Strength and Courage

Hi there blog friends.  Yes, I know I’ve been quiet for a couple of days.  I’ve been finishing up some maintenance work behind the scenes on my blog.  The first part of this year had been so wonderfully busy that I didn’t want to spare even one day to take it down to look under the hood, lol!  I put it off until I had no other choice.  You won’t necessarily see a difference, but my blogging platform was upgraded – the first in a couple of steps to troubleshoot some annoying issues I was having.  Thanks so much for hanging in there with me.  In the mean time today is a special day – JustRite Stampers has created two special stamp sets to acknowledge and celebrate cancer survivors.

JustRite Crafting For a Cause

In an effort to find an early diagnostic test or screening tool for Ovarian Cancer, JustRite Crafting For a Cause will donate 20% of the sales from Be Strong and Courage and Strength in 2011 to Ovarian Cancer Research.  To learn more about the symptoms of this “silent killer “ visit www.OvarianCancer.org.

The two sets I mentioned above are Strength and Courage and Be Strong.  I hope you’ll click on the link to see both of the sets.  Do you have preference in rubber or clear?  Although different, both of these sets share the familiar ribbon motif and I’m happy to say that one of the sets is being introduced as clear stamps – this is JustRite’s first set of clear stamps.  Below in my post I’ve shared the chart that shows the different ribbon colors that correspond to the different cancers.  That means that with one of these sets, you can actually tailor a card for any cancer cause you choose.  For my card today I chose pink to support breast cancer.  I lost the love of my life, last fall, to Multiple Myeloma which is burgundy.  I’m working, trying to work, on several scrapbook pages about some milestones in his disease and I’ve planned to use several of these motifs.

Now for my card, as I mentioned, I picked pink and used the Strength and Courage Set.  I used a couple of my fav girly papers that I knew would match.  I created a medallion using Spellbinders Picot Edge Circles as the base, then built up using Spellbinders Blossom Tags and Accents.  I topped off the medallion off using Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps:  JustRite – Strength and Courage
Paper:  Xpedx Brilliant White Cover, The Girls Paperie, Colorbok – Flea Market
Ink: Memento – Tuxedo Black
Accessories: Spellbinders Blossom Tags and Accents, Spellbinders Picot Edge Circles, Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG, Lace, Ribbon, Pearls

The inspiration for todays stamps are thankfully provided by Amy Tedder, The JustRite Stampers Illustrator who herself, is an Ovarian Cancer Survivor.  Her story is so inspiring that you won’t want to miss it at the JustRite Inspiration link below.  In the meantime friends, thanks so much for stopping by to see me today. Hug a special woman in your life today and more importantly, save one of those hugs for yourself!!  Be sure you hop to the other members of the JustRite Design team to help us all celebrate!!

So happy to see you back. I checked in every day, and am glad that it was “blog” maintenance and nothing more. The card is fabulous!! So beautiful.
I lost my very best friend to breast cancer two years ago. She was 50. She left two boys, one 13 and one 20. A year later, her husband died of lung cancer. Totally unbelievable. The oldest son is raising his brother. I was so sorry to learn of your husband’s passing.
My heart, my prayers and my deepest sympathy go to you and your family. It is unimaginable until it happens to you or someone you love. Your spirit, your craft, and your generous sharing of yourself on this blog say so many wonderful things about you. God bless you and your family, and to all those out there who have suffered a terrible loss.ReplyCancel

Becca your card is just gorgeous. Love the shabby-chic look of it. It’s so pretty how you have woven the ribbon thru the die-cut. Beautiful work Becca, Thanks for doing the color chart on the ribbons, I never knew that there were so many ribbon colors well you learn something new everyday. As always Becca, TFS!!! :-DReplyCancel

Thank you, of course, for your luscious card, as usual. I just drool over your creations! But thank you for the ribbon-color list. My precious niece just completed an 18 week chemo journey for uterine cancer. I’ve been sending her cards (and even made some thank you cards for her to send out), but I want to make one using the peach for her particular case. I didn’t know the color until you posted it. Thanks. And keep hanging in there after the loss of your dear John. You are a tower of strength in our eyes. The Lord is able!ReplyCancel

What a gem this is! The color of pink brings forth its beauty so vibrantly. I am a survivor along with a younger sister but have lost two brothers, my dad, his brother and mother(my grandmother and uncle) to this enemy. We do thank God for His allowing us to be here to speak to others of His grace and goodness. Thanks for using your precious God-given talent in sharing such love with us.

So glad to see you back. You’ve spoiled us with your daily delights so when you miss a day or two I worry about you, especially after that story about the spiders and snakes. :) I am glad it was just computer issues. Your card is absolutely stunning. I love all the various elements, paper, ribbon, lace and colors are all so strikingly beautiful.
What a great cause. We have lost loved ones from my father’s side of the family to nearly every cancer on that list and at the moment my daughter is being treated for breast cancer so this cause is close to my heart.

Becca, your card is gorgeous, as usual. It is hard to associate such beauty with the pain and grief of cancer. I lost a sweet aunt to breast cancer and my beloved grandmother to pancreatic cancer in the same year. I am sorry for your cancer journey with your husband and pray you will find healing. It is so good that Jesus came to provide for those who grieve and to give us beauty for ashes. Thank you for sharing your skills to promote cancer research. Your card would be a blessing to a patient

Welcome back, Becca! Thank you for making and posting this gorgeous card, and for providing the chart of colors for awareness ribbons along with links to these two new stamp sets.

I am hoping that all women who are not aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer will visit the website you mentioned and learn about them. Ovarian cancer is often called “the cancer that whispers” because symptoms are not clear cut and distinguishable from symptoms that could be caused by many other things. Also–a Pap test will NOT detect ovarian cancer. Please listen to your body and get checked out if symptoms listed on the website persist for longer than 2 weeks.

My younger sister is a Stage 4 ovarian cancer survivor. She was in denial for several months before consulting her doctor, so had to go through several surgeries, rounds of chemo, and much pain. I thank God–again–that she is doing ok today, though she will probably have more chemo in her future. I apologize if this is TMI, but just hope others can avoid what she has had to endure.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
In 2009 I was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Juvenile Granulosa cell tumor. I was miss diagnosed by 2 doctors. By the 3 time I saw a doctor he listened to me and found a massive tumor that was 8 inches long and was taking over my body. I had surgery and 8 units of blood transfusion. I had to take 6 rounds of chemo and after all I have been through I had an amazing fighting spirit. On June of this year my cancer has come back and I had to over another surgery another mass was removed and 2 small spots in my intestines. This time I had no symstoms at all. I have a wonderful doctor in Houston who has taken excellent care of me.ReplyCancel
