Welcome to the Our Daily Bread Designs October Release Blog Hop!  This
month’s hop is all about the upcoming holidays: Christmas and Thanksgiving!  We are excited to be sharing our projects with you today!  If you got here from Julie’s blog then you are in the right place.  If not you may want to peek at the list which is posted on the Our Daily Bread Designs Blog so that you can start from the beginning.

This is my first Christmas card of the season, (I think), and I decided to go with non-traditional colors.  I used the new O Christmas Tree Carol background stamp and a sentiment from the Perfect Gift.  The music background is cut from Pergamano using Spellbinders™ Labels Seventeen.   Over the edge of cut label I hung the flourish element from Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents.   Last I stamped the Christmas tree and overstamped it with a sentiment on Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Eight.  Then I added bling and a bow to finish up.

Here are the basics of the Hop:  The Hop will run 8:00am Oct. 1 to 8:00pm EDT Oct. 2.   Winners will be announced Oct 3.   There will be SIX prizes of your choice of one set!!!  Hop to each link and leave a comment, then return to tell us you completed the hop, and answer the question on the ODBD blog. Check back on the ODBD Blog on Oct. 3 to see if YOU are one of the winners!

NEWS FLASH!!! Our Daily Bread designs has a brand new website, and it opens today! You’re going to love how pretty it is, and how easy it is to maneuver! So have a look, and don’t forget to bookmark the new web store so you go to the right place to order or for inspiration!

Now I will send you on your way…. your next stop is my sweet friend Grace who always has something totally stunning up her sleeve!!

I really like the idea of stamping the sentiment on top of the Christmas tree and not above, below or to the side of it.

Hi there blog friends.  Can you believe that it’s almost October?  I spent most of the summer inside distracted by projects, I am looking forward to fall with great anticipation.  It’s one of my favorite times and I’m personally looking forward to cooler temperatures and hopefully it means drier weather.  Hot chocolate and spiced cider . . . turning leaves and a nip in the air . . . pumpkin bread and my favorite sweater . . . well I know these things are still weeks off but a girl can dream, right?  I’m sharing a couple of cards today and you will no doubt see that I was in that fall mood with the earthy, rustic colors.  The first card I’m sharing features a fantastic lace border from JustRite Papercrafts from the Lace Medallion Labels set.  It was an easy addition to my card because the edges are quickly and neatly cut using Spellbinders™ Classic Edges One.  And, the flower that I declared my recent favorite (Spellbinders™ Jewel Flowers and Flourishes) well, I played around with that a bit more along with leaves from Spellbinders™ Foliage and very quickly came up with a cluster for the side of my card.

After my card was done, I tucked in a panel cut with Spellbinders™ Labels Seventeen and stamped my sentiment on Spellbinders™ Decorative Labels Eight.

SUPPLIES I USED
StampsJustRite Papercrafts – Lace Medallion Labels
Paper: Simple Stories, The Paper Studio, DCWV
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink, Pine Needles Distress Ink
Accessories:
Spellbinders™ Classic Edges One. Spellbinders™ Jewel Flowers and Flourishes,  Spellbinders™ Foliage, Spellbinders™ Labels Seventeen,  Spellbinders™ Decorative Labels Eight, seam binding, Recollections Pearls, ivory embossing powder, Maya Roads corsage pins, Darice Pearls,

You all will find this hard to believe – because it ‘never’ happens — I was in the mood for an A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″ card) – another masculine one.  I guess the fall colors led me down that path, but it was breath of fresh air to make a small card.  I’m using the sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs – Scripture Series 3.  On my card base and decorative panel I layered Spellbinders™ Floral Oval then popped my sentiment up on Spellbinders™ Classic Ovals SM.  The sweet little flower is from Spellbinders™ Jewel Flowers and Flourishes) — I stacked up two layers of the flower using foam tape and offset the layers for a cute little embellishment.

It took everything I had not to put a bow on this card . . . just sayin’.

You are so funny! Resisting the pull of the bow. I love that kind of humor. But, I know EXACTLY what you mean…leaving off something that has become ones “trademark” so to speak. The flowers using the background paper is so right on and beautiful. Well, I love the “nip” in the air, too. And the favorite sweater all tucked in my warm home. Enough with the sandals I am loving the socks today! LOL.ReplyCancel

  • Karen M RothSeptember 30, 2012 - 4:06 pm

Lovely cards as always! I love the lacy scallops and the flowers.

I still put bows on my “male” cards and the guys love them :O). I just make sure to use a thin 1/8 inch ribbon and glue it around the squares or rectangle shapes I am using.

I have found that most people struggle with making “male” cards as they are so used to making cards for women. But when you live with mostly males then you struggle with making “female” cards, lol. Does anybody else find that to be true?

Anyhoo, you deserve to take a stroll outdoors and just maybe it will give you some new inspiration, hun {{{hugz}}} And who could not do with some new inspiration these days? :O)

Where I live changing leaves are sparse as we mostly only have evergreens. But still it takes on its own beauty in the winter. Flying over top in a plane you would think a child had been playing with the salt and pepper as the mountains truly look like a mound of salt with pepper flakes (the evergreen trees) on it. It is very breathtaking to fly over in January-February.

I pray that you will have a marvelous week ahead {{{hugz}}}ReplyCancel

Sweet blog friends.  I hope wherever you are the weather is a glorious as what I have :-)   First of all, thanks for your prayers; my sister came through her surgery just fine and I even had a great conversation with her today.  Even though I’m sure she was worried with what she faced, on Thursday as she was preparing for surgery the UPS man delivered a gift to me from her.  Wow, hunh?   I’m still beaming from ear to ear.  Any ways, I have a couple of cards to share – these were actually started earlier in the month but I didn’t have a chance to post them.  The first one features one of the sentiments from a new stamp set in the October Amazing Paper Graces Kit.  I have to admit that when I set down to create the stamp set, I tried to dream of things I would want to stamp for a long time and could use for a variety of occasions.  I do love this sentiment.  Once it was out and I started to think of what I could use it with, I can’t think of a more perfect background than the Lace Background Stamp  by JustRite Papercrafts that I embossed in ivory and Spellbinders™ Floral Oval — these are both things that I think, exude femininity and elegance.  I reached in my die template stash for Spellbinders™ Grand Labels Four to make the shaped card.

To finish, I centered the sentiment on Spellbinders™ Classic Ovals LG so that the beauty of the embossed lace could peek through.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: October Amazing Paper Graces Kit – It’s Sew Vintage, JustRite Papercrafts – Lace Background Stamp
Paper: The Paper Company – Cream White, Simple Stories – Typewriter, Pergamano Vellum
Ink: Amuse French Roast, Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Floral Oval,  Spellbinders™ Grand Labels Four , Spellbinders™ Classic Ovals LGseam binding,  Recollections Pearls, lace, flower, ivory embossing powder, gold button

For my next card I stacked two die templates that I wouldn’t normally thing would work, but I stand surprised.  Kind of like polka dots and plaids – you have to try it together and see the result before you decide.  So for the bottom layer I used Spellbinders™ Vintage Lace Motifs then I added a defining circle in both cream and black using Spellbinders™ Standard Circles LG.  For the top layer I’m using Spellbinders™ Venetian Motifs.  I like the contrast between the lacy rounded edges and the peaks.  I’m using a sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs called Keep Climbing.

What a powerful message!  Cream and black are one of my favorite combinations.  I added a couple of pearls to make it elegant but I would send this to a man.  In either event – this goes into my encouragement card stash and I need to get busy to add a couple more :-)

SUPPLIES I USED
StampsOur Daily Bread Designs – Keep Climbing
Paper: My Minds Eye, The Paper Company – Cream White, The Paper Company – Black
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Vintage Lace Motifs, Spellbinders™ Standard Circles LG, Spellbinders™ Venetian Motifs, satin ribbonRecollections Pearls

Hoping you are taking advantage of a beautiful day.  I’ll see you soon!

I was so excited to see the first card! I took advantage of the 20% off going on right now from JustRite and ordered the CLING lace background stamp. It arrived Friday. When the October kit arrives in a few days I will have all ALL the Spellbinders & JustRite dies & stamps to try and duplicate your beautiful design. I keep a list of the locations of all the designs you and your fellow designers show us for each kit. I look forward to sharing them with the other residentss of the senior home I plan on moving to. The Home has several rooms for crafts including a sewing room with donated faabrics and batting as well as a rom for stamps, dies and inks/colors in many forms. They even have a kilm and hundreds of casts donated by a formerr reident. I’ve already donated dozens of boxes of tools and supplies to the room for use by all. They even have a program to share the wealth with other senior homes. My craft books and magazines have filled their available space and some of the items are rotated to the other senior programs. I look forward to sharing your kits and designs with them when I move in to the Home. You are such a blessing to so many.ReplyCancel
