Where have I been, right? Oh, busy, busy, busy ;-). For me I know this is a sign that slowly but surely things are getting better. I had to take a break with that back hip pain – thankfully it is mostly gone, but I think it comes from sitting too long. So I managed to get up and do some of the things I’ve been ignoring for the past nine months. One of the things I’m tackling this weekend is my studio. It has become somewhat of a hazard with only a narrow path to get in and get out. Remember the boot? Well I’ve learned (the hard way) that the boot in conjunction with no where to walk equals trips and falls. So I’m doing a little bit of purging and hope to have a handle on things before the Hoarders show comes knocking on my door! Well enough of my babbling, in my purging I came across some paper that I purchased years and years ago; I gingerly relegated it to the donate pile. I think I thought about those couple of pieces of paper all night long because I had such hope for them. I just knew I would cut the beautiful tulips out and layer them. When I was cleaning this morning, I looked at the pile again and instantly decided, there was no time like the present.
Using an exacto knife I cut the tulips from this design paper (three sheets) and stacked the three layers with each piece of the tulip being successively smaller. After spritzing each layer with a fine mist of water, I used my huge burnishing tool to cup each layer. I used an Our Daily Breads Designs sentiment from one of this months releases called Seeds. I used Spellbinders™ Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilities to create the inlaid design along the edge of the card and used Spellbinders™ Holly Motifs along with Spellbinders™ Classic Squares LG and Classic Squares SM to frame the sentiment.
Sigh, I love a tall card, I don’t know why I don’t make them more often. This one will fit into a business sized ten envelope!

Beautiful card. I have always shied away from “layering” and build up for a card but this makes me want to try. Really love this. Please share pictures of your studio when you get “organized”. Would really love to see where you create such wonderful art.
I had to look up which Spellbinder was the RicRac. I like how it looks on your card. Great way to use repeat patterns or multiple sheets of paper. If you are like me, I buy stuff I already have but have forgotten I have already purchased….This is why my kids are ready to call The Hoarders to come rescue me from myself…

You have been missed and your card has inspired me to do an elongated card as a covering for an electric circut breaker in my kitchen. That would be a great cover as it would bring summer into the kitchen. That is what I like about joining lists…such creativity and inspiration.

What a beautiful card. As I have said in the past, you do some of the most beautiful work. I know what you mean about the hoarding. I am going through the same process of trying to get rid of some stuff. Everytime I lay something aside to donate or put in a yard sale pile, I think that I just might need that item to make something. I think we crafters have more of a problem letting stuff go than non-crafters do. I love how you did the tulips. I would like to see a tutorial of this card :)

What a gorgeous card. Would love to see a tutorial on how to build the flowers like that. I, too, am in the throes of redoing my craft room, which I’ve had to put on hold temporarily while we get the house ready for in-home hemodialysis for my husband. This is nearly accomplished and I look forward to getting back to working on my craft room. I got tons of inspiration from a free webinar sponsored by scraprack.com. So much wonderful and useful information on organizing. I highly recommend looking into it.

I too love tall cards, but makes them very rare, and don´t know why, cause they´re soo elegant. I think, it´s because we don´t get any envelopes here for this kind of cards, they´re never tall enough unless we take an A4 and it looks foolish. Your tulips turned out soo wonderful hun, and I´m glad you managed to make something of these papers at last.

Becca, I have been collecting paper for years now. Before I started making cards, I did tons of scrapbooking. I actually have this paper buried in a pile marked “Very Old”. I keep meaning to weed out some of the really old stuff, but just haven’t gotten around to it. Back when I was regularly scrapbooking, I would buy at least five sheets of the papers I really liked so I am sure I have that many of this one as well. I thought I would probably do the same thing – layer it. But that technique was so tedious that I just never got around to it. Lovely card. Are you still wearing that boot? I can’t believe you have had it for that long. That is probably what is causing your hip pain. Hugs.

How pretty is this! Simply charming! I love tulips and am particularly fond of the way you’ve layered them. Nobody does it like you do, Becca. You are one of a kind.
It never rains but it pours. Seems like you’ve had way more than your share of difficulties one on top of another. The good thing is that you’ve got everything it takes to resolve them. I pray you continue on the path to healing. I have been busy also with Irene in NY. I’ve had some water in my basement but nothing compared to many who have lost everything. It’s nice to take a break and come across your beautiful creation. It is just stunning.
I know what you mean about your studio. I think those of us that create say OOOh I can make something beautiful out of that trash and tend to save too many “treasures”. I also have to purge every now and again.

As always, your card is very pretty and the tall size is striking, perfect for the tulips. I’m stuck in a rut making the same size cards so this is yet another inspiration to try something different. I’m in fall-cleaning mode but how to tackle my hoard of card making supplies, maybe I’ll start by weeding out paper in colors that I don’t care for:). Take care and thank you.

Beautiful card, Becca! I love tulips and the way you cut and layered them. You must have a very steady hand to cut these out with an exacto knife. I’ve always struggled getting nice crisp cuts with exacto knives.

Beautiful card. Sorry about the hip – I have a problem hip and sitting is a REAL problem. Many times when I get up I can’t stand up and walk until it “gets into gear,” which at times takes some doing. Glad yours seems to be getting better. I fear mine is a sign of old age and deteriation.
Love the technique you used on your beautiful card—not just layering and popping, but cupping the layers! My head just does not go there without someone like you to teach me! Thank you, again!

wow – we must be on the same wavelength! my studio was just like yours – every time I would walk past another “pile” more stuff would fall on me! finally, I made myself go downstairs and Just Do It. what a lot of junk I found! finally got rid of all the woodsies that I loathe from years of craft camps for kids (which we finished in 2004!), all the glass pieces that I have no reason to keep, hardened glue bottles, dried paints, stiff and dirty brushes, florals, and some stitchery items someone gave me that I will never use. It looks worse now, but next weekend, I will put the keeper items away in their new happy places and -voila!- walking will not be hazardous there anymore! take it easy on your hips/back and do a little at a time. remember to stop when it hurts. one thing that helps is to take whatever pain medicine you use before you begin. good luck with your project!
This is gorgeous ! I love the 3 dimensions achieved with layering – seeing the results and also doing it myself. Your tip to moisten the paper before shaping is a step I often forget to do – I’ll attempt to remember it. TFS

WOW, looks like I fit right in here. After reading some comments, I had to laugh, hoarders with bad backs from sitting too long in the same dang chair to make BEAUTIFUL cards like the ones seen here on your blog.
I have a homemade ice pack I made out of a snack baggie (perfect size) and some ice cubes, of course. Once you use it, it melts and when you freeze it again it becomes one whole piece of ice the same size as the baggie. I wrapped a rubber band around it and then slipped an old long scarf underneath kinda like a sling shot would look (really dating myself here, lol). I then tied the scarf around my waist loosely so that the ice pack would sit on my right hip while I sat in my crazy uncomfortable chair to do the craft I love so much. It’s amazing how much it helps when I stand up and try to walk again. Good Luck with yours! Hugs, ~Jody
I have been going through my stash also the last two weeks. I figure if I haven’t seen it, used it, or thought about it for the last 6-9 months, it is time to share the wealth with someone who will. I have a box full of stuff, papers, and goodies. I am have 2 sisters-in-love that I am going to have a garage sale (the price is really reasonable free) and what they don’t want, I have a friend with 6 daughters who might enjoy it. By the way, I do like the card you made.
