I hope that you and your families are spending time together and celebrating the reasons that make today this holy day so important.  I have a full day with family and church but set up a post for Easter Day with a little card to share.  It’s sweet little Tilda sitting on top of an Easter basket.  Every month one of the designers with Magnolia-licious issues a challenge and this month our challenge was a sketch you can see HERE.  I flipped the sketch over so that I would have a valance on top from which to hang #441 Flower Basket.  The basket is large enough that I could seat #3049 Tilda with Flower in Her Hair.  I’ll give you a little hint though – Tilda’s head would have hidden that beautiful bow on the basket so I clipped it and moved it up.  Instead of fussing with cutting out the flowers on the stamp I simply cut them off and layered on my own flowers.   For the valance I used an EK Success Border Punch and for the tag I used Spellbinders™ Tags Five

The sketch challenge is open until the end of the month and I hope you’ll play along – you can see the other Design Team Cards on the Magnolia-licious Highlights Blog as well as details for the monthly challenge.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Magnolia-licious – #441 Flower Basket, #3049 Tila with Flower in Her Hair

Ink:  Memento – Tuxedo Black
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Tags Five, EK Success Border Punch, Buttons, Ribbon, Prima Flowers

Have a blessed holiday, friends!!

Well, all I can say is ……
“Count me into the Becca fan club”!! I just now ran across you and I truly have to say I fell like I’ve hit the “Bonanza Gold”…..here in California…… Again!! You just blow me away with your talent Miss Becca!! I thank the good Lord for giving you not only the talent but, the desire to “share” with the rest of us who truly need your inspiration. I am new to card making though I have done considerable scrapbooking in the past. Now I find I want all those nifty tools you use to get your results. I feel like a kid in a candy store Becca…….I want one of these and one of those etc. etc.!! :) So much fun! Your card making is on my mind a lot I guess cause as I drove to work yesterday I saw a sign over an antique shop and immediately said to myself……..”I know that shape, Becca used it on a card I saw yesterday”. Yes, I’ve got it bad I’m afraid……… Anyway….a BIG Thank You for all your help, and as I sit often alone at work in an old historic haunted hotel in the California mountains at night……..I have your beautiful art work to keep me inspired and excited to get home and try some of them out!

Oh my gosh, love love LOVE this card! Such sweet colors and papers and FANTASTIC coloring. You make me love Mags a whole lot more than I used to!ReplyCancel

Some time ago I asked what kinds of card you wanted to see me attempt.  Overwhelmingly the answer came back to see more masculine cards.  Well I honestly ran and hid because I did not know where to start.  It is said that one often meets their destiny in the road they take to avoid it.  There’s no doubt that I was avoiding making masculine cards until Our Daily Bread Designs revealed their April Releases.  There are two sets that deal with men, mens birthdays and Father’s Day called Dad and Happy Father’s Day.   I think I had myself convinced that a man card could not have a bow  . . . I changed my mind.   If man can wear a tie or a bow tie – I’m gonna put a bow on his card :-)  That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

I know this is an unconventional card – that’s just where my muse went today.  I created a background using three Spellbinders™ Mega Ovals LG and matted them using Spellbinders™ Jumbo Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite.  For embellishment I used my favorite Spellbinders leaves, Spellbinders™ On the Vine Border Grand.  I took my design to the inside this time . . .

On the inside I fashioned a tag using Spellbinders™ Ribbon Tags Trio Two and added scallops to the bottom.  The K & Co paper I selected is rich and earthy and to me, suited to a man, even though it has flowers.  I can’t wait to get more "men" cards in the works.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs: Dad
Paper:  Bazzill, K & Company
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black and clear embossing powder
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Mega Ovals LG , Spellbinders™ Jumbo Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite, Spellbinders™ On the Vine Border Grand Spellbinders™ Ribbon Tags Trio Two, Ribbon, Prima Flower , MM Brads

Have a blessed day friends!

Becca – After reading the inside quote, I thought it applied to you today as well…lol! God knew this stamp and paper were being made some time ago, and He knew your talent would follow the steps he had planned for you for this. And, since every man has “some” feminine side to him even if he won’t admit it, the bow adds to this card in just the right way. Keep up the good work now that you’ve gotten over your stage fright. Terrific job as ALWAYS!ReplyCancel

To take the bow away is just cruel and unusual punishment! Thats your trademark Becca!!! If you are afraid of bows on masculine cards, try using a thinner ribbon. Thats what I do for my masculine cards. I was challenged to make a birthday card for a co-worker, male of course, and I knew his favorite color was red, no problem but I do everything girly, duh! I searched my stash, and came across a Paper Studio stack in 8 by 8. Perfect! I thumbed through and found a black and white argyle pattern. I used that as my mat punched butterflies out with my ms butterfly punch in plain black card stock and embossed them with irridesent embossing power. I doodled a flight path and glued the butterflies on and added a thinner red ribbon on top for a pop of color! He absolutely loved it!!! It was definitely a challenge because I knew only that he liked red. Well, I’m off the make hubby a birthday card for tomorrow. He loves ice cream and cheese cake, HUMMM!ReplyCancel

Well it’s no secret that I love, love, love Impression-Obsession stamps and have quite a few in my stash.  This week Stamper’s Dream is doing an Impression Obsession week with some of those lovely images.  I am such a fan of Gary Robertson, the artist who does line art drawings for IO.   I know I’m gushing but he must have had stampers in mind when drawing because he puts shading and hatch marks in just the right places that make it look like I know what I’m doing when I color it.  In other words, it’s easy and and it looks like I made a fuss when I really didn’t. My image today is an Impression-Obsession image called Sunflower with Butterflies.  For the picture below, if you click on it, the linked picture is very large and you will be able to see better.

Just like the tag says, I tried to keep life simple.  I colored the image and went with a basic card design.  I put a partial cut of Spellbinders™ Labels Eight on the bottom of the card to break up the print and seperate some of the pattern.  I also  added a simple Spellbinders™ Double Ended Tag for the rub on sentiment I used.  I love the jute ribbon because it looks a little rustic.  I threw the pearls in there to make things wacky.  I love this image!!  Next time it’s getting distressed.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Courtesy of Stamper’s Dream – Sunflower with Butterflies
Paper:  Lasting Impressions – Gardener’s Diary, Bazzill

Ink:  Memento – Tuxedo Black
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Labels Eight, Spellbinders™ Double Ended Tag, Walmart Ribbon, Michaels Pearls, Copic Markers, Lasting Impression Rub On Sentiments

ETA:  Copic Colors used will automagically (don’t let this word throw you, it’s real) appear here later this morning after I have had my coffee, ugh!!

Please be sure to visit the other Stamper’s Dream Designers that have special Impression-Obsession images to share with you.  You’ll get an eye full when you visit Michelle Rodgers, Laurie Schmidlin and a wonderful new addition to the team!!

If you read down this far wanna know how much of a geek I am?  Well, I have a little tidbit to share with you.  I found the neatest blog the other night which has absolutely nothing to do with stamping.  So often when I’m writing my own blog post I envision saying something I’d say in real life but then I wonder if people will think some of the idioms I use as odd.  I google them and long story short, sometimes I get it right and sometimes I get it wrong, way wrong.  Sometimes when I go back and read what I’ve written I wonder if people know I’m a college educated woman, lol.  The site I found was Grammar Girl.  I sat and read and read and read.  It’s a testimony to my geekiness how excited I got about this site.  I even texted my daughter to tell her about it .  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – I’m a stickler at spelling (except mine – **smart alecky grin**), and she’s a stickler about correct usage and correct pronunciation with emphasis on the correct syllable.  Are you rolling your eyes yet?  I’m not perfect, but I cringe when I see a professional sign with misspelled words (yep, in this day and age of the spellchecker).

Well if you made it this far, I think you deserve a prize!!  So my regular readers (whom I love dearly) ignore my grammar, but there is a misspelling in this blog post, somewhere.  If you already picked it up, you probably thought I was crazy for spouting off about misspellings!  If you can find it and email me at my contact page – the first three of you will get one of those cute unfinished little clipboards that I used yesterday to make THIS.   If you are one of the three, I’ll email you back to get your address.  Please know,  I have been known to make mistakes so if I goofed and have more than one misspelling, I guess I’ll have to add another prize :-)  ETA: All the clipboards are gone!

I love your post — both your fantabulous card & the part about spelling and grammar. I’m not college educated, sadly, but I love to play with words. My hubby and our kids & I make up silly words all the time! I am amazed at some of the horrible errors I make in the last few years since leaving the working world. I was a Legal Secretary for many years and know only too well how a typo can have an effect on what you meant to say! I did spot your two “typos”, but also think I like “automagically” so much, I’ll now be using it!!! Thanks for a smile today, Becca!!!ReplyCancel

Funny Grammer site–she reminds me of an IT person–noncommittal! I’ve been a software developer/Project Manager for 25 years and after estimating for so long (and then changes in specs, etc, etc), I myself, tend to avoid committing, too. Always condition your committment–something is bound to change… :)
Another wonderful card, Becca–more country and laid back than usual, but beautiful as usual! Love the ribbon–where do you find all your cool ribbon?? And one other question–when you give your cards to someone, do you always put them in an envelope? If yes, homemade? Just curious… Happy Monday…!ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,

I love your ‘rustic’ card. Really nice and I think I’ll CASE it, if you don’t mind. You are the designer that I look to, first, for my inspiration.

I see that others have caught the ‘seperate’ misspelling. But I think the ‘eye full’ is ‘eyeful’, as well. Actually, it might even ben ‘eyesful’ as I would think that anyone, with half a desire, would look at your work with both eyes. Ha ha!

Anyway, I just thought I’d communication with you, today. I never mind it when people that I like make missteps in writing. But, like you, I shudder when I see a professionally-made poster or such with critical errors. Our language (especially, here, in Canada) seems to be going to pieces.

Have a good week, my friend. Look forward to the next post.

    Lovingly, SueReplyCancel

I’m sooooooooo glad spelling and grammar matter to others. It drives me crazy! I get professional letters from companies that have major errors. My newspaper needs a proofreader and I have a favorite blog that I love to visit, because she’s so creative, but her grammar makes me nuts. I seen this and I seen that puts my teeth on edge. You’d be surprised how many, many use seperate for separate. I see it all the time. Thanks for admitting to making errors sometimes, me too. Mine is usually not that I can’t spell, but that I can’t type. Have a good day and smile at all this.ReplyCancel

    Me again!

Good grief! I even made an error in my post! How shoddy is that?

The ‘ben’ should have been a ‘be’. Guess I was just empathizing with you. Hee hee!

    Later … SueReplyCancel

  • Sue WMarch 29, 2010 - 9:10 am

Mercy! I made another mistake! I wanted to ‘communicate’ with you but, in my hurry to get my message off, I didn’t even check it. Bad, bad, bad! Always check and check again! A teacher once told me that.

Anyway, I think that this is the final effort. Hope it gave you a smile, if not a chuckle.

Oh, how beautiful, Becca! The stamp is amazing! You make it look and sound easy, but I know there’s a lot of the fabulous Becca worked into that image, also. BTW, I noticed your misspelled word and just for a minute I thought I might have been spelling it wrong all this time (I don’t use Spellcheck) — yikes! Had me worried for a minute there! I wasn’t familiar with “automagically”, but found it in the Urban Dictionary. Got me thinking… Fun post, Becca! Thank you for the warm welcome!ReplyCancel

This card is beautiful!! I adore sunflowers, and this is a wonderful stamp. The word automagically is a great word, but you misspelled separate.ReplyCancel

Becca, You always make me smile. I work with an A Type personality boss…he is a stickler when it comes to grammer in our letters…but he can’t spell…even though he has spell check on his computer, I am his dictionary…I feel like I am in a spelling bee everyday !! Loved your clip boards, I just have to make some for my family, I have 2 sisters, a mother, and grandmother who all love to cook, so I will try to find some mini clipboards. Thanks for the inspiration! Keep the great posts coming. Hugs Teresa E. in So. CaliforniaReplyCancel

totally fabulous card Becca. LOVE what you did with the image and the ribbon! you are amazing girl!

Love the fun spelling hunt too—unfortunately, since i always make up my own stupendaculous words, I often cannot pick out ones that others post that are mispelled :( oopsie!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, Beautiful card. I loved the automagically joke too. Mabwe we should all lighten up and enjoy the ride. They say the things that annoy us the most about someone else are the things we do not like about ourselves. Thanks for all the fun, PattyC,ReplyCancel

  • Theresa HarrisMarch 29, 2010 - 12:09 pm

Wow, am I late! “Seperate” is such a fun way to spell separate isn’t it. Also, “I wonder if people will think some of the idioms I use as odd.”, I thought the word should have been “are” odd, but since no one else mentioned it, I guess I’m wrong. Thanks for all your wonderful creations, Becca, keep on keepin’ on!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca! Read thru all the comments to see what others had found. I got really interested in comments made. What fun the Grammer Girl site is. Been all over your site, her site, your Splitcoast stampers site and He only knows where else. LOL! Two things:
First, I saw no one who seemed to catch this. I know it is gramatical error…but, I am one of those long and faithful readers and just wanted you to know.
Second, I love what Grammer Girl had to say about typos:
So, given my long history with typos, it has become my belief that it’s nearly impossible for someone to accurately proofread their own writing and be consistently successful. Think about it: If I produce 1,000 words a day, and I let 1 typo slip by every week, that’s actually a 99.986% success rate. If you think about it in terms of letters rather than words, since most typos happen at the level of letters, that 1 typo a week equates to about a 99.997% success rate.
    Have a Blessed Day!ReplyCancel

  • Pam HeroldMarch 29, 2010 - 12:58 pm

Shucks! I forgot to add the gram error.
In other words, it’s easy and and it looks like I made a fuss when I really didn’t.

I’m with you on the spelling and grammar thing! In Canada, we are taught not to end a sentance with a preposition, so there isn’t any ‘where are you at?’ nonsense up here.
That said, here in Montreal we seem to have a lot of people that ‘do not!’ check spelling/grammar when creating signs and menus, in particular. They want to be independant, so they forge ahead on their own. Unfortunately, by not checking first they make everyone here look uneducated.
I giggle a lot up here ;)ReplyCancel
