With Sympathy

Good morning sweet blog friends.   Thank you so much for your sweet comments yesterday. I’m peeking in today to share one of those cards we hope we don’t have to make, but we do.  My daughter questioned me about why I’d want to glam a card like this up.  I told her I knew the recipient would appreciate it.  Speaking from a place of experience . . . so many of the cards I received were so pretty; it was a comfort to me and I was touched by the time and care that I could see my sweet friends had put in.

I’m using  sweet calla lilies  and sentiment from two Our Daily Bread Design sets called Loving Memories.  I stamped my image and colored it before cutting it out with Spellbinders Tags and Flags; I cut an extra shape out by cutting around my die template with a craft knife.   You’ll see my favorite new oval frame from Spellbinders™ Jewel Framed Sentiments (used yesterday) peeking out from the top of my tag.   Then, I framed my sentiment with Spellbinders™ Venetian Motifs and stacked the sentiment on top – cut with Spellbinders™ Jar Labels.  I’m so loving that tag, I turned it upside down to use it and the decorative bottom is so pretty!

Hugs and kisses to you all!  Glad you could spend a moment with me today.  I’ll see you soon!!

Just beautiful and I love to make pretty sympathy cards, I think it cheers them at a time when they really need it. I just got this set and now I have some inspiration to use it. Thanks!!ReplyCancel

Becca this card is beautiful and you are so right, the very first time I made a sympathy card I decided to make it nice and bright and cheery, if you notice all the shop cards are drab and dreary as if the poor grieving souls aren’t feeling blue enough without adding to their woes…go for it and continue to spice them up I love it,

Thanks for sharing and keep well Susan XReplyCancel

The dreaded cards but we all need to make and send them. Your card is beautiful. When my son died I received some beautiful cards with verses stamped inside they were received with such warmth and comfort. I like how you have embellished your card. My condolences to your friend but I know this card will give her lots of comfort. As always Becca, TFS!!! :-DReplyCancel

LOVE THIS CARD! I think when you make a card it tells the person receiving it, that you have taken the time and thoughts for them in making it specifically for them. I had a co-worker who lost his mom recently and even though we had become less friends than at one time, I knew how much his Mom meant to him and had to let bye gones be bye gones and make and send him a card. He called me to thank me for a card he described as “one he will keep forever.” That meant alot to me and he knew I had put my heart and soul into it and had him in my thoughts when I made it. I use a lot of embossing on white on my sympathy cards. Looking forward to receiving “your” stamps which I won. Thanks, Becca.

We strive to make all of our cards beautiful, so why should a sympathy card be any different?! Obviously, no one wants to give or receive a sympathy card, but it’s part of life so it may as well be as pretty as possible :)

You certainly managed that, as always :) I love your ‘Becca bows’ too – c’est bon :)ReplyCancel

This is such a pretty card, Becca! It’s good to know what the recipient needs, especially during the worst of times. Showing love through anything handmade is so valuable!

I always struggle with sympathy cards because I don’t want to say the same thing all the other cards say. I want to bring hope, encouragement and support, not shared sorrow, even if it’s so. Perhaps you’ll be moved to come up with some sentiment stamps for sympathy cards that are what comforted you most when you needed it.

I hope this day is as lovely for you as you are!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, This card brought tears to my eyes because my mama passed away a few months ago and loved receiving cards so much. These were her colors too. I regret that because I have not had the time to get organized with my scrapbooking/cardmaking hobby, I never got the chance to sit down and make her cards . I thought as soon as my grand children got in school (this year will be their first year in school) I would get on the ball and get a craft space set up and get busy. For some reason we all think we can get to it, but I didn’t and I will always wish I had made myself just take the time for her. Life is so busy and now it is too late. So for anyone reading this, please don’t put off telling those you love how much they mean to you and spread God’s word every chance you get. Time is so short. Let’s all take as many to Heaven with us as we can. God bless….. DeniceReplyCancel

Hi Becca, I think your card is beautiful and that any person who receive that card would feel better just knowing that you spent time making a card for them and that you are thinking of them.
I spent 2 weeks in Orlando and went into every Michaels and Joanns and Hobby Lobby and I NEVER found the stunning bling and pearls that you always have on your cards! Where do you find them? You are amazing!ReplyCancel

What a beautiful card! I used to hate saying that about sympathy cards because of the reason they’re sent, but when I looked at yours I thought, “beautiful is needed for these moments.”ReplyCancel

  • facsmomJuly 27, 2012 - 4:41 pm

I do so agree with sending elegant sympathy cards. Sometimes there are no words-for you to say to the bereaved or for them to say to you. We always say a picture is worth a thousand words. Maybe we should change that to a hand crafted (I almost said homemade but that sounded too plain for the work I know we all put into our cards) card is worth a thousand words. I created a Bekka inspired all white card when a co-worker lost a grandbaby totally unexpectedly. The final product just helped me see that baby safely in heaven. I know it was appreciated.ReplyCancel

I am also curious about your pearl swirly bling, my question is, is it mounted on acetate or similar? On the right hand side it appears to have no visible means of support, or doesn’t appear that they are stuck to the card anywhere? The swirled pearls I have seen all have a sticky back to them, and would not sit nicely like that without something under them to support them.
Other than that, another amazingly beautiful creation from my favorite card-making guru! LOVE IT! Do any of your videos show how these are assembled like that, step by step?ReplyCancel

Dear Becca, Thank you for sharing your ideas in ref to sympathy cards. I have never realized that anyone would appreciate bling and pearls on a card, but am so glad you pointed out the reason to put them on them. I shall start putting them on my sympathy cards and going that extra effort to make them as stunning and pretty as all my cards. I adore this card, it is gorgeous and stunning with the pearls and bow!

I agree with you, over and over people tell me they appreciate the time and thought that went into the card, any card. I give them out when I want people to know that I care enough about this occasion in your life that I sat down and MADE the card to give you, because you are that special to me. I think you are definitely on the right track. My husbands father passed away several months ago and I helped his mother send the thank you notes. The family got a homemade card from a couple that I suspect they didn’t know that well and probably hadn’t seen in over 10 years, I was like WOW, that is so nice of them.ReplyCancel

I love all your heart crafted cards! If I ever needed a sympathy card it would be to have one of your heart crafted cards :o)

Actually, if you could pray for my dear sweet father-in-law Don ( lovingly known as Pa Bear or Bear-Bear) who is in the hospital right now. He just turned 85 and as we were planning to celebrate his birthday with a family dinner his intestine decided to fold back into itself. They did a procedure that is seeming to be working but he is not out of the woods yet he may need a Colonostomy (?sp.).

So any prayers would be greatly appreciated! {{{hugz}}}ReplyCancel
