Happy Valentines Day my sweet friends!  I am getting the queen treatment today but wanted to stop long enough to get some blog business taken care of.  At long last I’ve finished the Woven Lattice Tutorial!  Yay!  Even though I have used it here for Valentines Day, it will also be perfect for Easter.  I originally created the Woven Lattice in December 2009 and could not figure out exactly how I did it.  Well, I’ve figured all that out now and in the making of video created quite a few panels.  I can do it fairly quickly now so I created a basket and companion card to give to my Hubby today.  When I was thinking on what to do with the panels, I knew that I wanted to use this stunning Waltzingmouse Stamps set (called Seasons of Love) featuring a filigree heart (before it was too late – whew, just in under the wire :-)  Claire’s stamps are truly magnificent and this set is no exception.   I love, love, love the accent stamps like the little heart flourish that I was able to put on each side.

I created a box with a large scallop for the lid – I’ll share the template as soon as I can get it down on paper.  Under each large scallop I used Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Circles LG cut in half.   For the body of the basket  I used Spellbinders™ Scalloped Edge Frame and created four of the Woven Lattice Panels.   I used the large heart on the basket and cut it out with Spellbinders™ Classic Heart – I also used Spellbinders™ Classic Ovals LG to cut out the center oval.   For the matching tag I used Spellbinders™ Ribbon Tags Trio Two (with one end clipped off) to make a medallion that also includes Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Ovals LG.  Keeping it simple, just a tied ribbon around the body and the bow is perfectly framed by the hole in the heart.

Lastly, for the handle I cut a long strip with a Martha Stewart border punch that I lined up to cut on both sides making the handle symmetrical (aha…answering this ahead of time because I know someone will email this question, lol!!)

I created a companion card to go along with the basket.  It’s a side open card (which I rarely do) and It has all the same elements as the basket.  I reaaaaaallly got into making this set – ahhh the pleasures of stamping!

Project Recipe:
Stamps:  Waltzingmouse Stamps – Seasons of Love
Paper:  Bazzill, The Paper Company
Ink:  Martha Stewart
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Classic Hearts, Spellbinders™ Classic Ovals LG, Spellbinders™ Scalloped Edge Frame, Spellbinders™ Ribbon Tags Trio Two,
Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Circles LG, Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Ovals LG, Martha Stewart Border Punch, Pearls, Ribbon

So you wanna try?  Below I have a Guide that you can download that will serve as a roadmap of sorts to use along with the video tutorial.   A word of warning . . . this was a very difficult video to produce, I had to reshoot it more times than I care to admit.  Please look upon it with a kind eye, I am using the most basic equipment and I think I’ve stretched it beyond it’s capability.  You may need to pause the video to read some of the captions because the text capability of Windows Movie Maker is severely lacking.

You can access the video tutorial here:

Now, on to the Blog Candy Winner! My goodness to sit and read the comments and the things you all have put on your list to do rather than dream about brought tears to my eyes several times during the week.  My daughter came up with the idea of the bucket list and I was afraid it might offend someone.  Well I was so wrong – you all just jumped right in and shared your hearts!  So….drumroll!!!!

Random.org picked #264

264 corresponds to Becky Johnson who said:

Congratulations!!!! You are truly an inspiration to many. That is your Gift. #1 on my list is to walk again. I have had MS 37+ years and was recently diagnosed with arthritis. We all get it sooner or later but it’s a poor mix. I’ve walked until a couple of years ago so I’m lucky and God willing, I will again. I am always upbeat. And I’m a fighter. Your blog and all your creations are very important to me
and give me the inspiration I need.
Peace. Becky Johnson

Congratuations Becky – you are the winner!!  Please shoot me an acknowledgment through my contact page and I’ll get your items in the mail to you.

Yes, this was a long post today, thank you all for hanging in there.  Be blessed and have a wonderful Valentines Day!

Hi Becca – I’ve been waiting for this one; could send pictures of the mutilated frames I’ve tried on my own. But you made it so incredibly simple.
I was not able to get to the .pdf file for the template. I think I can work from the picture but would like to make some notes on it if there is a bigger copy.
Also is there a preferred ribbon width (and length). And have you tried it with the double sided ribbon? If so, how does that look?
    Thanks again so very much!!ReplyCancel

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Your tutorial was great, too.

A couple of questions…how much ribbon does it take to do the weaving? Do you cut the ribbon off the spool ahead of time or just take it from the roll as you are doing the weaving. I’m actually going to try it and hopefully won’t get too frustrated. Thanks again for taking the time to drawn the diagram and make the tutorial! Happy Valentine’s Day!

    Hi, again…

I just love this project. I have this MS border punch, but I can’t figure out what you mean by lining up the paper so as to cut both sides for the handle so it’s symmetrical. I guess I’m just too dumb to live…LOL I tried folding my paper in half and punching, but the paper was too thick.

Can you tell us how you did the handle specifically? Pretty please??? LOL

Oh, I know just who will get this for Easter!!! Thanks for the detailed video and for the lattice ribbon weaving guide. Did you know that there is such a thing as a ribbon weaver? I use one when I weave ribbons through English smocking on granddaughters’ dresses. It’s a flat plastic “needle”with an eye just wide enough for narrow ribbon! Your head must actually spin with creativity. Simply AMAZING BECCA!ReplyCancel

Our sweet friend Michelle Rodgers is under the weather so the Design Team for Stamper’s Dream all got together to send her healing thoughts.   Hope you’re back on your feet soon Michelle!   Now if you got here from Laurie Schmidlin’s blog, you are in the right place.

I’m sending well wishes to Michelle with this little birdie.  I cut the frame with an AllDeco Punch and the Ornament Chickadee is from Impression-Obsession. The sentiment comes from JustRite Stamps and is embossed with Versafine Black Onyx.  The birdie is colored with Copic Markers, easy peasy!  Your next stop along the way is with Dawn Easton.

Card Recipe:
Stamp:  Impression-Obsession
Paper:  The Paper Company, Bazzill, K & Co
Ink:  Versafine – Black Onyx
Accessories:  AllDeco Punch, Offray Ribbon, Pearls, Copic Markers

For those who asked about the lace flowers from yesterday, yes, I will make a quick tutorial – it was actually very simple so the video should be short and sweet (even with my longwindedness :-))

I also said that I would announce the winner to my Blogaversary Blog Candy this morning.   What was I thinking???  There were over 1500 entries and I promised a bonus if the winner left a list item every day, so it looks like I have a bit of reading to do, lol!  I’ll post the winner back here on Sunday morning.  Thanks for your patience, and if you have not read the entries for the Blog Candy, they are amazing – you can see them HERE.

See you tomorrow!

    Beautiful card Becca.
Now, I left a comment everyday on your blog candy post but if, in the very unlikely event that I win, I’m unlikely to be able to claim the candy. I’m off on vacation Sunday afternoon and, as I’m in the UK and 6 hours ahead of you I will probably have left for the airport by the time you post the winner. I will give congratulations to whoever does win and hope that they will enjoy the candy as much as I’m sure I’m going to enjoy my vacation … safari and beach for a really relaxing break and 3 weeks of it as well!ReplyCancel

  • DianeFebruary 14, 2010 - 1:03 pm

2 questions if you don’t mind… 1. The sentiment from JustRite… is it from a set or did you create it from two font sets on your own? I’m just getting into JustRite Stamper products so wondered if this is from a set I should be looking for or if I need to keep collecting the various font sets! LOL!! And… 2. You put beautiful bows on most of your cards… but how do you mail them??? Or even put them into an envelope for giving??? I make cards because I live far away from most family and even friends because of a recent move so all of my cards have to be mailed. I’ve thought about trying a bow and sort of stuffing it with tissue paper or cotton or the like and see how it works in the mail but I’d love any suggestions that you’ve found to be tried and true.

Thanks… as always I LOVE your work!

You still have until Friday night at Midnight to enter for the blog candy.  Read about the rules and enter HERE.

I’m using one of the new sets from Our Daily Bread Designs called Nest.  The sentiments are wonderful and cover so many occasions, so I’ve made a card that can be used as housewarming, welcome to the neighborhood or just a gift.  In order to get the sentiment to fit on the tag I created, I used my Stampamajig to split the sentiment in half – ya gotta love that tool!!   I was intrigued by the shape made when crossing two Spellbinders™ Labels Four and used it as a mat for my oval medallion using Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Ovals LG, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals SM and Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals LG.

From my stash I had a piece of lace that is actually raw on the edges and is probably used for insertion in heirloom sewing – it just seemed to add a little bit of interest to the underlying green ribbon.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – Nest
Paper:  Bazzill, Graphic 45 – Florentine, K&Co. – Lifes’ Journey
Ink:  Versafine – Sepia
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Labels Four, Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Ovals LG, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals SM, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals LG, Copic Markers, Pearls, Ribbon

Thanks for stopping by today.  Mwah!

Hi Becca, Hope you and your family are doing better. I’m still praying for ya too. You’re card is beautiful. Your coloring is beyond compare. I study your work and try to use your technique when I color. (I didn’t say I achieve it, but I try.) What a nice gift this card would be, for someone to get when they move into your neighborhood. As for the “B” list……..My husband lived in Idaho when he was a young man. He traveled all over the west and from Canada to Texas. He loved it. He’s talked so much about it that I have wanted to go there too. Well, you know with work and getting a start in life, building a home, having children (5), we didn’t have the time or money to go. Now the kids are out of college and out of the house, so now’s the time, right? Hopefully if life doesn’t get in the way, my Sweetie and I will get there. That’s the Plan! Thanks for letting me try to win your fun candy. I would sooo love to win! Blessings! Patty W.ReplyCancel

Your cards are always wonderful, Becca, but there’s something about this one that really sings to me. Maybe it’s the colors, the stamp, the design – everything you do is inspiring.ReplyCancel

You are right – the “ribbon” is called entredeux (between two) and it is used as insertion between two pieces of fabric – usually a fine cotton batiste! With the opening being so wide, this probably would have been used as beading with a fine satin ribbon woven in and out through the bars – maybe you can try that technique with your entredeux on another card! I used to do lots of French heirloom sewing by hand and machine when my darling neices were young, I sure miss all the special requests for American Girl doll clothes! Now they are in college – I’ll have to hope for lots of grands!

Your card is exquisite, I have Label 4 and I am in love with how they look crossed! Brilliant, as always!ReplyCancel

Another beautiful card, Becca. The deep green ribbon is stunning…a comforting color to me. Another bucket list desire would be to have a week long workshop with you. I don’t want to copy your art, however, I would like to learn a sense of how you put things together; what is the creative process that you go through.

Thank you for giving us this topic to dream and share.ReplyCancel

Becca, this card is absolutely beautiful. The nest in the oval really looks like it is embroiderd and still in the hoop. You never cease to amaze me. Thanks for always sharing.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca. I’ve thought of another item for my bucket list. I would like to scan all my photos and put them on disks for safe keeping. Plus i could share them with family members.

Such a pretty card today. You know, I’m kind of curious about your scrap area. Have you ever taken photos of it? I’m sorry, I guess I’m just nosy, lol. Take care,

It’s a beautiful card and a wonderfully creative use of the ribbon insertion strip. Incidentally, that’s what it is. Not lace. And you were right in your guess concerning one of its uses. It was a common element in Ladies ‘intimate garments’ in times before elastic. Ribbon was threaded through, gathered and tied in a knot or bow. So it was both functional and decorative. Today it’s usually just a decorative element.ReplyCancel
