searching for creative uses for them. Flea markets, estate sales, and thrift stores are good sources of buttons (if the garment is cheap enough, buy it for any buttons that are on it. Cut off buttons before discarding clothes that are no longer wearable. I’m sure you know all this! LOL) Your site is my first stop every day when checking fav blogs. Hope you are enjoying the rainy day. Blessings.ReplyCancel

Really pretty card and embellie. You could do a similiar thing with your button punch or button die. You could also use those alcohol inks to color the garage sale button stash to match exactly what is needed at the moment. You get such mileage out of your “toys”. It is wonderful to see and learn and be encouraged to keep thinking, experimenting and crafting. Being frugal doesn’t mean ugly or cheap looking.
