I spent an obscene amount of time picking papers for this . . . ugh, why, why, why!!!! But, now that it’s done, I want to make more! You must know that it is near and dear to my heart because is has some of my fabric charms from my hoard stash. I love using fabric on things and the charms I used here (Moda Garden Party) were just the right size. Even though my caddy is constructed from paper it is a usable item an I think it will stand up to fair use. I do have a pincushion right on my desk to accommodate anything sharp, but I swear when I go to look for a needle or safety pin . . . poof – never there!! I used some of the new sewing stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs and I loved using the die with the stamp because that meant no fussy cutting on the spool and tape measure motif!! I used Spool and Tape Stamp then cut out with Spool and Tape die then stamped with Sewn with Love sentiment.
The book is 3″ x 3″. If you are interested in the how-to for folding the book, there’s a pretty straight forward version at this link: http://www.making-mini-scrapbooks.com/accordionorigamibook.html. After the book was finished, I glued my fabric to one side and added square pieces of felt cut with pinking shears as inserts. I did not glue down the felt so that I can actually pull the entire piece out but it can easily be done with glue dots.
I offset the seam binding so that it would wrap around the folded caddy two times to the left and so that it would wrap around the folded caddy two times to the right. That gave me enough ribbon that I could tie it like shown below or .
. . . like a gift package as below.
This was a fun project to play around with. Normally I make a mock project then I go back and neaten and figure out shortcuts and the like. Well, this is the mock up, lol. I plan to do more because I want to use my sewing machine on it and want to create a box for it to go into . . . next time around. This is definitely one for the quick gift pile, (lol, unless you take forever to pick papers like me)!!

Thanks for stopping by to see me today. I’m clicking away in the background, working on things here and there, but I have what I think is a pinched nerve. It’s so annoying because it’s keeping me from sitting down for prolonged periods, standing isn’t so hot either, but laying down is a-okay. So guess what I’ve been doing – yep, laying down reading stuff. I can get through about two pages before I nod off . . . lol!
That is such a cute idea. The card isn’t bad also. Just teasing. The color and style of the card is so bright and cheery. Love it. Thanks Becca. Hope you are doing well.
What a wonderful gift to give the seamstress in the family or a friend. I absolutely adore it! Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
this is verry cute becca, only stuck on picking papers. i have a hard time deciding everything. you made great choices. little sewing kits like this are alomost extinct. it’s like the great american race to find a needle threader anymore. one thing i noticed on the comment form my name is coming up automaticly. is that one of the backsceene thinks your tweaking? have a great day and rest your back. then get a good book. if you pick a classic you can look brainy if anyone catches you snoozing. :)
Hey Becca, I know what you mean about the needles going missing! I have about 5 little needle holders, each stuck in it’s own little place. So If I need one, I just go to one of those places. Though mine aren’t nearly as pretty as yours!
Hugs, Jess
What a clever idea. Your project is so pretty and oh so sweet. My pins and needles are in my junk drawer not a good idea. LOL!!! Very nice work. As always Becca, TFS!!! :-D
You are truly amazing. I look forward to your new beautiful creations each day.
Absolutely adorable–I, who cannot find the time even to make a card, will probably never get around to this but I would love to be gifted with one so maybe I will try.
You are God’s gift to cardmakers. May He take away your pinched nerve.
Becca, what a creative mind you have! This little needle holder is gorgeous, and what a great little gift it would make! Thanks for sharing! Have a great week!

Sorry to hear about your pinched nerve. I know from experience how painful that can be. As far as nodding off when reading that is also me. In order to stay awake I have to be in a vertical position. I love the needle caddies. I have several that belonged to my mother-in-law. Years ago they used caddies to advertise. Some of the needles look almost like harpoons. Makes you wonder what they would have used these for. I think I am going to make some for my grown grand daughters to use in college. I don’t even know if they know how to thread a needle. Hope you feel better.
Ouch! A pinched nerve in the back hurts, disables and is downright nasty. Hope you can stay abed until it mends. But I have to say, it is lovely to hear from you and your darling sewing book is cute and brilliant. I love the way Marlene (comment 7) put it. You really are God’s gift to card makers. So get out the ice and/or heating pad, rest up and feel better soon.
Great idea – so pretty!
How cute! I love this little sewing book. Sorry for your back misery! It hurts and is down right miserable. Rest and get well!
Sorry to hear of your pinched nerve and wishing you well.
Love the Shabby Needle Caddy! God bless.
Becca,
What a fantastic idea. I have many quilting buddies, they would love to recieve this needle caddy. Your paper choices are perfect…What a wonderful Christmas gift! I hope that pesky nerve issue is gone and you are up and running!
I just love your needle/pin caddy. You did a beautiful job, well orth your time.
I think it would be a awesome gift with a pair of earrings &/or a pin/brooch
What a wonderful way to keep you special jewelry, safe, almost like each piece was in a frame.
Blessings to you all, Holly
isn’t that ever so cute, and great idea, hope your pinch nerve gets better soon, I know what a pain those can be.
You are SOOO FUNNY Becca!!!!!!! Hope you’re feeling better soon!!!!! I’ve noticed the posts have been few… BUT, understand!!!!!!!
LOVE your little needle pouch!!!!!!!! You did a LOVELY JOB on it!!!!!!!! Don’t feel bad, I do the same thing with my projects!!!!!!!!! :)
GET WELL HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh this is so cute. I do a lot of handwork and can see this as a neat new addition to my sewing basket. Plus a great gift for a few of my sewing buddies. I sympathize with you about the pain. Lying on a heating pad is something I have to do on almost a daily basis, book in hand, nodding in about 5 mins. LOL
Feel better soon! Hope you find the right doctor..sometimes that takes time.
Beautiful Becca! I really love how this turned out – and I understand about taking so long to choose the paper. I am exactly the same way. LOL!

What a cute little gift idea! Everyone needs to sew a lost button back on sometime! I think I might put some safety pins, thread and a few loose buttons in mine.
I think you must have the mind of a genius. Wow…….
God blessings wished for you and the family…… Denice
So sorry to hear about your pinched nerve. I know from experience how painful that is. No Fun. I love your needle caddy. Not only practical but so pretty. I think anyone would love to receive one as a gift. I made a little pin cushion like yours, just where do those pins and needles you need disappear to. Pin cushion sits there looking pretty and useful but it never seems to hold what I need. Hope you feel better.
Blessings Bernie

Adorable and what a great idea! I’m sorry to hear about your pinched nerve, ouch! Here I was imagining you enjoying some time off, doing fun things. Sorry to hear that’s not the case. Hope that you feel better soon. Love the spool of thread/tape measure and that fact that it’s got a matching die!

Awesome project, Becc! So sorry about the pinched never, I get them all the time!! I hope it goes away quickly for you!! Hugs!
So sorry to hear you are suffering from a pinched nerve. It can be not only painful, but like you said, it slows you down because you can’t sit or stand for very long. Praying for you!
Becca, I know I have already commented on this wonderful design of yours but I had a thought (not always a good thing) but what if you used fabric with a facing on it on the whole thing, do you think that would work?
This is a very special project since yesterday I dream I do this project… And in my dream the project is complete and full of those fancy Becca pins. A very nice collection ready to use for all those cards a dream I do..you have a beautifull effect on me . Mille merci. Francine.
So sorry to hear you are suffering Becca, May the Lord heal you quickly,
Love your sewing book — you amaze me! Be well.
Such a clever idea. Great to give to anybody, but especially a friend that sews. Edna
I have that pinched nerve problem also. Riding in the car for extended time is terribly painful. I flew in a cramped airplane seat for a 4 hr trip one way. I was fidgeting so bad trying to get comfortable. I had to stand up. I couldn’t stand it any more, even with pain pills. The stewardess told me to stretch by bending over and reaching towards the floor. I could feel that area pulling. It did seem to help.
I also have developed something similar when I try to lay on my side. The leg gets painful. I always lay on my side to go to sleep. How are we ever to find a comfortable spot? If you find a remedy, please let me know. I have had injections into my spine to help the pain. The result is only temporary relieve. The pain eventually comes back. Good luck to you.
Oh my word Becca!!! What an amazing idea! So beautiful!
