Rescued from the scrap pile!! Isn’t that every piece of paper’s dream? Here’s my reasoning . . . if I’ve used it before then I must have love it! I needed a quick card last night so I hit the scrap pile (sits next to the reject pile). This was the left over from a pocket calendar that I did so I just shaved off the top of the pocket so that I would have a top panel. The colors already worked, so in my process, that eliminated the hours I take to select paper (I think it is a sickness, lol). I wanted to showcase this new sentiment (love, love, love) from Quietfire Design called With Heart, the Impossible Is Possible. It’s so simple, pretty and true and just my luck that I could get it to fit inside Spellbinders Fancy Tags Two (backed with Spellbinders Labels Eighteen). If that’s a sign of things to come – bring it!!
Not much to detail on this card, I gathered up my lace, seam binding and pearls and voila!!
Yesterday I had a little a-ha moment that makes me almost embarrassed that I tend to be a little bit impatient. I had to pick up a couple…(okay 12) sheets of paper at Michaels for a project I’m currently working on. Because it is, what it is, each sheet of paper has to be rung up individually. The lady in line behind me kept tapping her foot, tapping her fingers, sighing, looking around and then a hrmph. A minute later, tapping the foot, tapping the fingers, sigh, hrmph. (It became so patterned that I probably could have filled in for her, lol!!). My goodness, she was sooooo over the top with it that I learned how truly unattractive being impatient is. I had to bite my lip not to say something to protect the clerk (a very senior lady that is finding herself having to work again). I’m fortunate, my Michaels is a dream and everyone there is soooo nice.

Oh Becca, I know that person you are talking about. The one in line and the one that it back at work when she should be enjoying her later years. Becca — I can totally appreciate the time it takes to pick out just the right colors. That is something that I agonize over, and because I have gathered so much paper, there are simply too many choices (not that I’m complaining). To further complicate the matter, I’ve downloaded DP modules from StampinUp and now can print whatever I want or need.

I am so pleased with your comment about being nice to the clerks. They have to put up with an awful with all of us customers & our coupons! I admire their patience & courtesy, because most of the time they surely are. Occasionally I may get one that is not so much that way, but one never knows what kind of day the person is having. And yes, when I see an older lady behind the register, I can’t help but think “There but for the Grace of God”. In today’s economy, who knows??? And TFS such a lovely card. By YOUR standards, it is much simpler than your usual (I wish MY scraps & rejects should look so good!). Colors are wonderful, and the presentation is just lovely. Have a good weekend. Hugs

LOL – a quick card for you a little more involved for others. As a part time sales clerk thank you fir your story. So many people don’t allow enough time during their errands and then get impatient when they gave to wait. Might have been fun to ask her what the tune she was tapping out was. This card is so lovely. I know what you mean by scrap pile. My family gives me grief sometimes over my inability to throw anything away that might be used on a card or in a craft project! I “rummage sale” in the summer and got really lucky last weekend…found a box full of sewing supplies with about a dozen packages of assorted seam binding and lace in some yummy colors – all for $2. I appreciated your story about the impatient lady. We all need to say a kind word to any clerk or waittress that looks like they might be having a bad day…it could, like the clerk in your story, be us in that situation someday.

I feel sorry for people who cause so much stress in their life by getting upset at something as silly as having to wait in line for an extra few seconds. That poor clerk. I feel so sorry for older folks who HAVE to work.

Too bad about the impatient customer, you did a good job of bitting your lip.
How fitting your sentiment is to your story! Your heart showed compassion so the “impossible” impatient wait time, became possible.
Bekka, I know what you mean. I just hate to see someone “abusing” someone else but in my case it was the Clerk that was disrespecting an elderly customer. It was clear to everyone that the customer was confused and with a little kindness, things would have progressed better than they did. I asked the customer if I could help her and she graciously accepted my offer. Once I got her to her car, I went back into the store and asked for the Manager who came right away. I told him what had happened and that I was no longer going to visit his store because someday, by the grace of God, I’ll be elderly and would hope people would treat me fairly and with respect. My first inclination was to fuss at the Clerk but then, wouldn’t that have just perpetuated a bad situation? I do not know what, if anything, happened but I felt good knowing I tried to behave (as my Moma always taught us) and sent someone on their way feeling OK about people in general. God Bless You and keep you in his loving embrace and thank you for always sharing your beautiful talent.

Beautiful card, Becca. It’s great you could pull it together quickly. I understand what your saying about your experience at Michaels. I have that happen to me, and we have young checkers at mine. I think what people are annoyed with, is that we are in line ahead of them, and they wish they could just move past us, check out and be on with their “busy” lives. It really just conveys an attitude of “I’m better than you and I shouldn’t have to “wait”. I’m like you Becca, I try not to say anything, check out and leave, and thank God I’m NOT them.

I have worked in the meat dept. At walmart for the last year. I am sure getting an education on how people behave in the grocery store. You wouldn’t believe how many times I have had to return items to their proper place as people just lay things anywhere, when they decide they don’t want it. They don’t care if frozen stuff is left on a shelf where it will thaw and spoil. Then, they wonder why groceries are so expensive— cause the store has to cover the price of all the spoilage!

Even your “quick” cards are lovely, Becca! Really like the lace and seam binding bow on this one. Also love the look of the pearl swirl brought up over the ribbon! As for the woman at Michael’s… someday she to will be older and hopefully will have learned if not patience at least manners! Seems we’re all to busy, busy, busy these days to bother with all the little social courtesy’s that make life so much more pleasant. Congrat’s on “turning the other cheek”. Hope that the rest of your day was much more pleasant!

Becca, that is so true. I used to manage hundreds of people. Then the bottom fell out and I haven’t been able to get anything more than cashiering at our local Target store. Most people are nice, but I did have one lady throw a dress at me, ha, ha!

Having spent a large portion of my working life in retail, I thank you on behalf of the clerk. Some folks have an overly large portion of self-importance that sometimes must be addressed. Even as a manager I was threatened by these folks….there simply is no pleasing some people. TFS this beautiful card.
Scrap pile, indeed!!!! I try to use mine too, even if just a strip across the card. Pretty paper is just that no matter how you use and you do make wonderful use of yours. I’m afraid that impatience is becoming an epedimic. I watch it everyday on our streets and highways, people weaving in and out and not really getting anywhere, but certainly endangering everyone else. And I’m afraid rudeness, without any concern how it will affect the other person, is just rampant. The Golden Rule stills applies or so it should. Kindness not only builds the other person up, it does the same for ones who give it. Bless you for not turning around and staring!!! Tempting though, huh???

I hate seeing rude customers – I was taught to be polite to everyone …oops! showing my age again. Growing up in New Jersey with all of our toll booths, my Mom always said hello, thank you & have a good day. We used to tease her “Mom, it’s their job” But, thankfully that sunk into my everyday thinking now. Whenever, I hear a rude customer I always make a point to be a little bit louder when acknowledging the cashier, especially if the person is still standing there (& they usually are). I think make the cashier’s day – who wants to be disrespected?
Beautiful card. How did you do the pearl curlicue that wraps around the ribbon? As far as your Michael’s story goes, sad to say, but isn’t that just the way of our society now….it’s all about ME, the world revolves (or should revolve around me.)

The only thing worse than putting up with an impatient unhappy customer is to be that impatient unhappy customer. Like ‘they’ say, (who ever ‘they’ are) “Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle” We simply don’t know the background of someone’s life to make them behave poorly. Rejoice it’s not us.

Oh, wanted to let you know that I went to Home Depot and picked up some of the things to mk the peg bow maker. I think it will be wonderful for me as I have hand issues. (I use to actually tie LOTS of beautiful bows among other things at a design shop and sold them—even huge pew bows for weddings, but I had an autoimmune illness strike that crippled my hands almost overnight. SO, I am hopeful that this idea will help me tie bows once again! Very excited. ;-)~ Terry

I had to laugh when I read your note about Michaels. I work there everyday and the impatience can be a more than a little annoying.
The registers keep track of stock so every item has to be done separately. I usually smile when I see them tapping their foot! Being a “paper addict” I particularly enjoy ringing up the paper because I get to see it and touch it! There is so much paper there that I often overlook some of the most beautiful pieces! I find most crafters a patient and understanding bunch! The ones tapping their foot only run in for one item and do not take the time to enjoy “browsing” the store.When the paper is marked down to 10 cents a sheet, I’ve bought 200 sheets! That takes awhile!!!LOL
