I’m giddy that I had time to play! I’ve been hankering to use a new border die that was jumping out of my stash. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it and have another card coming to show you how crazy wonderful this new die is – Spellbinders Shells Duality. OMGoodness! Oh, and I have been dreaming about using the Minced Die Cut Borders Technique I created, with black paper. I love how it turned out!
Walk Through on How to Make the Card
Base
The base of the card is 5-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ on black card stock. I used the same black paper cut to 4-1/2″ x 7″ as a dummy layer to affix the Shells Duality border to. All of the leaves for this border are unattached on one side so I simply slid my paper underneath each leaf and it created a special treatment on the edge of my paper although it essentially hides half of the border.
Focal Panel
Since I knew I was going to Minc these dies I copied three of the Spellbinders Astoria Label dies using my copy machine and then ran the copy through my Minc Machine to apply gold foil. Then I cut out each label (you can see the pieces below after I cut them out). If you don’t have a Minc Machine you could apply gold on the edges using a gold leaf pen.
Embellishment
Not much embellishment for this card because the gold is so bold. I reached for Spellbinders A2 Tranquil Moments and cut out the pointed filigree element. I cut the element in half and applied it to the top and bottom of my stamped image.
Here’s an up close of the sentiment. Unfortunately it is no longer available (to my knowledge) but I just can’t bear to let it go from my stash. I have lots of stamps like that – that need lover every now and again :-)
If you are not familiar with the Border Technique here’s a quick summary.
I have quite a few posts here about the technique and tips on finding the right printer. You can read more about it at these links:

Such a beautiful and elegant card. You have created another masterpiece. Thank you and have a good evening.
This is such a different card, Becca. We don’t see black featured very often here. But what a dramatic effect is has pared with the gold. So lovely!!
I’m happy to see the minc works on colored paper and not just white. Very cool!

Beautiful! Such a creative use of these dies.
Hi Becca, This is a stunning sophisticated card and a show stopper. Art deco is my favorite look at the moment and this is a sensational adaptation of the design. No way could I duplicate your card but I can give a try at mimicking it. Thanks for a really special card. Barbara
How strikingly beautiful, Becca! Your talent and gentle sharing are so inspiring. Thank you so much.
Well I don’t mind saying that you have out done yourself. This card is simply beautiful. I have worked with lot of black and white but have never thought of using gold as the main focal point.
What an ingenious way you have with the paper. Absolutely Beautiful you are so talented. I hope you cherish this gift from God that he has blessed youwith
This is really funny, Shout out to Rosemary (cousin) who blogged just ahead of me. She worded my thoughts perfectly. I love the gold with the black – so very stunning! You continue to “amaze” all of us, Becca.

Hi Becca,
wow no internet for 2 weeks! Looks like I got it back in the nick of time. What a beautiful sentiment & card. I have most these dies & have to give this a try x
Morning Becca, This tutorial is fabulous !! the card is very striking, but always elegant, I how the die-cut ‘holds hands’ with the next layer, really lovely.
I must re-look at your minc videos, my memory is terrible !!
I’m off to Church now. Take care and Bless You.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
Hi Becca
This is a stunning card, the black and gold really pops, beautiful dies too X X X
WAUW this is really different from your normal style Becca, but it´s really elegant and would be the perfect card for any male, I´m sure. Hubby just looked over my shoulder here and said wouw this looks really cool, and he very rare express this kind of comments on anything, so for him to do that, I know, it´s really awesome in a mans eyes too.
I really love the gold on the black it sure gives that really elegant look. It´s awesome as everything you do Becca.
And I hope the week ahead will be just as good as your day yesterday too.
Wow, this is so opulent and strikingly beautiful.

Hi Becca. Such a striking and dramatic card. With a Gothic feel. Love it.
Wow Becca. Such a beautiful card. The black and gold combination is so classical. I love it. Xxx
Hi Becca! Hope all is well with you.
I’m so used to seeing all white cards or light colored cards that I was shocked when your website loaded and there was a card in black!
I love how your card is outlined in gold using the MINC and how you used the Shells Duality die to hold your layers in place! Very cool!
Oh Becca, this is just perfection and the verse if so beautiful.

Stunning!!
THIS is why I come back again and again to see your creations! I can NOT tell you how giddy I got when I saw the way you wrapped the”g” of angels around the lower border of the frame. Amazing! And the sentiment is quite fabulous. I totally understand why you keep and use it even though no longer available. Thank you for sharing!! Love it!
Striking!
Beautiful work – alays inspiring. Thanks Becca
Dianne
AWESOME on black! Becca you are so clever to use the art deco die to “hold” your sentiment layer. So glad you are having some time to create your cards.
This card is absolutely stunning! Love the dramatic effect of black and gold.
Gorgeous!!! I always enjoy the cards you make that are white with gold, but this black with gold is outstanding! This could definitely be used for your more masculine cards as well. Specially with these deco dies. Thanks Becca.
There’s something so captivating about black and gold – it’s dramatic, it’s exciting… It’s amazing how it brings light out of darkness! I love this sentiment. When I realized that today would have been my Mom’s 90th birthday, this was a beautiful way to remember her.
Blessings and gratitude,
Sandy
Very very pretty Becca. I am saving up for a Minc Machine so hopefully will be able to do some beautiful cards. Thank you for sharing.
