Sweet blog friends, I haven’t even begun to make a dent in the cards I’ll need for the Christmas season, so today is one in the bucket. With luck, this year I’d love to have at least twenty handmade cards before Thanksgiving – I can wish! I went with traditional colors but reached for the Holly Frame Background Stamp from JustRite Papercrafts to get started. I love backgrounds but like to separate the elements into layers, so that’s what I did here.
First of all, I knew I wanted a die cut background layer but most of my Spellbinders Nestabilities didn’t cover the size of the background stamp so I simply cut Spellbinders Timeless Rectangles in half vertically and hid the opening by covering it with the small filigree element from Spellbinders Exquisite Labels Eleven. I stamped the background three times and one one layer, fussy cut the scalloped outside border, on one layer cut the inside rectangle and on one layer fussy cut the interior scalloped oval. I put foam tape between each layer but cut out the Oval using Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG. That gave me a frame and inside I stamped using Christmas Inner Thoughts.
Here’s your Step-By-Step Recap, from the bottom up, just in case you’d like to make one too. Start out with a card base cut to 5-1/2″ wide x 6-5/8″ tall. red layer 5-3/8″ x 6-1/2″, foam layer, gold matting layer 4-7/8″ x 6″, red layer 4-3/4″ x 5-7/8″, foam tape, die cut layer using Timeless Rectangles, foam tape, stamped scalloped layer, foam tape, stamped rectangle layer, foam tape, stamped scalloped oval layer.

I am so glad you mentioned a few tips, as cutting one of the dies in half to fit the large stamp. There are a lot of layers to this card though they don’t jump right out when we first look at it. Oh my goodness…just 4 months away! The best time of the year! Your card is lovely. Makes me want to break out into carols. The layers, the bow, the stamp, simply everything fills me with joy and goodwill to man.

There you are, been worried about you! Glad to see you getting in the spirit with this beautiful card. Took me a minute to figure out how you pieced with my slow brain but wow, look at that! You are so smart and talented. Keep those beauties flying to the bucket!
This is so exquisite. It would be so neat to get one of your cards, truly a gift!
On the background stamp where you say you stamped it 3 times, did you color the holly & ivy with markers 3 times. I looked at the stamp and from your great tutorial know you use a stamp placement tool, but this is so detailed; I can’t figure out how you got that background to be so perfect. Even coloring would be hard; because of the details.
So Beautiful!!
Becca love how this is put together, the many layers make it look very interesting . I just love your style and try and do it when I can.
Hugs Trish.
Love this color combo! Gotta try it! You always inspire me! TY!
Hi Becca… your card is so beautiful, but I would like to know how did you stamp with the Holly Frame Background Stamp? If you don’t feel inspiring making cards you can make tutorials. Your tutorials are so instructive. I am very grateful to you for sharing your talents with us.

Becca, you are so clever! Loved your trick to hide the cut in the frame. I learn so much from you! Thank you so much!
How true it is, “The magic of Christmas”.
Gorgeous, and with such detail, Becca! Very innovative of you to vertically cut the die cut and join them with another. I, too, am wondering how you stamped the background 3 times. Thanks for sharing with us.

This card is so elegant Becca and the colors are soooo rich and deep. Beautiful!
Hi Becca,
Love the card, but by all the most of the comments, I believe this may require a video…just a thought. With all those hidden tricks, it is a wee bit hard to comprehend. Statistics show most people would rather see how something is done, than be told. Nonetheless, it is a work of art, and it is very beautiful. Keep up the good work.
Absolutely exquisite!
BEAUTIFUL! It’s time to start thinking about holiday cards! OH MY! Love this Becca!
Absolutely Beautiful!! Love the traditional Christmas colors. Christmas will be here before we know it! Hugs?
This is such a beautiful card and I had to come by to say what a special treat it was to meet you in person at the retreat! I hope our paths somehow cross again sometime :)

I love the way you edged in the gold. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
