Well I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas!!  You bless me!  Thanks for weighing in on my new theme.  I know that many of you got an error when you tried to leave a comment but those comments were coming through.   We’re working on it so if you see that error, keep trying and eventually it will go through.  Now on to the winners  . . .

The first three people to respond were Steph M, Cynthia Williamson and Madelyn.  I also said that I would pick one name randomly to get some goodies – and I picked number 41 which matches up to Olga Jewell.  If you could kindly reach out to me within the next 48 hours,  through the contact tab at the top of the blog and let me know your addresses.

Thank you all for helping me test out the new theme.  A little bit more tweaking to go to clear up the errors then I’m ready to go.  Stay tuned for the new features I wanted to roll out.  They are coming soon.

Becca, I was thrilled and delighted to be one of your first posts purely by accident and the time difference I’m sure. I always check my e-mail first thing in the morning and Christmas day is no different this year because it has not been a happy year or many reasons. My only e-mail was from Amazon so because I always feel uplifted by your cards I checked your site. When I saw the changes I just had to say how beautiful it was.
I have tried to contact you via the contact option but no matter how many times I spell the words correctly it still says error. My address is
    11 Goulds Villas

As you can see I live in England so will not expect a gift, however I would be thrilled to get one of your lovely cards.
Best wishes for the year ahead,XO

I think the new look of your blog is very pretty, BUT I will say that like so many things nowadays that are set up to be pretty it’s never as easy for us visually impaired people to read. ODBD - Christmas Blessings Card

Hey there!!  Christmas shopping is done right? Not!!  Just checking, lol!!.  I have a card to share today before I need to get some pressing Christmas business done.  In the meantime, squeeeeezing in another Christmas card using the new Christmas sets from Our Daily Bread Designs.  This one is called Christmas Blessings.   I made a peek-a-boo window for the sentiment and used Spellbinders Labels Seventeen as my focal panel.  After I had the card pieces ready to go, I decided I wanted to add a third color – black.  Instead of having to rework the entire card, I added a panel in black to the back of the card to give it a little bit of accent color.  I’ve never done that before and I like it!!

ODBD - Christmas Blessings - Window

I added a row of scallops in my accent color using Spellbinders Classic Scallop Borderabilities Petite and more accent on the inside of my window using Spellbinders Lotus Borderabilities Petite.    I had to go with the green button just to keep it in the Christmas mold.  By the way, I found the funnest thread at Michaels.  It’s luscious embroidery thread that has wire in it.  Go figure!!  I threaded it through my button and then was able to do those crazy squiggles.  I’m saving up for the other colors!!

CARD RECIPE
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – Christmas Blessings
Paper : The Paper Studio – Mirabella, Bazzill
Ink : Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories : Spellbinders Classic Scallop Borderabilities Petite, Spellbinders Labels Seventeen, Spellbinders Lotus Borderabilities Petite, Ribbon, gems, button, wired embroidery floss

Big hugs friends, I’ll check in with you later!

Pretties Kit - small

Hi there, peeking in on this fine Saturday morning. Do you have waaaaayyyy too many craft supplies? Today I have a project that’s been on my work desk for several months, my frugal pretties kit.   Lol, I’m recycling.  By peeling off a portion of my working supplies (that I’ll never be able to use) I’ve created a Pretties Kit for one of my friends, that won’t break the bank.

Pretties Container
In my meanderings through Hobby Lobby I came across this inexpensive bottle set ($5.00) and thought it would be perfect for my endeavor.  I took some of my favorite lace and ribbon  from my stash and tea dyed it – so simple – why don’t I do that more?  It’s easy, I took one large tea bag and brought it to a boil and dropped in my lace for about 10 minutes (cotton lace – always test on a scrap before you use the good stuff) .  Yes, you can over do it – the longer you boil, the darker your item gets – (smirk) ask me how I know this.  From purchased tulle, I rolled this rose and folded two leaves.

Pretties Kit Bottles
I loaded my bottles with pearls, corsage pins and earring backs.  To keep the pins upright, I put in a little bit of shred but I’m sure there are lots of other options.  For the bottle with earring backs I padded the bottom of the bottle with tulle so that the earring backs float right up at the top.  The tulle is not needed but I think it makes the ensemble look pretty because you can see what’s in the bottle.
Pretties Ensemble Bottle
Of course there has to be a matching card to go along, right?  I think this new sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs shoots right to the top of the list of my favorites.  The new set called Blessings includes Count your blessings.  Name them one by one. What a stunning way to tell someone what they mean!  I opted to put this on the front of my enclosure card and on the inside I’ve written, “I count you!”   I used a couple of elements on the card, which measures 4″ x 4″
On my kraft base I layered and matted design paper which I stamped on directly.

Pretties Kit TagFor a topper I added Spellbinders Scalloped Borderabilites Petite with a small element from Spellbinders Fair Isle Pendants.  At the top of the card I added a small decorative element from Spellbinders Lattice Pendants.  I then set in my twirled rose and leaves along with more of my tea dyed ribbon.  And, of course, I added a pretty – to show the recipient how to use the kit.

For my tag, Spellbinders Standard Tag, I echoed the same elements – the scallop and the small Fair Isle piece and tied on some of the tea dyed ribbon.  I’ll package it in a basket or tie it up in cellophane and call the job done!!

I hope that as all is going well during this busy season of “have to do’s”!!  I hope you’re clicking through your list and can call the job done!

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs:  Blessings – Full of Grace Collection
Paper: My Minds Eye, Bazzill
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Classic Scalloped Borderabilities Petite, Spellbinders™ Lattice Pendants, Spellbinders™ Fair Isle Pendants, Spellbinders™ Standard Tag, ribbon, lace, pearls

Count your blessings, name them one by one.  Of my blessings I count you!!  See you soon friends!

What a beautiful homemade gift to make for someone. I absolutely love the items you placed inside the bottles. Corsage Pins, Pearls. and earring backings, are all pretties a women can always use.

May your Christmas be filled with all that makes you feel special and loved.ReplyCancel

  • Francie (Montreal)December 18, 2010 - 1:51 pm

You are such a clever cookie! It’s beautiful.

And now I see how you close the bottom of your corsage pins. I’ve been combing the ‘net looking for answers with no luck. Earring backings! How ingenious. It’s been gnawing at me for the longest time, but I’ve been too shy to ask you.

This will be a great improvement to my current situation. I’ve been issuing warnings with my cards which have pins without ends. “open with caution – sharp inside”. Rather takes away from the card, wouldn’t you say?

So now I know and I’m just thrilled to bits. It’s probably the best thing that happened to me all year. Can you see my big smile? Thank you soooooo much, Becca.ReplyCancel

Another great inspiring idea! As I was looking at the project, I thought ‘aha! now I know what I can use those little syrup bottles for that I have collected from ‘Cracker Barrel”. They are just cute little bottles that I have used for storing my aromatherapy blends, but they would lend themselves to this project. By using them and my other left over odds and ends, this project would practically be free! :o)

I have many to be counted this year, two surgeries for my husband (one very serious), and he’s doing fine. All 15 grans are happy and healthy and my friends are such special blessings. I also count among my blessings the ability to go on line and see such wonderful projects from you very talented bloggers. Take care sweet one.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
You and I are so much alike! I could see each other in a craft store hunting for all the deals and how to think outside the box on how to repurpose an item.
I have always liked the pins you place in or around the ribbon on your cards because you add extra beads and things. What I didn’t realize is that you use an earring backing to secure it. I cannot believe that I had not considered that as an option. I kept thinking back to my old stick pins (I hate to admit I still have some) and the base that was used to secure them. I will have to go and find me some long pins and some earring backings!
Great inspirational idea! I’m sure many of us will use the same idea in our own way. It goes to show that we don’t have to spend a large amount on a gift but spend a little time to make something so sweet.
Blessings to you from the Great White, White, White North!

Morning Beca, this morning I got up at 5 and decided to make a tulle flower. Or I thought I was going to. Could you please share your secret, I can’t seem to get the tulle to look solid like yours. And the tulle is so thin. Thanks so much for sharingReplyCancel
